Evening Gang: What is it about retirement that your kids don't understand? I had to get up early today to go pick up our son at the repair shop. Mary Ann and I got there and it was a good thing that they had the coffee pot going. We left there and did a stop at the post office and went to eat breakfast. Then dropped son at Wally World to meet his wife and get her car. We went in and picked up some stuff and I checked to for the April MR. No they didn't have it so we went home. When I got home I went back to bed and slept for an hour and a half.
Mary Ann had a doctors app at 3 so we went and waited for an hour and 15min. I don't mind waiting for him since he's very good and takes excelent care of her.
I'm still tired so I'll say good night.
OK. belly up to the bar and have at it. Just leave me something for the train show this weekend.
Good Evening, Chloe - Hi, Paul and PC - Paul, better be careful, or PC will get jealous of you, hitting the TOP so often...!
DerJohn - you've been quite busy, from the looks of your photos! The Range Light looks like it's off to a great start, too. On the weather, who knows what it could change to by the end of the week - our weather-guesser tonight was mentioning something about a possibility (didn't hear if it was later this week, or next week) of some snow! Oh, how was your show last weekend? It was last weekend, right?
PC, after you get that bowl of water for Colby, let me put some shaving cream on his hands and let's tickle his nose. Might be a while before he falls asleep in here again... Either that, or let's get a couple more of the guys and move Colby and that corner booth bench outside on the sidewalk before the late freight comes through and blows its whistle. (tee hee...)
Paul, you're about as busy as some guys I'd see back when I was working in Paint & Hardware at our Sears - they said their friends would ask 'em to make something for them "...since you're retired and have all that free time now..." Good thing you got time enough to go back home and catch a nap.
Hey, OzJim - where've you been hiding yourself?
'Bout time for me to head for home and get my nightly nap in. Had a very busy day at work - three crises and no lunchtime, almost didn't find a hospital bed for one person to be sent to... Told my supervisor she owes me a lunch.
Blessings (and a good night's rest) to all,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All,
Has it really been three days since I stopped in? 28F this morning with a high to be 56 or so. Got the trailer loaded for Sebring Sat, it left Sun and will be let into the track this morning. I don't go for two more weeks and then it'll be to Savannah.
Making progress catching up with the work load and the final preps for Savannah. Not much to report on the layout, a bit of trackwork and I've started the stone cutting building.
I hope all is well with the rest of you - good to see Jeff got through the wood sawing sessions with no drama this time.
Der - thanks for the updates - you've really made some nice progress again. CUL, J.R.
Morning, JR, Inch, Zoe. Goodness, but Jeff was up early today! He even beat Bill on getting into the Diner this morning. I'll have one of Bill's chocolate donuts and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks!
Good to see you in the shop again, JR. Sounds like it's still pretty cool in the mornings out your way, though. You have me curious about that stone cutting building - got any photos of that to post? Love to see 'em, once you do. I'm fed up with my so-called camera - better start saving up for a digital, I guess (and get a decent reliable one, too).
Haven't seen JP (among others) in lately - anyone know of his whereabouts?
Speaking of the Diner MIA's - DerJohn, did you see Fergie or Luc last weekend?
It's 46 (F) in Cape G. this morning, birds are chirping, and we're supposed to hit mid-70's this afternoon (again). Weather guy this morning said we might get some scattered showers today (but not much rain out of any). Better chance of rain tomorrow, he said.
Well, time for me to get ready for the W-thing. Hopefully today will be less hectic and I'll actually get to go to lunch today. Prayers for those with needs, and also for those who haven't been able to make it into the Diner in a while (that it will be because of a good reason and not some troubles).
Blessings,

Don't think I want to nap in here anymore with PC or JIM around.
COLBY, just remember I wasn't in on it with those two, Zoe is a wittness, DOWN DOGGY DOWN, yea good dog
all: It’s a sunny one here, and supposed to get up to 7 degree C this afternoon, which is better than the 2 degrees they were calling for in last night’s forecast.
Thanks for the kind comments on the progress. It’s great to see less of that blue foam! Painting the sawdust scenery is going to be an interesting task, as I want to keep the paint off the rock castings as much as possible, and yet use as runny a paint as convenient to get the job done reasonably quickly. Any tips or thoughts?
Adam:
Hey, Does anyone know about a good putty or a type of clay that I could use for around the small pond I'm making so that the banks slope gently into the "water"? Hopefully inexpensive since I can't spend much.
As for the grass, I’m into this sawdust/white glue mix for my ground cover. It ends up already textured and ready to paint, and cover with ground foams (Woodland Scenics is the brand available at our LHSs)
Foams because you need several different shades of green to make the grass look natural. I’m in Normal scale, so my grass is quite rough compared to the same technique carried out in Horribly Oversized.
CapeJim:
Oh, how was your show last weekend? It was last weekend, right?
In consequence, I haven’t seen Fergie or Luc. I’m due to meet a new HO modeler there as well, met him through the Dartmouth FreeCycle.
PC and CapeJIm:

