Military Discounts, I know we have a few retired and active duty military members in the Coffee Shop so I wanted to pass this along: http://www.4militaryfamilies.com/militarydiscounts.htm lists all the stores that give a military discount.  You might be surprised to find how many vendors honor the military.  I get 19% off my phone, satellite TV, long distance, and cell phone every month (AT&T/Cingular).  Lowe's gives a 10% military discount everyday.  One of the owners of Auto Zone is a retired Coast Guard Quartermaster so they always give military a discount.  IHOP and several restaurants hook us up every day.  Home Depot only gives us the discount on Veteran holidays and generally it's rather limited.

My LHS gives me a 20% discount on any Walther's products.  Not sure if it's the LHS or Walther's that does this.

It's already like the old coffee shop. I already need to read about 4 pages to catch up!

Well, my evil plot has been stopped. The parental unit thinks that a 12 year old can't handle the PCM big boy. (What I wonder is why in the heck did she let me run my grandfather's brass trains that some are worth more than $5,000?)
Oh well.

This Tornado you installed do you have a link for more information you could share with the group? I wonder if it would work in my diesel?

Here's a link: http://www.tornadoair.com/ .  I know they work in diesels too.  It basically just creates a vortex in the incoming air flow so that you get better ionization of the air/fuel mixture which causes less waste in the combustion chamber.  The mixture burns more evenly and so you get improved performance.  This in turn causes the driver to puch down less on the loud pedal which improves fuel economy.  I've known several people who've had them and swear by them.  Haven't tried one myself though.  You can easily remove it from the vehical when you go to sell it to, so you can reinstall it in your new ride.

Greyfox,

Is this the topside creeper? You bend over a padded bar and allows you to work over top of an engine?  I've used this type of creeper at work and they would be great for reaching over a layout.  Very sturdy and easy on the back since you are supported at the waist and the chest.  I would look at your local auto supply store to compair prices.  We have had these at work for years and I think we paid $100 or $150 for the last one we bought.

Attaboy: I'm not worried about that. That's southeast Louisiana, I'm in west central, 18 miles from the texas line.

I saw robins in my front yard this morning, they're at least a month early!

Also made a modification to my car today that should help the gas milage some. I put a Tornado in the air inlet hose where it connects with the throttle body. It says on the box that I would notice a change in horse power. Boy, did I! Thare's an increase of at least 5 hp on the low end and a lot more torque.

Time for lunch! Today I'll have the lamb chops.

Thought I would stop in for lunch and check out the new digs.  Looking pretty good.  They even got rid of all the ladders and other...OUCH...well almost all the ladders.  Have to watch where I'm going.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the new folks, I won't name names since there seems to be more than one from the last pages of the CS I didn't see.  Which reminds me, going from CS to TD could take a little getting used to.

Good morning everyone, I see that some people were up early, others have not got out of bed yet. The new Diner really looks nice, and the new unifoms for the girls really are something else!!!!!!! No wonder Fergie is in here so early.....you little devil!!

The fog and rains have departed, the sky is clear and dark blue, temp is 38F, so I think I will take advantage of the weather and take down the outside lights and wreaths. I have done that job in bitter cold, snow covered, etc......no more making that mistake.

On the general forum, one of the guys had a thread asking if anyone had ever seen/used the creeper that MicroMark tools has. How about you guys and gals in the Diner, have you ever used one of these? It seems to me that anyone who want a full 4x8 layout against a wall, this would be a great tool to reach those areas beyond a 30" reach. Then you could have some bigger radii curves for longer cars and locos. Any comments guys? I know that it is a little pricey, but it is really very well made with nice adjustable features.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! The old Coffee Shop

http://www.trains.com/trccs/forums/196682/ShowPost.aspx

I'm still looking around for some of those #50 screenings.  I bought some latex grey paint yesterday to weather the cat litter, a little 50/50 paint/water for a wash coat and should be good to go.

White Rain, never had a problem with it except for the Life Like brand of ground cover, but I always thought that brand to be too "WOW IN YOUR FACE GREEN" anyway.  I use Elmer's wood glue for everything including bonding of foam sheets for mountains and hills.

Well I don't think my back-up of the old forum worked I'll get in there today to the back-up file and see what happened.

The rubbing alcohol breaks the tension of the glue, allowing it to sink into the ground foam.

If you don't use it, the scenery floats or gets a nice big glob of glue over it.

I hope to try the white rain today or tomorrow and see how it does, but I gotta get some bushes!

Hidey hidey ho!

Looks like the girls have been quite busy for the first week in the new place.

How's the coffee? How about a tall cup of Café au lait over here, Chloe!

Back in the saddle, and it feels good to be home again.

We had a good visit with the family and it was nice to see New Orleans making good progress on the recovery, though there is still much work to do in the heavily damaged areas.

Drove through rain on 3 of the 4 days on the trip, white knuckle driving at times too, especially at night.

We did get to enjoy much fresh seafood, shrimp, catfish, and oysters, yum!

Well i see i was buying last night hope you didn't hit my card to hard.

Inch, how true that joke really is. Wisconsin has a few musts to live here must like cheese, beer, brandy ( we drink the most in the USA) Packers, Deer hunting, and fishing for Muskie's! Doesn't have to be in that exact order. ( I like most but not the hunting, to many who like the beer and brandy, out in the woods with loaded guns and loaded mindsClown [:o)]

Could alot of work done on the layout this weekend, well watching the Packers and Wisconsin win.

