1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains? Yes. Quite a few people, as a matter of fact.

2. Do you own model trains? Yes.

3. Did any of your parents own model trains? Yes, though in my case, it would be "either of your parents" as I have only one of each. Dad had Lionel and American Flyer.

4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains? Yes.

5. What type of model train do you or your parents own? (Lionel, LGB, Atlas, etc.) Atlas, Athearn, BLI, Kato, Life-Like, Maerklin, Micro-Trains and there might be a Bachmann or two somewhere in there.

6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences? As a matter of fact, I do.

7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions? Z is up year-round, N is a modular show layout, HO is whenever I can run on a friend's layout.

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains? No.

9. What is your favorite make of model train? Hard to say: Atlas probably as that seems to be what I have the most of.

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents? Yes. Started with wooden Skaneateles with hook-and-eye couplers, then Dad's American Flyer, then graduated to HO.

3. No

4. No

5. N/A

6. yes

8. Seriously No, although I do have the occasional thought that I should sell the model railroad stuff, buy a really nice SLR camera, quality lenses, scanner, antenna, gas for a car, etc, and spend all my time railfanning all over the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minniesota, and Iowa instead....

9. Probably Athearn for the price, although Atlas stuff is pretty nice too

10. yes, they gave me my first train set for my Birthday when I was six, and I blame them for planting the bug....

Hope the helps!

Dear members, I am taking a survery for my high school economics class. If you will please take the time to answer this short survey, it would really help me out because I am severly limited in population because my school is very small. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains?

Yes, a large number of people.

2. Do you own model trains?

Yes.

3. Did any of your parents own model trains?

Yes, my father does.

4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains?

My father and I both still actively collect, although we both stopped for a while.

5. What type of model train do you or your parents own? (Lionel, LGB, Atlas, etc.)

Me: HO scale, with a little bit of N scale. Father: HO scale.

6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences?

Far more than any sane person should.

7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions?

No, it's a permanent layout.

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains?

I got completely out of the hobby for many years (from my late teens until my early thirties) but it came back with a vengeance. My father also got pretty much out of the hobby during the same time period, from his late forties until his early sixties. Although we don't actively model together anymore, we both got back into the hobby about the same time.

9. What is your favorite make of model train?

I don't have a favorite manufacturer, but small industrial locomotives, streetcars and interurbans interest me most.

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents?

Not directly: my father had an interest in model railroads, and I often participated in his model railroading by building structures, detailing locomotives, creating scenery, or visiting the hobby shop or a model train show or club layout. It was a father/son activity. In some ways, it still is.

Being a science fair judge, I would say that a survey here on a railroad forum is really going to skew the results.

1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains? Yes
2. Do you own model trains? Yes
3. Did any of your parents own model trains? Yes
4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains? Yes
5. What type of model train do you or your parents own? (Lionel, LGB, Atlas, etc.) All of the above, probably at least one of every brand that has ever been commonly sold in the USA - except Marklin.
6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences? Yes
7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions? No, but their are special events that get special set ups!
8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains? No
9. What is your favorite make of model train? Favorite in what sense?  W&R, even though I don't own any.  Or do you want the Brand I buy most - Atlas.
10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents? Yes
