Help finding a photograph print

  • The company that provides art work for our office put a large 36"x48" or larger framed train picture into my bosses office.   At one time I tracked down the name of the photograph and found several places where I could buy it.   Now that I no longer work there and am ready to make the purchase, I discover all my research on the picture was on a computer that died last year.   I just spent 3 hours search the web and am unable to re-find it.

It is a photograph not a painting.  There is a highway and a railroad running parallel through the picture.  They run back to front. left in the rear, right in the front.   There is a car 1950s ish on the road.   There is a steam locomotive on the rails.  I believe it is a Union Pacific Big Boy.   Is anyone out there familiar with this picture?

I know once the photographer's name is found it will be easy to locate a copy.

  • Can't you call your former boss and ask him to read off the name on the photograph?

Or, call the curator for your former company and ask him/her.  A curator will have a complete list of the artwork.

  • Can  you get back to the office to photograph it?  If so, crop it so that only the photo shows, and upload that image to www.tineye.com.   That site will search the net for it.

  • If you are reluctant to have any contact with your former firm, then by all means contact UP's public relations - customer service office.   Describe the photo as best as possible.  DO NOT DISCUSS WHERE YOU SAW THE PHOTOGRAPH OR WHY YOU DON'T NOW HAVE ACCESS!!   I am sure they will find it for you.

  • Try  Elliot Erwitt,  Steam Train Press, 1954. I think this is what you are looking for.  My daughter bought  this  one year for me  at a place in the local mall. This one is wired with working headlights for the car and a working light on the steam engine. Hangs in the train room, looks good when turned on.  Plastic frame on it says Electric Art Gallery

  • Try this link to the Elliot Erwitt picture.  It is one of his famous photos (which I why I did not try to cut and paste it into this post).
