Yeah the travel time is a big factory in me chosing clubs.  If it's over a 1/2hr. it's almost not worth it.

Speaking of Skoo kill, back in the late 50's I use to work for the Federal Electric Corporation in Paramus NJ. FEC had the contract to maintain the DEW line. ( Distant Early Warning - The eyes and ears of NORAD.) The guys manning the radar stations up in Alaska and Canada use to pronounce it Paramoose.

I lived in Lumberton about 4 yrs ago.  I use to belong to the MRR club in Cinnaminson,  BCMRRC.  I really miss that club.

I won't hold the politician thing against you.  I think the MRR thig overrides any other paradigm.

How's Satler's? Is Bruce still chugging along there?

Also, one big thanks.  I found your website about 2yrs ago.  Once I started the layout with my Dad we used your idea for the cork road bed cutting chig.  I love that thing.  In fact you can see it on the post about the layout HERE.  It's about half way down the page.  One 12' roll of cork was enough for the whole layout, and a little extra for pads under buildings.  Thanks again.

Cool that you were able to use my roadbed factory idea! I notice your dad improved upon it with the spacer block for setting the width - even cooler! I just use a tri-square with the scale set to the right width off the 90-degree edge.

I lived in CLifton and Little Falls. Then retired to Polk City Fl. I do O Scale passenger stuff, PRR Erie, and Jersey Central, all steam heavy weight era. There is not too much space for O Scale in a non basement home but a spare bed room allows enough running space to let me watch my Erie Linited roll around a loop. Traction interests share the space.

I'm in Pompton Lakes, but I don't have a layout anymore due to a recent move to a new Condo that has NO space for a layout nor do I belong to a club. There is a club local to me called Garden State Model Railway in North Haledon. They put on a nice open house every year.

That they do!  We have a few clubs that put on yearly open houses.  Too bad you can't find a little spare room for your own layout but I have been there too.

    Living in Northwest NJ, just outside of Newton and down the road from RMC. There are model railroaders here, some of whom you have seen in print, but more of the hidden variety. The Sussex county model railroad club runs a couple of shows a year on Route 23, Franklin NJ, and they have a modular set up for that show. Though I am not a member I do attend the shows and even one of the meetings. A fine group of guys.

    I am modeling the DL&W and some Erie with other local roads. Benchwork about 2/3 done and a very little scenery. I got into DCC by NCE and have spent time converting to the dcc scene. I would be interested in conversing with or possibly meeting with others of a like mind. Joe

Does anyone know if there is still a club in Lakewood. I heard our great state was giving them tax troubles even though they are not for profit. Any info on this club let us know.

BINGO!  You're the winner.  I took that picture 2 yrs ago when I went there with my Dad and Daughter.  I got a few shots of "old rivet sides" #4800, but she was all painted black.

Born, raised, and still living in Trenton.

Couldn't get interested in any of the 'local' railroads for modeling as my main prototype, so's I model what's in my sig lines. I would like to give the BR&W a shot - it's small enough that somone in N with a decent basement could model it full size. Unfortunately, I've only ever seen one model lettered for them, and that was a CF7 (which they did have many years ago).

There's 2 local clubs - one in Kuser Farm Mansion (I think it's the Jersey Valley Modelers, but don't quote me on that). And the other is the Pacific Southern in Rocky Hill. They haven't had an open house in years due to changing over to DCC. I can't get into the club scene as I tend to find them a little too cliquish for my tastes.

I live in Teaneck in the north east corner of the state. I have been a modeller for a long time. I started out in Marklin but have switched over to American outline. I started work about a year ago on a new layout. Photos of this and previous layouts are on my web site. One of these days, I'll get around to writing about my new layout. My interests are in exploring computer control of trains using JMRI.

Hi folks

Jefferson Township in North "Jersey"

Run almost all the scales, HO, to N, back to HO, up to Garden, O gauge 3 rail for the last

10 years or so and now getting back into HO.  I model CNJ and PRR - 1940's - 1950's.

I will be rebuilding my 3 rail to sit lower to the floor and have the HO up above it.

The bench work for the HO will be at 48".  Depending on the track plan there may be another level as I need to look at staging yards.  I don't want a duck under so the layout will be a walkaround type - 9 x 16 feet.  The 3 rail will be about two feet off the floor.  White Christmas lights will be tacked under the HO frame to light the 3 Rail.  -  It will be Christmas all year around (as it has been for the last 4 years) for the 3 Rail stuff.  My wife loves the Dept 56 stuff and can't bear to see it taken down.  That suits me fine as I don't want to pack everything back up in their respective little boxes and put em away.  We have a great time at the holidays inviting the neighbors over - they all get to be little kids again running the trains.  I never did get into any control system for the 3 rail - kept it simple with the transformer to track power.

I live in Holmdel, New Jersey in Monmouth County. 

I have an HO layout which is "L" shaped 14'x16'. It has 4 passenger lines, one freight line, and one commuter line. It follows the Pennsylvania Railroad theme and it has a time stamp of 1967. 

It operates on DCC with steam, electric and diesel power. 

I have a freight yard and a locomotive yard with a 9-stall roundhouse. I model some of the Pennsy favorites like Horseshoe Curve, Gallitzin Tunnel, South Amboy Yard, local train stations, etc.

At present the layout is 3/4 complete. I only work on it during the Winter and do home gardening during the Summer months.

You could model the entire NY&LB with no selective compression (and still have room for the blimp).

 Hello all Jackson Twp. here, My uncle was an engineer on the Delaware & Hudson and the Erie Lackawanna. Used to get cab rides from home when we lived up north in the old RS3 when he was delivering to the family business, once went all the way down to Oak Island yard on a Sunday. I thought he taught god how to walk on water.

I model Appalachia late 1950's coal hauling and big steam,but interchange with the PRR and Jersey Central & the Reading and the Erie well who ever has a cool paint scheme or just catches my eye it usually winds up on the layout sooner or later. Speaking of Lakehurst I can see Hanger #1 from my deck and an HO model railroad in there would be the ultimate except when those C117's do their touch n goes I think they would knock everything off the tracks...........

The club in Lakewood was still around as of last fall we attended a sort of open house they were part of at the Ocean County Museum right behind the county court house. Seemed like a nice bunch of guys but then again aren't most model railroaders?

BTW we do have a few celebrity model railroaders here in NJ would be nice to hear from them on these forums once in a while.

I'm from North Jersey (I prefer not to specify...). I model a freelanced shortline in the area. I originally thought of doing a fictional line, but now I'm leaning on towards pretending the Lackawanna Cutoff was never abandoned (still not sure).

I'm going to begin on a new layout very soon, and it will feature my shortline and NJT.

I have been building a recreation of the legendary Frank Ellisons Delta Lines in my basement here in Hillsborough, NJ. Since 95% of the structures have been scratch built the layout is in its 8th year of construction. About 66% of the track has already been laid and we are making steady progress. We should have trains running on the first two loops by the end of January 2010 and completion should be by the end of 2010.  If my back holds up we will meet this goal.
