in a Southern mug this morning and please keep it coming. Thanks!
***Kevin, welcome aboard & CONGRATS on the new addition to your family.
***Philip, I can sure relate to your internal sleep clock waking you up. Recently I could use a complete replacement of my own clocks inner workings (or non-workings).
***Ryan, those clouds look fine to me. They are a challenge to do well, as is anything painted.
I woke up just past 9:00am and caught Trains & Locomotives on RFDTV. Had seen that one before so dozed off before it was over. Almost out of hay again. Rob
Diners, and a blustery one it is here on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore as post-tropical storm Noel approaches. The rain hasn’t started yet, and landfall isn’t expected until 9:00 this evening, well south and west of here at Shag Harbour, site of a famous UFO sighting in, I think, the 1960s. At any rate that’s what last night’s news said. We are supposed to be on the eastern edge of this storm, and so should escape the worst winds and rain. Updating this (because I didn’t get it posted before having to take Kris’ mom into the Harbour for her weekly hairdo) it’s now just starting to rain, and the weather channel says to expect it to be more of a hurricane (but that’s the imbedded gusts, not sustained winds.)
BTW, Dick:
Tsk, tsk, when are they going to learn to listen to the right weather forecasters ...LOL
I’ll have a JR Regular and a couple of Voortman no-sugar-added chocolate chips cookies please Chloe, as we had lunch in the Harbour…
Fergie:
I'm thinking 20 X20 foot tarps and Duct tape, may also use the bungy cords.
JR: Those two houses look very good to me. Don’t forget that in Normal Scale any detail that can’t be seen within three feet is redundant!
PC: Good news on your boy’s sports. BTW, how’s it going as your wife comes off her meds?
Mike: I wonder what mountain railroad they took that rail from to make the crossing signal guard!
Kevin: You’ll have seen that it’s pretty laid back in here, and is kept clean, so enjoy! Congrats on the new family, and do you have any specific mrr plans?
Did manage to do the major part of the rock staining last night. Not totally happy with the result, and Kris has suggested some changes which I shall attempt today, all being well. With any decent luck I’ll get it all resolved by tonight.
In case I don’t get back in today, don’t forget Daylight Savings
Time ends this weekend, so set those clocks back before bed. Enjoy the extra hour sleep time.

Hello
Time for coffee break and thank you for all the welcomes.
Ryan definitely some great work with the clouds and the backdrop.
Rob you definitely have the system to collect the water great job.
JR love those house very fine job.
PC glad to hear your boy got some playing time it is always great when they get to contribute to their teams success. Always hated to see my boy go to practice every night when others would skip out and then on game day sit while the ones that skipped played it is not about talent but work ethic.
Rob and Phillip working shift work (12 hour days or nights) my sleep pattern gets really messed up. I spoke to my doctor and told him I did not want a sleeping pill that made me groggy or I became addicted to and he gave me Rozerum (sp) one of the Japanese designer drugs. I take one just before I go to bed and about 20 minutes later I drift off I can get up during the night and after 8 hours I wake up with out a problem or a hangover. I use once or twice a month just to reset my clock if I have worked a lot of hours or my body just does not feel rested.
We have had the little girl we are adopting since she was 6 weeks old. Her name is Mika. We have a wooden train set that she loves to play with , last night she learned the difference between a steam engine and a diesel really love how it comes out. My wife could not stop laughing when she took MRR mag to her and pointed out the pictures for each.
I guess that everyone is getting prepared for a real strong windstorm, CMP (Central Maine Power) and its affiliates have everyone on call.
Fergie and der5997 hope all is well in that land North East of us called Nova Scotia and you come thru this Nor Easter in good shape.
Kevin
Good luck to our Mainers.
hey, what's a good way to get me to build my benchwork as opposed to going to the Club and running?

Evening Gang:
Kevin: Welcome to the diner. Farmington Main, eh. I would think that you might be modeling the 2ft gauge stuff. So Mika is into trains. Nothing like getting them interested early.
