Nice weather here today for the launch of Discovery (STS-120)

It's been rainy for quite a spell around here lately. So much so that the county flew tankers over us and aerial sprayed for mosquitoes. They have cases of West Nile in the county.

Back to my morning enjoyment. The Cape is 100 miles (160 klicks) down the coast and still the flame and smoke from the launches is breathtaking. My little 37mm objective lens on my POS Kodak doesn't do it justice. But here thy are anyway.
Next launch December 6 and I'm packing my Oxygen bottles and fueling up the T-Bird and going down to see Atlantis (STS-122) launch

***Scoot, from that distance could you hear any kind of sound/boom from it? Would be very cool to witness a launch near The Cape.

Screwed the lid on the water tank at the barn tonight: "1550 gals worth" Big Smile [:D] Tank at the house leveled off at 1250 gal, so still room for more wet stuff. We're Happy Campers tonight.

Good Evening All,

I was standing in the paddock at Moroso (West Palm Beach) a couple of years ago when one of the shuttle launches took place. The amount of bright light and smoke is just unbelievable.

Waiting for the Tenax to set on the last backdrop factory window frames so I thought i'd drop in for a slice of blueberry pie ala mode (assuming PC has left any). Dragged an old dresser into the basement for more storage and may use it to support a second yard under the upper level in the workbench area so I can store my freight cars if I ever get around to building them. Anyone else have the problem of too many kits and not enough time? Guess this is how you end up spending ten or more years building a layout, no? I just try to stay on task and get the track and scenery done before getting after stuff like detailing rolling stock.

Onward and upward -the glue is set and I'll check in later. J.R.

***JR, you're way ahead of me. Have not even started building a table/module yet. I told myself, "If by age 40 I don't have a layout, I'm going to sell off my trains and forget about it". Now that benchmark is set at 50 and I'm half way there and still no layout. I know I won't live long enough to have a large layout complete with all the details and weathered everything, but I WILL have a smaller one on which I can run some trains darn it. Mischief [:-,]

Evening Gang:

PC: Don't worry, He's got your six covered.

I'm tired tonight and really didn't get much done today. After all the usual chasing around I went to the creek crossing and gave it a cleaning. There wasn't much there but I wanted to clean it out anyway.I got my flue shot today so I guess I'll get flu symtoms. Last year I didn't have any symtoms. For that matter I haven't had sy,toms for several years. I guess my luck ran out.

Printer: Great pictures thanks.

I'm going to hit the sack.

I'm almost finished with the locomotives for the Midland Gulf Railway. Here they are, pretty much as they sit at the moment.

Here you can see the PA2 and the GP50 and just to the right of the shed you can see the front of the F7-A.

In this shot you can see the SD9.

And here is the GP38-2, beat up and showing it's age.

Jerry we look forward to seeing your pictures.

In photobucket browse photos in your computer using button in upper right corner. After selecting press "upload'. Wait for it to get to your album. Look at pictur in album and click in box of corner.

Then at bottom right press button for "Generate HTML or IMG code. It goes to another screen. Near bottom of that sceen find IMG code for messages. highlight the code and uses "edit/copy". Return to forum and click on "edit/paste" to get code into message typing box. Click on 'preview" to see picture and then on "post' when ready for that.

Jerry,

If nothing else perhaps Ed will come to the rescue. I still download from my Trainboard account manually. To cheat and post use [ IMG ]then after you right click properties on the pic you want putting the info in after the [ img ] then finish with [ /img ] (delete the spaces in the brackets) and it should work. The rest is too far beyond what my little mind can comprehend.  Good luck

Rob - ya gotta start somewhere. My first modern layout was some track and trains from K-mart on an abandoned ping pong table. That was four decades and four setups ago. If nothing else, can you set up something on a bookshelf? Just being able to run trains back and forth can be a huge insipration   Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Nah, JR, I never have that problem...(as he looks at his tower of structure kits in the one room and the other stack of freight car kits in the other room...) Laugh [(-D] Perhaps several of us have been sucked into the "oh-that-would-be-nice-on-my-layout-even-though-I-haven't-a-clue-where-I-could-fit-it" zone. Y'think so, folks? Wink [;)]

Rob, great to hear the rain is taking care of your critters' needs. Have you started on that rather large craftsman kit of the ark yet? Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] Whistling [:-^] Now, play nice - share some of that rain with the folks around you, too. (tee hee...)

PC, I will be praying for wisdom and guidance for both you & your wife, plus the doctors, nurses and medical staff.

