Good afternoon gents, the temps rose last night briefly to 40F, and that caused all the ice on the trees and wires to melt off.....thank God, because we have high winds and very cold weather due here tonight right through the weekend, and that would surely bring down trees like it already has north of us just 20 miles and into NH.
Temp right now is 26.1F and falling, the Dew point is falling also, now at 15F, which is the temp that air temp could fall to. It is cludy and cold here.
JEFF: Better not wander out onto the roads tonight with freezing rain due......
RYAN: NE has to get by Colts first, and they have very good passing attack....the key will be the rush on Payton, he gets erratic if they get a good rush on him.
MIKE: I was watching a program on the Weather Channel called "It could Happen Tomorrow", and it was all about what would happen when ( not if ) the New Madrid fault quakes again, and it is overdue. It will be real bad, in fact devasting. And you are correct in your statement that because of the ground conditions (silt ), the damage will be tremendous. During the last big one there in the 1800's, the quake was felt ALL THE WAY EAST TO BOSTON, MA...can you imagine that one!!! Had to over an 8!!
BGARDNER: How is the plumbing job coming along? New bathroom time yet?
SUE: With the change in the weather pattern, the East is now going to get Winter, so the West should warm up a bit. I was talking with some people in the General Forum who live in AZ and CA, and their pools have ice on them, and they had to take their locos into the house from their garage layouts because they didn't know what effect the cold would have on the electronics, ie Decoders, sound systems, etc.
Time to go throw another log on the fire, talk later guys,

Of course Philly was equally dumb by punting the ball away at the end....the season was over if the Saints got one 1st down, which they did....... good game to watch though, not boring at all.

Sure was, the score see-sawed back and forth and it sure was a nail bighter too! Now it's off to Chicago and da Bears! I have to agree, I had to walk out of the room when Bush fumbled and loss that toss towards the end.
Jeff, nice tutorial on the backdrop redux! Thanks!
Flip, got your emails, sure are funny too, thanks!
PA Belt, now that is one DIY oil change project I would like to see on one of them 30 minute TV shows. LOL, that was a good one!

Da Bears, dem Saints! Yep, historical game too for the Saints, first time in their 40 year history ever to make it to the NFC Championship Game.

I'd sure like to see NE-Bears super bowl.

Conventional wisdom picks NE-Bears in the Super Bowl, but I have to go with my heart and put the Saints vs. Patriots for the final match up.

Good morning fellers!
How about a bowl of Kashi cereal with some fresh blueberries and organic skim milk Chloe?
Have you ever been in the zone? I was in the zone this weekend!
Friday I was off for my "Flex Friday" and did my share of chores around the house including vacuum, sweeping, and mopping all the hardwood and linoleum floors, among other things.
Then I went to Train Buddy to pick up my order for Digitrax PM42's, SE8C, and a few BDL168's, and a .008 razor saw. Chatted with Kim and fellers a bit and left there feeling good, having just spent my Christmas gift cert + a few extra $$$.
Then off run a few errands, grocery and such.
I finally got to organize a lot of my layout construction tools in the new Craftsman Project Center that the misses gave me for Christmas. Boy was that a great gift!
FYI - The tools are always found in the right place, just where I want them to be at all times. Did I say "In the Zone" Yep, that's me, I'm in the zone. Everything was clicking now, amazing how once you get organized everything starts falling into place.
Also, spent about 3 hours in the train room yesterday afternoon and laid down about 30' of track and turnouts with latex caulk.
How bout dem Saints?
Beat the Eagles 27 to 24 and now off to meet da Bears on Sunday! Saints in the Superbowl? Faith, Hope, and Sean!
Now to play catch-up on the last 8 pages....
Cheers,
Ryan

Dick, Yes, we have 2 new inches since 4:00 this morning. It should change to rain about noon. I am hoping that it will wash away by the time that I get off work.

No thank you! What a goofy pic, huh?
I'll take one of those over there that you have set aside for inch.
Thanks!
Good morning fellow modelers. It's wet, cold and windy here this AM. Looks like I'll be inside most of the day. The only thing I'll have to go out for is to take the car to the shop.