Ed: Give your son-in-law my phone number and tell him to give me a call when he's in town. As far as I know it's still the last weekend of April so make it a plan. If it changes I'll let you know.
I got to work the new tractor today. Mary Ann and I hauled hay out of the fields to the edge for temporary storage. She used here old IHC and I had the new C-I. It went very well for me. I could get 2 bales at a time and had the job done in about 2 hrs. Mary Ann was on her last bale and ran into a branch that had a wasp nest in it. They got her on the lower lip, chin, and throat. Fortunatualy she's not allergic so a couple of Benydryl and a cold pact has taken care of it. She's in bed now and asleep.
Well I think I'll head for the shower and then bed.
Good Night All
Evenin', Janie - I'd like a cup of decaf and some strawberries with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on 'em, please.
Probably may be running out of the strawberries before too much longer, though. Yum!
PC, pass along my congratulations to your son on the good game. Got GAME, indeed!! (Oh yeah - and you're one proud Dad, too, huh? )
JR, the building's coming along nicely! I like the little farmhouse, too. Great work on those, especially given that they're in N scale.
Mike, that CCCStL/IC station looks nice - 'course, the freight station part need a bit of repairing... Don't wear yourself out on the chores, or you won't have any energy left for MRR'ing, though.
Rob, I guess you could "double-dog-dare" the storms, right? You all in the Southeastern US have gone for a lonnnnngggg time without getting enough rain. Has your Dr. said if there's something they can have you do/take/stop that'd help your Sarcoidosis (or at least tone it down enough for you to get some more sleep)?
to the Diner, Kevin! Sounds like you've been teaching cutie Mika well, if she can point out the steamers from diesels at her age. I know what you mean about the wet leaves, though we don't get them as often here as you may be getting soon enough. Hope you have everything tied down that you can, and keep the dogs inside until the storm gets past ya. I got back into MRR'ing myself just a few years ago (3, 4, whatever..) after about a 25+ year time of being away from it.
Ryan, that's a pretty good job for first try with the airbrush. I should be so lucky when I get ready to do some clouds for my backdrop (but that's a ways off just yet...).
Flashwave, about your benchwork - do you have your plans drawn out for your layout yet? If not, I'd start with that, and get a hold of a good benchwork book to help motivate you some. Getting the lumber for the benchwork (or at least the first section, if you have to stretch it as the money's available) and having it sitting there, staring you in the face sometimes can help. Having a pattern for the legs and bracing that you can follow also would be good, 'cause then you could build a few braces as you have time and get far enough along to start connecting some of them together on the weekend. Just my .
RT, good to see you back in again. You bump the Diner anytime you want to.
Fergie, take care with those tarps, so the storm doesn't blow you all the way to Greenland. Make sure you have several bungie cords holding you to something secure, just in case.
Paul, sorry to hear about Mary Ann and the wasps. It does sound like that tractor is getting easier for you to use, which should almost help pay for itself in the time you save (and can then use for MRR'ing or other enjoyable stuff!). Did you get the manual read before you started out today?
Jerry, Paul's remarks about hoping Sallie won't have to have the surgery done. You better take good care of yourself in the meantime. Don't want you having to do like your neighbor and go to the hospital, though.
Went by our public library today and read the December MR issue today. Rod Stewart's layout looks great! From the drawings, description (and lack of pictures of the rest of it), I'm guessing he probably only has that one side built so far (maybe has the benchwork and possibly scenery foundation done/started on the other side of the aisle). He's been working on it for a long while, I'm guessing, since some of the kits they mentioned that he used I haven't seen in a Walthers catalog for a while (possibly since the late 1970's). I recognized some of the frame type buildings (from kits) that they showed. Beautifully done on what they showed, for sure!
