I agree, where's the SD70. The exec paint job is plain, but super. And in the models, the SD70 made by Lionel or the SD70 made by Kato, both look as great as the original.

I'm just seeing your post for the 1st time now, because over the holidays my brother's surgery has occupied all my attention. About 7 months ago he suffered a disected aortal aneurysm. 1 in 10 survive. He was happy to be alive. And then so was I. And then for Christmas he got an experimental dacron aorta. Of the 10% who survive a ruptured aortal aneurysm, practically none recover to the point where they can endure the transplant of a synthetic "pipe." With this posting, my brother is THE ONLY person ANY of you will EVER hear of having fully recovered from such an ordeal.
SO! Even my very serious postings will NEVER be too serious. My enjoyment of ferroequinology will ALWAYS be worry-free. And if I've answered more than 3 "Favorite Locomotive" polls already, I'm going to have some fun with the 4th & 5th etc. I should never have needed a family emergency to get to this point, and neither should you. So likewise, if YOU have nothing worthwhile to contribute, which may be more frequent than you realize, I encourage you to go ahead and contribute anyway. I PROMISE I'll enjoy everything you say. I have so far.
This is my favorite site. I'm determined to enjoy it with you. And I am NOT, repeat, NOT sticking my tongue out and making raspberry noises at you from the comfort of my own living room.

Well, I don't see MY favorite on the list - so I'm an "other."

The Pennsy GG1 every time. I particularly like the Tuscan paint job with gold stripes.
In my youth, those loco's powered many a train between NYC and points south that I rode to visit relatives and family friends. Love 'em.

I have two of those GG1's in my display cases - one heading up a consist of PRR streamliners (all tuscan) and another "pulling" a long freight - that one is Brunswick green, of course!

Now, I have so many other favorites, that I have to agree with some comments before me - kind of hard to settle in on just one, especially when for people like me, many, many decades have passed - each with a favorite.

Love those PA's too - can't get enough of the EMD E-8's either. On and on it goes .....

I love all LOCOMOTIVE TYPES. To me it is like being a kid in a candy store. But If I have to pick one and only one, (I tried to select more then one on the poll which it did not let me do) I would have to pick steam locomotives. Decisions, decisions.

I agree it's hard to pick, though I love the modern locos:
GEVO and SD90MAC are my favs......love em in BNSF livery,
though its too bad BNSF doesnt have SD90's........

Loewy S1 6-4-4-6 or UP Big Boy

Probably GG-1

Hard choice(s)but I'm an alcophile soany 244 or 251 will do.If I must choose a favorite it would be the RS-18.Luckily several 18u's are still earning their keep and we have a few preserved ones as well. TB

Personally I love the GP7/GP9. Those old dudes were real workhorses and had that tough-as-nails look. Unfortunately I won't be running any on my Summer 2000 BNSF layout, although I did see a GP9 in brand new BNSF Heritage paint doing peddler duty in Carrolton, MO (working out of Kansas City) in 1999. It was a sight for sore eyes to see this old beauty, high nose intact, still pulling its weight and reminding us all of days gone by.

My all time favorite locomotive would have to be the EMD SD90MAC. SD90's are so big and powerful, i am in awe when ever i see one. My second favorite would have to be the F45, and then the SD45, because I saw them doing thier stuff in Montana this past summer, and they were impressive!
DD40's are also rediculously huge. I like them too.
Lets face it, there are so many awesome trains out there, I have trouble picking only one to be my favorite.
Any one else have this problem???

My favourite locomotive is an ALCo S1 switcher. This is because I am part of a group here in Great Britain restoring one to working order. It worked for 35 years in the Steel Company of Wales before retiring. It will take a while to restore, but it will be worth it.
