BNSF & DMIR 4Ever After some time, the drought is over!! As I was returning home, I happened upon a westbound coal train. I quickly whipped a U-turn, and headed to the best available spot. I got there a few minutes early, so I had plenty of time to get prepared. The pics aren't too great, but that's because I capped them from the video I took. First off, BNSF ES44AC 5954 leads the train around a corner Next, a close up of 5954 BNSF ES44AC 6029 is stuck in the middle Next up, the gem of the bunch. BNSF SD70MAC 8987 is trailing. This is the first 70MAC that I've seen in H3 paint, and I'm led to it's believe one of the few(if not the only one) around.

I went out today in hopes of catching maroon, and I SUCCEEDED! Well if not for the sun.
Drove up to Proctor, couldnt had any better luck, DMIR #210 leading CN (DMIR) #401 and B&LE #909. Great consist! Drove down to 40th Ave to catch them in full dynos. Light did not cooperate.

They pulled the limestone down then went to run-around their train:

The #210 actually has pretty decent paint:

Since the #909 is a great looking unit also, went down by the docks to try my first shots at this location ever, as they slowly pulled the train own from the run-around track:

Tried a little artsy shot, not sure if I failed or not:

There may have been other units, but this is all I saw:

There was also a nice GeeP in Superior:

So there are a few pictures of my trip today, un-edited mostly, and I can only upload two a day so im qued for the whole week

Any comments welcomed.
not to mention we almost got shot at the DQ on this trip....
It's all over... CN took control of the EJ&E at 11:59 last night. Not too much to say other then that... I knew I would be saddened when I found out it was officially CN property, and the mood is just like that today...
Well I went out for JSW1 and it had two CN GP40-2Ws on it, JUST KIDDING! It had 657 and 660 on the point. I guess you can consider two SD38-2s a excellent consist for CN .
I caught it in Plainfield, Shorewood and Minooka on the Illinois River Line. I'll have vids and pics of this train uploaded soon.
Nice pics, Coborn. Hopefully I can have the same luck when I make it up there later this week sometime(or next).
Since many people have their favorite railway's logo on their avatar, I figured I would do the same and put a J-ball logo, I like how it looks! I'll try getting a better photo of a J-ball logo and put it on there to get a even better looking logo.
I got some photos to post, so here they are.
First, on EJ&E's last day, the EB Line Train heads through New Lenox. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474872 I got many other photos including the J-ball logo in my avatar but I'll just leave it at that for right now.
Now some switching action, SW1200 302 works the yard, these will probably among the first to be shipped off to the deadline at Homewood. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474909
Now onto the day after, EJ&E 657 leads JSW1 through Plainfield. Here are twol photos of it in Plainfield. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474915
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474916
Here it is passing through a random wooded area near Shorewood, it was doing a pretty good speed, at least for the IRL, maybe 25 MPH or so. I kinda like this shot and I may have to go back and get it again. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474918
Here it is going through Minooka in perfect lighting conditions, nothing like bring orange EJ&E contrasting against snow in perfect light. Here are three photos of it there. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474919
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1474921

Shorewood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q91lHUTTPXY&feature=channel_page

Minooka again, pulling into the chemical plant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGgyQCib1qM&feature=channel_page
R.I.P EJ&E: 1887-2009: The end of a era in Joliet.
Well i just got done editing my pics from the weekend. i took a trip to milwaukee to visit my grandma so i got some shots in a few places.
Started out in Fond du lac where i decided to see what CN was doing at the yard & it was actually busy for once
Some NB setting out some cars
for some reason i like shooting trailing units partially since this had IC markings plus i been documented on paper all engines i shot.
2 WC switchers work
i call this one big smoke
later that day
i wound up on Milwaukee's north side by fonda siding where UP sides the sheboygan coal trains so i snapped a pic, no one was up there shoulda seen if the door was unlocked.
sunday i wanted to watch so i head to where the CP & CN meet as i pull in a CN NB goes by so i speed to weyer rd
to my suprise
well things were slow until CN 336 comes
then CP decides to send 2 EB by
SOO SD60
the Next
CP had more comming but they let the CN go by which never happens
then the CP 282 ( DME Train) comes they had to stop cuz they were gonna wait for the Amtrak & counterpart 281 but the amtrak was late so they let them go to harwood ave in tosa .
the 281 comes
Amtrash
NB CN my last train of the day since i had to get goin, i actually ended up chasing these guys down at lomira along hwy 41
well it happens i missed another NB since i was goin down the rd once goes by i got stumped when we heard the 94 detector go off & we didnt get the Direction. nice days to watch though. duplainville had alot of ppl there too.
Brent, first NO YOU SHOULD NOT have checked if the door was open. Not only is it trespassing its a good way to get your *** kicked.
Second, myself and Kale saw that same train with GE and SD60 on Saturday.

Yeah, let's not give railfans a bad name... We already have one because of the Chatsworth wreck (engineer was apparently texting railfans a few minutes before the crash) and that incident in Chicago with the 18 year old being allowed to operate the train...
I went railfanning last night and caught some MBTA action at night in Boston! Videos will be up soon, but my camera card reader is broken, so no photos for now...
All right, here are the videos!
This one was taken before night, although the video washed out all the color in the beautiful sunset and sky!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObpWU5mrw2w
This was taken after dark, with the lights of the city and the Leonard P. Zakim Bridge in the background. The first clip is the Red Line (Bombardier subway cars) crossing the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River, and the others are of the Green Line (Kinki-Sharyo and Breda light rail vehicles) crossing the Charles River Dam Viaduct. All of these clips were taken from the top floor of the Boston Museum of Science parking garage around 9:45 PM last night.
Sorry about the occasional shake; I was without a tripod, and trying to manually focus (my camera's automatic focus fails at night), zoom, pan, and try to compose the scene while keeping the camera steady is not easy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5rzknYlCLE
Enjoy!
I rebooted the computer and now the card reader works fine...After finding out that the little point-and-shoot camera can't shoot with a fast enough shutter speed to capture the train without blur, I used it to my advantage... This first one is a pan shot. And on this one I attempted to capture the speed of the train...
I went out on the EJ&E today. No trains came but I noticed something at each crosssing. Every crossing in this area has two blue signs up, each saying "Caution: Increased train traffic".
a double edged sword i suppose....more trains with CN but the lack of the EJ&E
Yeah, I care more about quality, not quantity. CN runs the same junk as BNSF and UP, just in a different color. I just heard a CN hi-railer call in on my scanner not too long ago... Times are already changing after just two days. Heck, there's a SW1001 switching Joliet, that is something I plan on seeing as the J assigned those to Gary. This is probably due to USS keeping all but 4 of the SW1200s.