Our LHS in town has re-arranged their store some (they also carry dolls, R/C stuff and other hobby stuff) and has also got in more MRR'ing stuff - more Accurail kits plus a few P2K kits. I may pick up a couple of those after payday (Wednesday). Oh, yeah - they also are having a (monthly?) coupon for 20 percent off any one regularly priced item. They had a similar special a couple of weeks ago when I was there, and they gave me the coupon (for November). Maybe feeling the pressure from Hobby Lobby's every-two-weeks coupons (though the HL ones are for 40 percent off)? Hmm... if I use the LHS coupon one week in November, and the Hobby Lobby ones their two weeks in November, I could save some $$$!
Well, better get myself going - some straightening to do before it's bedtime at home. Prayers for some sleep for our insomiacs, and healing and comfort for those ailing or hurting (or both). And prayers for safety to our Nova Scotian and New England neighbors/neighbours.
Blessings and a safe weekend,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening All,
Just passin' through. No pics today as I spent the day doing track work at the museum. We had to strip the ties out from under a switch and cut a piece of track to length and fit it. Took all day and it's still not spiked or ballasted but we're close. Got home and watched The Amazing Journey on VH1 which was the story of The Who - my favorite band.
Welcome Keith and hope you enjoy it here. Glad your son got some minutes PC when my wife coached elementary school basketball she got criticized because she played the whole roster every game but once everyone was used to it, they realized it was better for everyone and especially the primadonas some of whom came back years later to thank her for teaching them teamwork. Well time to get some sleep - chores tomorrow and then perhaps some more track work.
Hope everyone weathers the storm all right. We had rain predicted all day but only got the wind and cold. CUL, J.R.
Hello everyone...
I'll be at the train show near Detroit in the morning, and hope to meet Duke there. Then we head for Cincinnati in the afternoon. Next day or two after that we're headed back to western KY.
Happy Model railroading .

***Jeffrey, sounds like you had a productive day. Sorry about your fathers back.
***Paul, how does it feel to be all safe & secure in the cab of that new tractor while your wife is being attacked by wasps? Just teasin ya...sure hope she doesn't hurt too much from those stings. Yikes!
***Jim, there is no "cure", and the treatment is worse than the disease. I did try Ambien a couple times and it just made me dizzy when I would get up at night so quit taking it. No biggy, just annoying when I get over-tired.
Spaced out today when I went to buy hay (forgot to bring a check) fortunately they let me take the hay and will pay them next time I'm up there. Whew...didn't want to make the drive twice. All is well on the ol' farm.
Good night all. Rob ps: wonder if Noel is doing any damage tonight?
Boy, I really overdid it yesterday with all that tree cutting. I just ache all over today.

Good morning
Seems we came thru the Noel in pretty good shape here in Maine. The northern counties have a winter storm watch in effect. The interior areas still have flash flood warnings up.
Jeffry I kind of thought you would realize how hard you worked yesterday when you woke up this morning. 2 aspirin and a couple cups of coffee and a quiet day may be in order.
Paul Hope your wife is doing all right wasp stings really get to some people.
JR sounds like your wife understands what youth sports is about. Teach the game and make it fun.
Fergie hope you made out ok news reports say your area got hit harder than we did.
As someone said earlier looks like winter is on its way.
Have a great day Kevin

Mornin' all!
So is everyone well rested with their extra hour of sleep?
So here's how today is shaping up around here.
Sunday - 4 Nov 2007 Partly Cloudy 60°
A mix of clouds and sun this morning with more sunshine this afternoon. High around 60F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Sunday night: A few passing clouds. Low 43F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Sunrise: 7:17 amSunset: 5:40 pm
I hope the folks in the Northeast are doing OK. Some 100,000 customers of Nova Scotia Power (EMA.TO: Quote, Profile , Research) are still without power on Sunday after high winds from remnants of Hurricane Noel cut electricity to 150,000 in the Canada province. It also knocked out power to some 25,000 customers in New England as it moved up the U.S. coast. That was a, as they would say in Maine, wicked good Noreaster.
Around here things are pretty quiet. Just hoping to get some layout time today.