Printer, that's really neat that you're close enough to see that much of the launches. Like you said, if your could be able to get a little closer, even better! Thumbs Up [tup]

Got more of the paperwork done today - I was blessed in that today some of the intakes I needed to finish up, turned out I had abut 2/3rds or 3/4ths written and left it in my folder for the clients (so those ones took almost no time to get done). About 1/3rd or more through my list of stuff to get done. I also found one note I supposedly missed, but my copies of my logs indicated I didn't see any outpatient clients for about two weeks before that date, and my logs don't show that client's name anywhere on that date. Progress - YES!!! But I will feel so much better once I have that all done and caught up.

We're still getting rain today - nice, drizzle/soaking rain, and I think we're supposed to have more until Friday. Shock [:O] Good for washing away the pollen and other allergens, though.

Think I'll finish off my cocoa in the window booth and see if any other night owls come in.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening, hope everyone had a great day. I had an "interesting" day troubleshooting the lawn tractor "no start" problem. It certainly looked like the battery was shot, 3 years old? Not so. I shorted the contacts on the started solenoid and the engine cranked over. So, you might say old solenois was bad, wrong again. Next was the ignition switch, ahhh, very dirty between the contacts, could it be shorting? No again. So now it was time to chase wires, that is always fun in an old tractor. It turned out to be the safety neutral micro-switch, it was intermittent. Thank God for schematics that are accurate with color coded wires to follow through the dirt and grime and tight places.

DRIVER: Thank you for sharing the photos, I am glad to see that it cleared in Florida for liftoff, there was a lot of doubt earlier.

J.R. : The Rocky Mountaineer folks offered the passengers two options, $250 back for each passenger, or, a voucher good until the end of 2008.

Rain due tonight and tomorrow, so posting the photos of the trip is on the schedule after a trip to the dentist for qtrly cleaning.

Bon soir mais amis,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Hello everyone.......

Somebody please help Jerry. I'm not a computer expert.

Here's a picture. I browsed to get a picture. I pressed upload. Actually it's easier than I said before. Under each picture in the album is a list of codes. Find the IMG code. Highlight the code. Copy into your message for the forum.

Rob might appreciate the Holstein cows in this photo.

Happy Model Railroading!

Morning.

Well today at school we have an inspector from the USAF (United States Air Force) here to inspect all of the cadets and the Soughmores have to drill infront of the inspector and if they mess up. Lewiston High School has to drop the AFJROTC program. The inspector comes every 5 years.

Diners (and G'Day, OzJim)! Zoe, a cup of coffee (if Fergie made it, you might add a bit of water to mine...) - thanks!

Not yet raining here today, but give it a little time and that'll likely change. Wink [;)] A rather cool 46 F currently (which would be short sleeve weather for Fergie and our Nova Scotian neighbours).

'Nuther day of getting things whittled down at work...

Jerry, on your photos, do you have them uploaded to your Photobucket account already, or is your problem with getting them there? And have you looked at the diretions out in the main forum (think it's one of the first four topics at the top of that page)?

I'll be drinking my coffee at the window booth for a bit.

Good morning, all!

Fall has found southeast Texas.  It is in the 40's this morning.  Clear skies and low humidity.  After the long summer this weather is really welcome!

PC, my prayers are with you.  You have a really tough decision.  Have the doctors given you any statistics?  Have you searched the web to see what you can find there?  When my late wife was sick, I learned a lot from searching the web including  searching Medline which is a medical article database.

Went to Houston yesterday on business and visited Papa Ben's, my favorite hobby shop.  Nov 3 the group here is going to Houston to the train show there, which apparently is much like a GATS.  Ok, it's got a lot of tinplate, etc., but it's still a train show and we feel the need to go to one.

Well, the coffee cup needs refilling so I think I'll go refill it, grab a bite of breakfast, and go to work.  Have a great day, all!

This may be funny to you guys... It's funny to me......

What would you do if birds were the size of blue whales?

Here's my answer....

1) When they take a BIG FAT ***, scream, don't yell:

INCOMING!!!

2) NEVER, EVER use windex on your windows. Period.

Yeah, we've done some research and found that this doc is pretty "on it".  It helps when the Muscular Dystrophy Association is real interested in your case (her form of the desease is pretty rare).  We go back to the doc's today for more testing and an MRI of both knees.  Guess we'll know more soon, huh?

Hello everyone.......

Rob ... The cows don't eat much. The E8 is a Life Like Proto 2000.

(Texas) Steve ..... if you get to Houston show, I have a friend traveling there from paducah to sell stuff. He sells under the name "Classic Trains and Ferrari's" and his name is Bill. He's quite a good guy and normally has a big book selection.

Philip... we're all concerned about your better half. We have an anathesiologist (kan't spel it) in our family, and if you want some insights I could ask for you.   Prayers.

Take care.......
