I was thinking the other day, Alaska and every other state has railroads I know, but does Hawaii? Thanks Mike
Indeed, on Oahu the Hawai'ian Railroad Museum runs a tourist train from Ewa to Kane Point. They have a very nice operation, and have quite a few locos and cars that they are restoring. The people there are about as friendly to talk with as any I've met, and will give you a tour for the asking.
I believe there is also a tourist line on the Big Island, I've seen the adds for it, but have not seen it in person.
It'a a real shame more of the sugar cane and pineapple railroads weren't saved, they were very unique to American RRing. I have a couple of books at home about these railroads during WWII, with photos taken by a sailor stationed at Pearl, if you are interested, I will get the name and author, you can order them from the museum and help preservation efforts on the island!
Let me know if you want more information.

Called Trestles, Tunnels and Tsunamis: The Story of the Hawai'i Consolidated Railway, it is 23 minutes long, and includes striking footage of the old railway. The video can be purchased by sending $25.00 to the Laupahoehoe Train Museum, P.O. Box 358, Laupahoehoe, HI 96764.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
I don't have a leg to stand on.