So what's your deal today? What do you have going on?
Good Morning All,
A regular and a jelly donut please Chloe. Doing chores this morning, then back to the rail yard for more track work. Only down side to yesterday was a mildly strained hand from the two stroke rail cutter kicking back so what the hey, I'll go back for more. CUL, J.R.

Largely. I had a real nice plan going. The I got a copy of the Classics Railroads You Can Model And discovered I had just designed Tehachapi. But I had a W shape instead of the heliz in the middle. Their's even fit my room to a T. Ultimately, there may be plans for a 2 tier design. One being the Weastern Maountaining. Then it can either come back and return for another trip through the mountains, or cut into a long slope on a back wall and trade rock for plains, and then fields. Into the lower level, being and Homage to Midwestern turf. Plans to make Indy Union out of Cornerstone's Milwaukee Station. Trains acn then make an oval round that, or drop down again on a compressed Horseshoe Curve. The CRYCM's version ALSO fits. Plus the left over shed from the Milwaukee kit would fit Altoona's. And I have a K4 that the drive rod came loose on , so it fits as the static display. And I've been there, it was a blast. But for now, we just want to get a layout running for my Daylights. The San Jouquin took a jog through Tehachapi.
SO far, benchwork diesigbns is a bunxh of 2x4s, as eventually I will have to take it from dad's. Anyone here know a good track desgner that's as easy to learn as RTS, but has a 30, maybe larger radius turns.
Oh yeah. And right now I'm adding a drumhead to a Spectrum George Washington Observation
Hello all.
Been a little busy lately, not much time to stop in.
On Friday, we went to Animal Talk, a nice pet store near here. They find tons of cats and kittens that need help, whether on the street or at PAWS. We took home 6 out of 9 to foster care for 6 weeks. They used to just be crammed in a crate... The instant we opened it up, it was like an avalanche. They all ran about at quite a good amount of speed, and jumped and climbed on stuff.
Today is the day the EAGLES shall ADMIT DEFEAT courteous of the COWBOYS.
(If only my dad told me when the kickoff is, and what TV station it's on....)
Well, gotta go,
Mark
Hi Gang: I'm just marking my place for later.Mary Ann is feeling better and the swelling is going down. If it had been me it would have ment a trip to the emergency room. I'm allergic.
We took John and his wife to the Green Oaks Inn on the west side of Ft. Worth for breakfast. Today is the last day for it. It is going tobe torn down and a high rise office building put up. We've been going there for 38 years and really like it. It is in the Tudor style, very relaxing, and has very good food. They are having a party for the staff and the long time customers this afternoon so we are going back.
I've got to download some photos from the camera so I'd better get at it.
See you all later.
in a Southern mug today, please & thank you.
I was scrolling down the page wqhen suddenly I saw a blinding light. Good thing I wasn't standing on the tracks when Jeffrey's engine rumbled past!
The good news is my wife has been invited back for a re-interview in a couple weeks (needs to study up on one area of expertise). Bad news is she is sick as a dog today. I had to call in for her as she can't travel farther than from bed to the bathroom and feels very weak. Hopefully just a 24 hour bug. Main thing is keeping her hydrated.
Nothing else to report on. Hope everyone is doing well today. Rob
Allow me to pour myself a refill of strong. So, where is everybody?
Had a reasonably productive day. Sold a few vintage N trains this evening for more than I expected. To celebrate, I bought a few of those mini-metal cars. Have never seen any in person. Do y'all have some and if so, are they nice?
Wife has slept all day. With nothing left in her system, she is weak, but better than she was last night/this morning. Poor thing. (sure hope I don't get it)
Rob
Evening, Janie - how about a cup of hot cocoa for now, please.
Thank you!
Hope all are well in Nova Scotia; good to hear Maine made it through with few bad effects. I'm guessing that once Fergie, DerJohn or Luc get the storm past them and power back on (if needed), we'll be hearing from them.
