Hasn't happened officially yet, the government is still yet to approve.

People at BC Rail aren't to happy about it, lots of negative thoughts going around about CN. [}:)][}:)][}:)]

  • It's too soon to tell.
I don't think there will be any major mergers anytime soon.

  • A CN-BNSF-KCS merger would make a lot of sense. An expanded container terminal in Halifax could provide direct service Halifax-Los Angeles saving at least three days over container ships routed through New Jersey terminals. The Halifax terminal at present is one of the most cost efficient and fastest from ship to rail transfer in North America. Never mind that that combination would be able to serve Mexico directly as well. The combination could also provide a better land bridge than Halifax-Vancouver like Halifax Seattle or Tacoma. Vancouver is always a congested port with many ships waiting to enter. The container terminals in both Seattle and Tacoma operate at less than capacity and both are easily expandable. These three roads as merger partners would certainly change a great deal of overseas container business choice of ports. Halifax would literally save days from Jersey ports to and from Europe. Time will tell but that trio makes the most sense for a true super railroad something only dreamed of at the present. The Santa Fe main will be completely double tracked in a couple of more years and capacity can expand more at that time. remember double stacks can also operate over the the other BNSF lines as well and if necessary they can always utilize Montana Rail Link for excess capacity to the Nothwest. The KCS part would provide direct service from Mexico to the Pacific Northwest a long sought traffic corridor that only needs developing.

  • We are ALL on crack. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Any merger involving any of the Big Six will not be approved by the STB in anything resembling the near future. And Canada is more anti-rail merger than the US is. Wead my wips: "No new moojooz."

  • I think NS and BNSF. I am starting to see a lot of BNSF power on the NS.

  • I think none. We in the US suddenly woke up and found that we had six railroads left, a republican-democrat battle in the west, with no viable third party for balance, and in the east a similar situation.

So I think none, until the former Milwaukee Road is rebuilt to the west and it rises from the CP ashes and returns as a viable granger road. But now I'm getting into "Why I MODEL railroad" discussion.

  • Id rather see no more mergers because of what happend to the UP/SP takeover.......
That was a serious nightmare. If the stupid STB is smart enough the next merger would be NO!

  • I was recently in New Haven Indiana and 8 of the 11 trains I saw all had at least 2 BNSF locos on NS track. I GARRUNTEE that Norfolk Southern and BNSF are going to merge unless CN takes one of em first. And I know that CN will take a US class 1.