Off today i have to take my girl for her driver's test today, right now i'm the only driver in our family, hopefully today that will change! Plan to work on putting in a new siding today, it'll be for a power plant than will be off the layout, just have the siding with a back drop of a power plant. Then after the cars are unloaded i will send them to my lime stone Quarry to be loaded, and the loaded cars will be send back to the car ferry for spots east and the steel mills there. Some will go to my large cement plant.

Morning All and speicial to you Jeff since you are buying. I'll have that breakfast that you laid on there. Thanks.

Not much going on yet it's still early. Oops, I'd better go and punch in.

I'll have to go down and try and work out some lighting problems at the Gold River ride before the park opens. It may be a little hard since I don't have replacement bulbs for the ones that are burned out. The worst part of doing the lighting is hauling the ladders around in the ride. The ideal situation is to have a person on each end so nothing gets damaged but that situation never happens. I just have to be real carefull and take my time. Anyway as Custer said at the Little Big Horn, " Charge".

Did you know that the indians called the Big Horn the Greasy Grass? Just a little trivia there.

You all have a good day and I'll stop in latter.

Good New Year’s Day evening one and all.  I’m waiting for a rock casting to set.  I need a sort of tower of rock to go beside a tunnel mouth.  Last time I tried this, I wrapped the mold around a foam core and held it in place.  Didn’t like the result too much, but it’s done. For this second tunnel situation  I‘ve cast the mold flat, and then bent it to shape later, clamping it and fixing a rubber band around the broader end until it’s solid.  BTW, the thin castings I made this afternoon I dried (once they were set and out of the molds) on trivets on the wood stove. Took no time, and they are ready for sawing, or sanding the backs and bases as necessary to fit.

Lynda: I’ve had a chance now to re-read your longer post from yesterday.  That Empire Builder story sounds like it’s going to be a terrific read.  Kris is a writer too, so I know a bit about the ebb and flow of that. Mainly she writes with our long time friend Patricia. It’s a very successful partnership, and they are genuinely co-writers, they don’t do a bit each and blend the work, they actually co-write. Pat types (or is “keyboard” now a verb?) because she’s quicker at it, but they write jointly.  Their first full length novel is due out this spring (Rendevous Press).

Pity the Normal Scale didn’t work out.  I used to be in Horibly Oversized, but converted to gain more RR space when we moved here.

Jarhead Breakfast Special? I’ll creep up on that one slowly, I think!

There's always next year.
…In the old Coffee Shop, that line was attributed to the Red Sox. (Ducks rapidly to avoid Ed’s hurled shoe)

Jeff:

My parents and I already celebrated New Years, at midnight, Atlantic time.
…I came downstairs just before 11:30 last night to see how things were going (had been working on the railroad), and the Halifax TV crowd were counting down for the benefit of the Newfoundland folks.

Soumodler and Lee:  Thanks for the gravel parking lot tips. You don’t find the rubbing alcohol (or the White Rain) messes up the white glue, curdling it?

Jerry:  Good to see you up and about. Yes, Garrison K. is a great entertainer, but low key, and you have to listen!!

Dick:

If anyone knows the URL of the old Coffee Shop, Der John is looking for it.
This needs some explanation, I feel.  Last night I found my way here from the CS.  However, I didn’t think to bookmark the page before I left.  So today, realizing that, I went to Trains.com (or  the MR Forums url, I forget which ) and was surprised that I had to log in, but did anyway.  The I navigated to the General Discussions (yes plural, which again struck me as odd). Once there, I found that it had only 2 pages of topics, despite saying that it had over 6000 replies, and over 550 topics.  Blanking out the Twilight Zone music, I looked for the Trackside Diner…not there.  I didn’t see the Coffee Shop either.

So then I wrote an email to MR, and am still waiting for a reply.  I also emailed you Dick.  Later, I found that I had the url for the Coffee Shop still bookmarked, went there, and navigated here from there. So thanks, but I now have Elliott’s Trackside Diner bookmarked as well, and can continue my usual practice of coming in the back door.

Trent:

I think a # 3600 Blue Goose would look just great
…funny you should mention a goose.  On my walk yesterday afternoon I saw a skein of about 37 Canada Geese flying west.  That’s more at one time than we saw all Fall, when they were supposed to be flying south.  I guess they heard there was a party on Sober Island!

Well: it’s bed time once more.  I’d better check on that casting before I go.(I did, and it's turned out really well, pics in due course)  Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

You would think if you were there for the bonus period not how long it took them to figure out who got how much you would still get it as the company I work for our bonus period ends August 30 each year and we get paid about first maybe second week of Oct and that's even if you leave under good terms after 30 august.

Oh well they have to figure someway to give it to you what really is going on is that there trying to keep you a little longer while they find someone to fill your shoes . (and probably want to hire someone about 1/2 your salary and can't find anybody . )

Oh paul about the train wreck the other day while at work I saw one engine pulling (yes I counted them and couldn't believe it) 76 coal cars full of coal and my thought was if he had to stop it would take him about a mile and a half as he was going about 40 - 50 mph would be my guess. I was just trying to think of the weight he was pulling that would be pushing him. (CSX Rail line at this plant) (Williamsburg Store) ( I off load in West Point Plant and there we have Norfolk Southern)

Oh here's a site you have to go visit its hilarious