Paul, it's always a shame to see a favorite eating spot close up after years of good food and service. Maybe the chef and some other of the staff will hire on at another place not too far away... Good to hear Mary Ann's doing some better.
Jeff, you sure you can handle that schedule of yours today? I know some guys that would have a really hard time of doing nothing. That's one bright loco, too!
Lee, another long-missing Diner returns! Surprising how various ones have been stopping by over the past few weeks. Must be fall and the cooler weather, perhaps. Check back in when you get a chance.
Rob, sorry to hear they don't have some other (medical) options to help you. If you meant the Classic Metal Works (CMW) cars, they're pretty good, and not very expensive (especially if you watch for them to be on sale - I check the Walthers sale catalogs and they have different ones on sale in various months). For me, they're good because they have many in the transition era (steam/diesel, 1950's or so). They just added a 1959 Fairlane police car, I noticed, which I'll probably be ordering. Hope your wife gets rested up.
PC, I tried to wake up a couple of times (after going to bed around 10-ish - CST, that is) last night, but I just rolled back over and napped a bit more until the alarm went off. Maybe I was tired too, since I'd also wound up taking an hour and a half nap yesterday afternoon. That, or I'm preparing for when I can become an ORF... Oh, looks like the Colts are doing pretty well this afternoon, PC (if they hold out the last few minutes, at least)!
Jerry, that'd be really neat if both of your area teams made it to the final state playoff. How was Sallie when you talked with her today?
Mark, I bet your place is full of energy, with all the kittens using up some of that excess energy from being cooped up before you brought them home. How long will you keep them until they go to a more permanent home?
Flashwave, sounds like you are further along on your layout than I'd thought. Good idea to keep it in moveable sections, if you'll need to move it before too long.
JR, hope your hand doesn't get worn out with another day on that rail cutter.
Backed up (just new stuff) my iTunes library this afternoon - only took four CDROM's this time (the fourth one probably wasn't too full, since it got done pretty quickly compared to the three others). Need to backup my data files next.
I've been fiddling around with ideas for (at some point) expanding my two-section layout into more of a spare bedroom type (10 X 11' or so). ...and in case you were wondering, Flashwave, I could recommend the layout design software I'm using, but it's only for Macintosh systems. The other folks here can probably tell you better what'd be good on a Windows system. I know Ryan speaks well of 3DPlanIt, and others I'm sure will tell you about their favorites.
I'll be working away on my hot fudge sundae brownie in the corner booth if anyone else comes in, Janie.
Blessings and prayers,
JimRCGMO wrote:Jeff, you sure you can handle that schedule of yours today? I know some guys that would have a really hard time of doing nothing. That's one bright loco, too!
Yes! Still standing!!!!
Thanks for the concern Jim! Blew very hard last night and a lot longer than Juan. High winds lasted for over 4 hours and gusted up to 83 mph. saw close to 2" of rain here but other places saw 4".
Talked with Der John and he's fine lost power last night but it has since been restored.
Glad I was home as the Hudson was right in Noel's path and I suspect saw some nasty weather this morning.
My pick this week just squeaked by! Redskins my gawd almost lost it!!! Who to pick next week?
Anyway must run.

3d? I think I have the demo. wasn't too impressed. btw, here's my first draft of the Midwest section. The zigzags are placeholders for hills. the curves need to be 34 and 30 de3gree radiuses, and not the 22 and 18 that Atlas has. but it gets the idea. Bear with me. top wall, walkway, needs to be open, will prbably be a rural setting, with the up/dpown tracks in a forest, and a tunnel down. middle is India union. the turn up is real, the turn back is me needing to get to the other side of the bed. far wall is a yard. one side will have an engine bay for desiels, the other end will have a large turntable and a few bays for large steamers. the idea is for West trains to pull in, switch power, and take another train back.
Oh, and the idea is not to have to move it for a while. The idea is to keep Dad around for a good long time, so we still have the train room for a goodly long time.