Colby Zoe you should get some camerias in here
Good afternoon gents...what day is this, what time is it? Sorry I haven't been in the Diner much since last Friday, we have a 1 year old here for 10 days while mom and dad are on a belated Honeymoon in the Carribean. Where do they get all this energy!!! Room to room to room, nothing is either sacred or off limits for the curiosity of a 1 year old. I just managed to get him down for his afternoon nap, that should give me about 1 hour of freedom before all hell breaks loose again. Grammy is at Tuesday womens bowling league, so I have the duties alone until about 3:30. Man, I am exhausted, I think I would rather go cut grass!! He is a lot of fun if you can outlast him.
The temps has risen to 57F (14C) very nice day today and the snow is melting like crazy. We may get more snow here on Friday however, so I am not getting too excited yet.
A Note about Walmart: As you all have read at times, Walmart takes some flack over various subjects. I thought I would present a balanced opinion. We have a new Super Walmart opening in our town tomorrow. Three days ago, there was a bad house fire in our town and the family lost everything even their pet cat. Walmart heard about the fire, and the next day there was a rep there from Walmart, asking the owner to give him a list of all the things they needed for cloths, shoes, coats, etc. They have also donated $$$ to our fire dept for equipment to fight chemical and other hazardous type fires. You hear so much bad stuff about Walmart, I wanted to balance the books a little so that we all can form informed decisons about any company, in this case Walmart.
MIKE: I did manage to get outside for a while this morning and I cleaned out the exhaust pipe for the Pellet stove. It really didn't look that bad. Because Pellet stoves work on a different principle then woodburners, the exhaust gasses actually have to be forced out via the fan that is in the stove. So if there is any negative pressure inside the room, it could explain why we might smell the exhaust at times. Or maybe the exhaust fan is running too slow if the fire is low. I am still trying to figure this one out.
DER JOHN: You have really been making tracks on your layout, I figure we will see your layout shown in MRR magazine by the late Summer.
Have to run, grandson #2 just got home from school, #3 is due in 30 minutes, And I thought I was all done raising kids...silly boy !!!!
Later
Good afternoon - sounds like a hornet's nest got stirred up in here. Hey Fossil - I brought you a sirloin ; here ya go! Nice dog, good girl. Yeah, dogs like me... (so long as they don't think I'm tasty-looking)...
Hey Colby, I was just razzing you - I wouldn't do that until you got to about your third day in a row of napping, probably. I never actually have done any of that stuff that PC or I talked about - just heard about it. I was in a high school chemistry class once where one of the guys was snoring in class, so the teacher got a beaker, filled it in those sinks at the front of the room and walked over to the guy's chair (where he's ing) and poured a few ounces of water on his head. The guy did stay awake much better in that class after that, though! Besides, Colby, you know that too much sleep isn't good for you - your body doesn't get rid of as much carbon dioxide and all. I might remind you of someone else who started the idea of how to wake you up (sort of) (Hint, hint... P.C. might be his initials...)
Inch, you're fine and safe (and so is Duke), so long as you don't snore on us very long...
DerJohn, if you're using water-based paints on the scenery, there's an artist's masking fluid/liquid that might work fine for you (or maybe could you use rubber cement and rub it off?). Otherwise, possibly could use photographic masking tape (3M, blue color) and plastic sheets over the rocks (and seal the edges down snug with a dull-pointed tool). Any way you go, you'll still want to be careful in the painting. Sorry bout that on the weekend show - I got my dates mixed up on that one. As you said, still have that to look forward to.
Jerry, good to hear that you got a good loco, after your earlier disappointments. Do you have a 'system' for picking lottery numbers? Maybe I should have you pick for our work pool - whenever the Lotto gets up a ways, a lot of us kick in a buck each and buy a whole passel of tickets. Of course, I don't think we've ever won anything over a couple of bucks (which spread across everyone amounts to less than coffee tip change...).
I got in my latest eBay win today - D&RGW caboose, and a D&RGW boxcar.
Also got in a new Scenic Express catalog, which I will take more time with tonight in going through. They have one very well-done catalog (that is, makes me drool and lust after lots of things to buy...) Actually, some of you might check out their website for scenery and details stuff (no, I'm not employed by them or getting any commission - I wish!).
http://www.scenicexpress.com/
Well, I'd better head out now before Fossil finishes the last of that steak. Nice doggy, I'll bring you another one when I come back. (tippy-toeing out the door...)
Enjoy your afternoon - looks like we might be getting a little rain (or for sure, rain clouds) this afternoon.
Hello everybody. Well, we're still out of town with family and dealing with some bad news. However, I need a sanity break. Nothing like model railroading to get your mind off of bad stuff.
Took a little time of to visit a model train store yesterday, and planning to see a coulpe of model railroad friends here soon. Blessings to all.

