I would think BNSF and NS would likely be approved. What do you think?[?]
I forgot about our neighbor line up North. The poll has been revised.
All the Way!

My money's on CN + BNSF + KCS. Probably not all at once. IC already sniffed at KCS before the CN + IC merger, and KCS' access to Mexico still makes it attractive. CN + BNSF - stopped by the STB moratorium on mergers of Class 1 railroads - is probably still a good fit, too. It'd create a railroad with two transcontinental routes, but to different markets.
Picture it! Direct container service from Halifax to San Francisco and Manzanillo! [8D]
B-Dubya -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside every GE is an Alco trying to get out...apparently, through the exhaust stack!

Think that no one is ready to swallow another or perhaps would need to be broken up after merger.
CSX and UP
CSX and BNSF
NS and UP
NS and BNSF
All sound pretty scary.
edited cause CN is not Conrail, and part of Conrail became CSX.
I don't want to see any more mergers in a while, my vote for a strong partner is NS.
I think that is who controls the line through my town to Streator from the Steelmill at Hennepin. (formerly LTV mill)

I am sick and tired of all these mergers, I am sure the STB is sick too. I not an expert about the business sense of what a merger does for better service but how about preventing monopolies. Didn't they make Microsoft split up, or something, to prevent a monopoly?
