Some photos of the crash in the main yard just east of the Carol Ave Station Oct 13, 07 morning.
Photo taken from the Roeske Ave overpass looking West. Car on left is on the little used stub siding. Car on the right is on the main from South Bend normally 4 cars. Car was the lead car.
Car closest to me (on main) on right was the second car of inbound train. -- photo above--
Now I am in the Carol Ave parking lot looking East. The word out, is that the car on right pulled out of the siding and into the incoming (West Bound) pulling into the Carol Ave station.
--photo above--
Most of the damage was on the left car, on the main.
Photos taken from station pad looking East
As soon as they began to move the cars. I (everone) was asked to leave the properity. I walk down to Carol Ave sidewalk and took this one. Actual removal of cars took 2 hours with about 4 hours of evaluation.
Car on left the front truck was off the track and move the with of the track. Car on right stayed on rails.
Left car was set back on rails and pulled back into yard by Diesel engine.
First they used the crane to slightly lift the left car and it was pulled back about two feet by diesel. Then they put the car on the rails held in place by diesel.
NO I know both of those Motormen were discharged.
There were no injuries in this accident (or as last reports).
The Gaunlet track was removed after that accident.
The South Shore has not released any official information Yet as far as I seen in the News Dispatch (Michigan City newspaper)
