Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 25: February 21, 2005

  • Hard choice, both photos were very good. However, a red SOO front wins me over.
  • I like the dramatic shot of that old SOO unit poking out of the dark, but I have to go with #2. Reason?

Uncle Pete's muscle adorned with Old Glory.
  • I like BOTH, but Photo #2 comes off better in my eyes.

Plus, it's always tough to beat UP Power!
By the way guys, When you ugoing to upgrade to the NEW Canon Digital Rebel XS?
8 Megapixels, shown at PMA This week!

  • I like photo 2 because I like snow. I am in calgary, and I am wearing sandals right now and all the time! I chase trains all the time in my sandals. Some colours go even better in snow than yellow, though, such as CP/SOO Candy Apple Red, and B&M blue.

  • Both photos are great, the string of UP locos is really nice in WI snow. The shadowed light of the Soo is rare and tasteful. This time I went for the lighted spaces.
"There is nothing in life that compares with running a locomotive at 80-plus mph with the windows open, the traction motors screaming, the air horns fighting the rush of incoming air to make any sound at all, automobiles on adjacent highways trying and failing to catch up with you, and the unmistakable presence of raw power. You ride with fear in the pit of your stomach knowing you do not really have control of this beast." - D.C. Battle [Trains 10/2002 issue, p74.]
  • Photo #1 gets my vote. First the lighting is more dramatic, second I like the compression of the loco and the stacks behind it, and third I am not a fan of the UP! And why DID the UP need six/seven locos on that train?
  • #1 hands down. Any attempt to change the way we view trains is fresh.

  • The lighting effects on Photo 1 are by far the more intersting, and captivates your attention right away; whereas, other than raw horsepower exhibited in photo #2 there is nothing there to grab your attention photographically speaking.
  • I LOOKED AT PICUTE 1 I LIKE PICUTE 1.
  • LOOK LIKE YOUR'S PICUTE 2 I LIKED THE BEST.
