Well today I headed down to Horicon/Bryon Hill. I met up with Brent and caught a few trains.

The WSOR didn’t have much to offer, except E units 103 and 102. There was also a line of stored SD40-2s. I won’t post the pictures from Horicon.

Off to Bryon...

First up we have a pair of Dash 9s leading a manifest up the hill; trailing was CSX 569. A little over exposed, but this photo was kind of a grab shot.

Next up was a north bound manifest with CN 5708 leading. These pictures really didn't turn out that well.

Well a couple hours later Brent rolls in. Around 1:20 I started packing up to head back home, when we heard a horn off in the distance. The train was still a ways away, so we start discussing on how seeing an SD40-2 leading on the CN is pretty rare now days. As the train got closer we couldn't tell by the horn what locomotive was leading. It definitely wasn't a GEVO or M-2, and it wasn't a Dash 9 or SD75I. As the train came around the bend we realized it was a CN SD40-2W.

Wow, a SD40-2 leading an auto rack! Double stacks where about mid way in the train too! Too bad they weren’t crawling up the hill at notch 8...oh well, can't win it all!

After that train went by, I was getting ready to pack up again, when Brent came over and told me that another train was coming up the hill (Missed hearing it on the Scanner). We hung out for around a half an hour at a new location under the bridge. As they came up, we saw that it was another Dash 9. Oh well, I kind of like this picture! Although I screwed up on the cropping!

That was about it for the day. I would have liked to of stayed longer...but I wanted to get some prime-rib at Club 64 in Merrill! Hopefully Brent can finish the rest of this report with the trains he caught after I left.

A lot more neat shots posted lately, even if it has been quieter. Hopefully the quiet means everybody's out taking pictures!

I leave in the wee morning hours tomorrow for da U.P. of Michigan to shoot the LS&I for three days. There's supposedly a boat coming in tonight some time to the dock in Marquette, so we should have ore traffic running. Now we just need sun and maybe some luck on catching an E&LS train...

I've been published - three times! The first letter was published couple weeks ago, and I got the second two publications with my article in them on Wednesday.

- First, I wrote a letter to the Massachusetts Lt. Governor (who has spearheaded the MBTA Greenbush Line, the purchase of the MBTA Framingham/Worcester line from CSX, and several other rail projects) concerning a connector between Worcester and Ayer, MA that would connect the Framingham/Worcester and Fitchburg lines and provide an easy transfer. I also wrote to the Worcester Telegram about it, and they published a shortened version in the Sunday Telegram a couple weeks ago. Here it is on their website.

- Second, I have a photo and short article in the Fantrip section of the August 2009 TRAINS Magazine. Obviously I can't post that here, but many of you probably subscribe, so you can read it on Page 55. I'll be getting a check from them any day now.

- Third, my article on the Worcester & Clinton Street Railway Company (which ran through my hometown) has been published on the front page of the local newspaper! Next to an article about Beer Carts on golf courses no less, but the front page! I don't feel bad about posting a photo of it here... It's not like the rest of the information on the front page, any of you would buy otherwise!

Very nice trip report Jordan! I am going to type one up from yesterday. We ended up going back to Daveluyville, and got that shot in the summer. I was a really LONG day, we were out for 17 hours, and I was up for 19 hours. Not too bad! Sometimes I don't know what makes it all so tiring!

Tyler, congrats on all the articles! I read them both and I will check out the article in Trains next week when I stop at the LHS. Congrats!

WOOHOO! Thanks, Brent! Those arent a dime a dozen either. One finds its way into Altoona about 5 or 6 times a year. So that's a nice catch! (They're SWARMING in The twin ports though!  I shot as many as I could but they were EVERYWHERE!)

Well i finnaly got my saturday pics edited

 

First starts out in Neenah, i had to drop my mom off to meet my dad at work since they were going out looking at cars.

I find the 523 waiting to elave but they cant cuz Foreman Mahon is using the track.

well after the RTC gets ahold of Mr Mahon for the past 45 minuetes, he finnaly answers. & boy the RTC wasnt happy, he gave him time at 8:30 & he had 2 1/2 hours to do work, rtc goes ok i ask you release your track n time now.

i go to lake st to get them.

well nothings happening here so i head south.

well i was wandering around fondy & i missed the coal train head north. then the 451 pops out

this was also in the yard

that was it nothing else came until i get back closer to NL, i heard the fred go off & i figured to see what it was, wel lthe scanner battery dies. but i could tell it was the train from wausau( or at leats its block), i took this in the park where i had problems in the past with CN crew members. this shot i had it zoomed in all the way & i also zoomed & cropped in my editing software.

 

it was going to meet a NB but i didnt stay long cuz i had a party to go to.

 Well, last week's report is finally ready:

 

As usual, things are ready to go on Wednesday. However, due to certain reasons, I ended up having business to attend to in Superior on Thursday as well, making it a two day affair, and a good two days it was. 

First up, found this UP coal train heading toward the coal dock. Don't see these guys every day. The trailing unit is an AC44CW, while the leader is an AC44CWCTE

 

 

From there, it was pretty quiet the rest of the day. Thursday was a bit more active. Starting off, I spotted an ore train reading to head down Proctor Hill to the docks. 403 was leading, which meant I was taking video. Before I left for Spirit Mountain, I snapped this quick shot of 403, B&LE 903, and one of the ore cars.

Over in Superior, things were a bit slow, with construction STILL going on in Saunders, leaving me no chance of shooting anything there. However, the BNSF side of things kept me rather busy. First, I spied this SD70ACE waiting with a coal load.

 

Next, the crane was out and about, and sported a BN caboose.

 

 

Last, but not least, a CEFX AC44CW assists with a taconite empty pull.

Well i finnaly got my pics up. Yesterday Boredom struck me, well where should i go, theres alot of places to go i thought maybe to michigan, or illinois. or maybe the dells milwaukee came in my mind. well i did chose milwaukee but changed my mind once i got down the rd. so i decided to do a big loop. i went to wega, nothing, neenah, something, went to berlin to go to my freinds house, got to run a train up byron hill on trainz, then went back to wega.

Heres where things began in Neenah, terrible shots i took while driving.

few hours later in wega, i was actually intended to go  straight home until i noticed the signal was flashing red then turned yellow, so i drive up to reek & its green, & the SB came. SD60F anrt common to lead around here these days.

Anyone know what this is?

If I had to guess, I would say it looks similar to something I saw not too long ago, and a fellow railfan said it was a Balast Cleaner. But it doesn't look exactly the same though, so I don't know...

I haven't gone railfanning for a while, but on Monday I hope to make it out to Worcester at noon to catch the Lake Shore Limited with two private cars on the rear...

I have to go up north with my dad on either Sunday or Monday, but then I'm coming back down on Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully I'll take the train back down. I'd start at Dover or points west, ride to Hoboken, probably do a little railfanning there, and then grab a 2300 series train down to Bay Head.

Well I figured out if you want good power consistantly in Illinois, Ottawa is the place! Illinois Railway runs three jobs within a short time of each other on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and two jobs Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They don't run on weekends though. I went down there today since it was one of the busy days.