Good Morning, fellow Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee and one of Bill T.'s donuts, please. Yep, the chocolate ones.
Inch, our weather yesterday was much like yours (except for the dusting of snow; didn't get that). Supposed to be colder today, I think the high is supposed to be 31 (F). Right now, it's 21 F with a wind chill of about 9 degrees. Brrrrr!! Thank Heaven for warm coats.
Yesterday was hectic at my work - had a call before I even left for work - the on-call therapist from the night before was finishing up one at the ER, and told me that the local police had one for us there. But my backup daytime guy (David) was out yesterday getting tests done, so I went in to work first and asked our clinical director if she wanted me to go then or not (and leave her and any other clinical staff to handle any walk-ins). I then left for the guy at the jail, and got back about 3 hours later. Asked my clinical director (my boss) how things had been (hectic). Good to let them know that we need another person in the crisis department. Maybe they'll actually hire another person (yeah, right...).
Best part of the day was after 3 p.m., when things finally slowed down, and then the rep from one hospital we refer to (mostly when kids need to be hospitalized) treated me to dinner out. The particular hospital is pretty good in terms of working with us, so we tend to refer a lot to them, anyway, but getting a free steak dinner is good.
However, that meant I missed MRR club, and picking up my order that's in. Have an Athearn tractor-trailer rig, three P2K Timesaver oil tanker kits, and some smaller stuff in.
Better get going - got to get off to work. Hope no one gets snowed (or iced) in today and can't get to the ETS Diner (or worse yet, can't work in the train room!). Have a good one!
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good Morning All,
Another regular to go please Zoe it'll be a hectic day here. Weather is changing though all we got from the storm yesterday was a lot of rain. It is noticably less humid than Monday to the point where we'll start running the humidifiers at night to avoid that waking up in the desert feeling. Hope those of you in the northwest are enjoying our snow and that it hasn't caused a problem. Just don't like operating a rig in it is all.
Inch - good to see you back on the scene again and yes da Bears and the Pats would be ok though i share your concern over Grossmans troubles putting two good games in a row together.
Jeff - nice tutorial on the backdrop especially as most of us seem to put it off until the rest of the layout is well along and yours covers retro fitting.
Paul - I sympathize with your having to sort through all the accumulated treasures. How many times a day are you saying "so that's where that was" or are you more organized than that ? We now have five storage containers here at work - two semi trailers ,two 40 foot cshipping containers and a 36 foot gooseneck trailer with two levels full of wheels and tires.
Oh well - time for work - also have to figure out #2 sons' broken Jetta. Seems the cooling system is full of congealed oil emulsion but I haven't found the source yet. Hope the block or head isn't cracked but the externals don't look good. CUL, J.R.
Mornin, just coffee Zoe, I'll eat when the kids get here later,
Rain finaly ended yesterday mornin, then the temps started dropping. We've got a dusting of snow out now, temp 19, going for a high of 28. Looks like winters showed up for aspell
Thanks for the congrad on the new upcoming grandkid, think it's due in July. Sure hope it's girl we've got enough boys already.
JERRY, do you know the dates for the Mattoon swap meet. Coryville still last years on it's web page.
JEFF, good job on the back drop, looks good.
GREYFOX, When the big one hits the New Madrid fault, it'll do more damage over a larger area than the ones out west. This area here sits on a layer of silt with water flowing under it. Even a minor one can be felt over a larger area.
LEE, a weather man job you can be wrong most the time and still be advertised as the best around also.
Didn't get as much done on the layout as I wanted, but did get some time on it, to much football. Also got some train pics Sunday before the game I'll post some later. Been moving photo from the old Rail Images page to the new. Their going to shut it down before long, so thats been a big job. Best get ta chores, see ya'll laters maybe

The sheets are metric, but like you about 4' X 8' I think more like 2390 X 1290 is the measurements now, we also have 1200 X 600/400/300. For 3/4 about $48 a sheet of 4' X 8' for decent quality.
I'm really happy with the larger space i'm getting now, just that extra 5' will make alot of difference!