Good afternoon folks!
Been busy around here lately!
I'll have a hot roast beef Po-Boy, or sub, or grinder as some of you know it by, and dressed with extra mayo too, and a tall root beer! Thanks Chloe! (Dressed means with lettuce, tomato, and pickles too)
One of Monique's cousin's mothers went in for surgery this morning and we are still waiting to hear the results. Prayers are requested for her successful surgery and recovery.
J.R. I like the swing bridge you did there and thanks for posting in my Swing Gate thread!
Philip, that trip sounds like a great time, and I am sure she will be happily surprised to know that the phone co. is paying too!
Luct, sorry to hear about Gloria, and hope she has a full recovery. Prayers are added for her on our list.
Hey, Jeff! We are going to have to get you an ax and a chainsaw soon too! Then you might be mistaken for a lumberjack too! Then you can cut some raw logs into lumber!
Welcome back cheese3, aka Adam!
Dick, did you get your SS check yet? I've been working so much lately you might be getting a SS bonus soon!
Inch, sounds like you are stocking up for the winter and it's almost over! LOL Thanks for the kind words about Monique, she is feeling better about the whole scare. Looks like the camera is making out again, great pics once again!
Paul, I got the original idea from the April MR issue and then drew up my own plans in 3rd PlanIt. You can read the whole process in my own tread in the Layouts section of the forum; also you can go to my own web site and see how I built the thing. How was the meet this past weekend?
Jim, speaking of Radio Shack, they are opening up a new one just a few miles from the house in Wake Forest. Now I won't have to drive all the way to Raleigh. Got my Scenic Express catalog in too! Good stuff!
Der John, scenery is really looking good there! How about a clinic on your technique?
Alex, have you tried Sculptamold?

I don't think I'm up for that! I have trouble making an 8 hour work day and seldom do. I'll stick with saws.

Oh I see how it is now! Hangin' me out to dry, huh?
It's all good!
Just was out and about today and caught some pics I thought I'd share.
This was in Alexandria, Indiana. (Click any pic to enlarge)
Later on, I passed through Lapel, Indiana.
Howdy howdy.
Thought that I would drop in and say Hello while I had the time.
Cleaning of the house continues, and we are making great progress. However, we are filling up the storage locker rather quickly...So hopefully we'll be able to move into a new house soon so that things can go directly to the house instead of storage.
Jim in CG: Haven't started sketching anything yet, but I've got ideas galore! I'm going to use my brother's bunk-bed, and build a layout on cabinet drawer runners, so that I can have a pull out layout that's underneath my bed. I can also make another removeable platform, and store it above the layout.
I'll see y'all later.

Evening Gang:
Ryan: The show went very well. The Clark garden folks were very happy and we are working on plans for next year with them.
Not much went on here today. John brought in his trailer and we got the locomotives un-loaded. Mary Ann wanted to get some paint for the kitchen and we had to pick up a sheet of 3/4in plywood to fill in the floor where the cook stove had been. The new stove gets delivered tomorrow.
I guess I'll have to get up early again tomorrow. The delievery is supposed to take place between 9am and 11am.
Good Night All
I'll be on my way to Alexandria today to get fitted for my new diabetic shoes. Finally I'll be able to get rid of some of these braces.

Our Historic Engines Need Help!
In 2004, the MNGRR's Steam Program fell under the jurisdiction of the Federal Railroad Administration. This means all four of our steam locomotives now have to go through a thorough inspection. FRA mandated upgrades must then be completed before a locomotive is allowed to run. At the start of 2004, the MNG used its available funds to put Monson Railroad engine #4 through the FRA process. To this day, number 4 is our only available locomotive.
The museum has since set aside funds to put Bridgton and Harrison engine #7 through the same process. Since #7 is much bigger than #4, the cost for rehabilitating engine 7 exceeds what the railroad can currently afford. We estimate it will cost between $25,000 and $30,000 to put #7 back on track. We will not start the restoration work until we have the sufficient funds to complete the project. We need your help!
A Maine native, #7 is a 1913 Baldwin built for the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad. Weighing in at 33.5 tons, #7 is a 2-4-4RT type locomotive that hauled passengers and freight in New England for nearly 100 years! After her career in Maine, in 1947, she went to the Edaville Railroad in South Carver Massachusetts as founder Ellis D. Atwood's first engine!
She made her return to Maine in 2002. She saw occasional service at the MNG in 2002 and 2003, but has not turned a wheel under steam since.
Please consider a tax-deductible donation to put this engine back into service!
Checks should be made out to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad. Most importantly, be sure to include a note indicating that the check is for the "Engine 7 Fund."
You can also click the donate link on the left, and during the payment process you may specify "Engine 7 Fund" in the memo field.