Good Monday evening everybody: The winter storm finally got here this afternoon with steady snow. Now it’s turned to ice pellets and maybe rain. That tells me, according to the TV weather, that the jet stream is just a little bit north of here. It’s going to get much colder tomorrow with more snow, they say. However we could be back to rain by Friday.
JR: Too late for your scribed lines advice, as I’d already painted the concrete. I’m quite pleased with the way the penciled joint marks look, given that the whole slab is ridiculously clean and fresh! I got the sea painted today, and the first coat of gloss Mod Podge on to seal it. I’ll see how the second ocean section looks when the gloss is dry. I’m not totally happy with the colour mixes in I there. I can hide some of the bits I don’t like to an extent because that section is a rough sea, and I have to add the surf yet. Adding more paint for depth is a thought, thanks.
More “don’t throw anything out without looking for a mrr use”… I mixed up about 5 or so different colours for each section of ocean, acrylic paints in those little containers butter comes in, in fast food restaurants. Wash them well, as traces of butter linger a bit.
SlappyMike: That police car reminded me of the article on Discovery Channel’s “Daily Planet” last week. Lamborghini have donated a 500 HP Gallardo to the Italian police. That baby does over 300kph, and not much outruns it! They pulled over a Porche at over 280 kph, the driver was somewhat impressed! Almost makes one want to build an Italian layout just to have a model of that scene!
Dick:
DER JOHN: Where is FERGIE?????? What has that lad been up to? His seat has been empty for weeks here.
Jeff: Thanks again for the backdrop info. That’s going to be worth investigating when that time comes. (I know I “should have” put the backdrop up first, but 1) I didn’t know exactly where the hills would be, and so on, and 2) with a shelf layout, I figure I can retro fit without too much trouble (except in the interchange area, but I have a way to reach over the layout for that part.)
Keep warm and dry gang. I think I’ve found out why the weather thas been so weird.
all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Good late evening everyone.......or at least those who have not turned in yet.......just got back from Monday night bmens bowling league, we took 6, barely. Temp shot up to 39 tonight, so all the ice melted off the trees, that was good because we have one big cold wave due here on Wednesday.
SUE: 2 more inches of snow.....wow......and I was in my pool here in the middle of January in New England...tsk, tsk, do you want my snow shovel out there? LOL
JEFF: Nice job Jeff, I guess your hired to paint the inside of the Diner so says Cloe.
See you guys in the morning,
Well guys, I finished my project. As promised, here's Phase III of how I built my backdrop.
Deleted due to change in copyright (01/17/07)
Evening gang: Just stopped in to say Good Night. I didn't get to the basement except to drop off a couple drawings that I found while I was cleaning up in the shop at work. I'm throwing out all the stuff that won't mean anything to whoever comes in to take my place.
Not much else to say tonight. I guess I'll head to bed.
Good Night All

More snow planned for tonight. We still have 2+ inches that have not blown away. Our snow usually turns to rain and washes away. Not this time.

Chuck: The color is Nimble Blue. It's a ColorPlace paint, available from Wal-Mart. It's medium-tint base flat latex. Mix #'s are B-1, D-65, E-46. Color # is 91424.
Sorry PC, I meant I sent one to John. First the hair then my mind. Still raining here, the swale I built last week is full and diverting water properly down to the street and not in my basment. The weatherguesser said snow tonight, that's a good thing, I have a new leak in my garage and need time to get up there and fix it.
I should have been a weather man! It's the only job I can think of where you can be wrong 80% of the time and not get fired. The river out by me is about 13" over flood and a few streets I hear are impassable, GF is having a hard time getting home from work.
Well I hope things are better for you guys. I hope the power stays on for you Greyfox

Inch, should be a great game this weekend, but they can't play around, otherwise New Ol's will roll them over. One plus is Chicago's famous winds ( right by the big lake) and the overall cold. Ever notice that all the places that have the worst weather when playoffs come don't have domes??Greenbay, Chicago.
Heard Saddam's brother really lose his head over getting hung this morning.( I know its wrong to think that way, but they had no problem doing that to our people that they took has hostages. I don't know where does it end. Enough of this I got to go run some trains.
Good evening gents, the fog is so thick outside that I poked my eye trying to find my ear!! Now 32.1F, ice all over everything, no wind yet, so the power lines and trees are holding their own so far.
FARGO: You may not see Ocean front property in Missouri in your lifetime, but your grandkids might. However, the New Madrid fault is overdue for a big one, and when it happens............welllllll lets just say I wouldn't want to be lving anywhere near the arches nor the Big Muddy....it changed courses during the last big one in the 1800's.

SNOW blew into the MR room and we have a small puddle in the middle of the door and that is linlieolmneiuytr what ever that is ,the stuff that doesn't get wet.
