Good morning gang......17F this morning, wind chill is 5F, so we are far better off then yesterday.

I just saw on the news that a fire last night in Kentucky killed 6 children in one family, the parents and a two year old were the only ones that escaped.  That is so sad, I can't imagine those poor parents standing outside while their 6 children were dying inside the house with no hope of rescue. Having had fire-fighting training, I cannot stress enough the need for parents to make sure smoke detectors are working, to have a plan for each child to escape, escape ladders from bedroom windows, and most important, constantly be checking for fire hazards in your homes. Space heaters are a #1 cause of fires in the colder months. Children have stuffed toys, clothing, etc thrown all over these devices, and that is a recipe for disaster!!!. I never want to carry a dead child out again!! Jeff, you know what I'm talking about more than others.

CAPE JIM: Are you trying to get me in trouble with Mary Ann????? You trickster!! Wait until Der John hears of this!!!!!!!!!!!

PC: Ahhhhhhh, the infamous Alberta Clipper is descenting upon the midwest once again!!! Like all of them this winter, it will pass south of New England and hit Ryan and points north to New Jersey. Do you need my shovels Phil??? LOL

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Indeed things are progressing.  I was just thinking last night that I needed to clean up in there and take some pics for you all.  I finished subroadbed for the class 1 last night.  Roadbed should go quickly, then comes track.  I'm hoping to lay track maybe as early as this weekend.  I'll get some pics up soon.

Morning all, I'm having a problem posting from home at the moment.  I had a virus or some sort of problem last week and took the computer to a repair shop where the hard drive was wiped clean and XP reinstalled.  I'm still in the process of reinstalling some apps.  When I try to post here I can type the message in the reply box but when I click preview or post it disappears without being posted.  Then the reply box opens again.  It's probably just a setting somewhere I've forgotten. Any suggestions?

Yeah, we're getting it all this evening I think.  Here's the weather guessers words of wisdom for today.......

SNOW ADVISORY UNTIL MIDNIGHT! A fast moving clipper will streak across the Ohio Valley today and tonight producing a band of accumulating snow across most of Indiana. Right now, the heaviest snowfall should occur across the central and southern portion of the state. I expect 2" -3" of snow on the ground by 5pm and a storm total 3" -5" by late evening. A couple of spots might receive as much as 6" of snow.   Driving conditions should become hazardous this afternoon and evening. Allow yourself plenty of time when heading back home from work or school as roads will be snow covered and slick. The snow should not be on the heavy, wet side as the atmosphere is too cold. Also, I do not expect a lot of wind so blowing and drifting hopefully will not be a problem.   The storm is a fast mover and will get out of the state by midnight. Some sunshine but cold weather will continue for the next several days. Again, 3" - 5" of snow by late this evening. Have a great and safe day.

Right now is not so bad, just cold, but you can see it coming......

Good Morning! I'll have some scrambled eggs with ham, and a cup of coffee please, Zoe. Thanks, Jeff! (Boy, did I time that one just right...)

Paul, you ol' rascal, you - calling and tormenting your former boss! Laugh [(-D] Yeah, your weather sounds like it's barely endurable, isn't it? Wink [;)] At first when Dick started suggesting a 'companion' for you, I was thinking "Is he crazy? If Paul did that, MaryAnn would kill him! Why is he telling Paul to get a girlfriend?" Evil [}:)]Shock [:O] But then I read on, and saw that Dick meant getting a dog. Laugh [(-D]

We're up to 24 degrees this morning already. Wow!! [wow] Supposed to maybe reach 42 today (we'll see if that happens, though). From the radar, it looks like Inch and Jerry had better get in the wood for your fires - may not be helpful for getting outside for a little while. And our Indiana folks like PC may be next in the cold front's path. Oops [oops] Our forecast is somewhat on-again, off-again with any snow, every few days a possibility of snow, then just warm enough to melt off some of what we get.

Time to head on out. Everyone bundle up (except for Paul - put your SPF 15 on today). Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Blessings on your week,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All,

Sweltering here with the temp a balmy 9F when I got up. Or maybe I'm getting balmy. Got lots done yesterday and need to do the same today. Finally got the bridge girders to look like a bridge, now all I have to do is figure the best way to secure them to the center span and I can make some real progress. Finally got my photo disc into the home computer - seems I was looking in all the wrong places for the link. Now to figure out how to post to Railimages again and then link a few here.

Paul - That must have made your bosses day. Used to have an employee who would call in with eye trouble. You's ask what the problem was and he'd reply that he just couldn't see coming to work that day.

Time to pick up tools and get on with it. CUL,Big Smile [:D]J.R.

Mornin, coffee Zoe,

Not as cold this morning, we have 6 on the plus side and 0 wind chill, under cloudy skies, looking for a high round 18. Ok that's the good part, we also have 3-4 inches of snow forcast for this afternoon. Oh well it can always be alot worse.

PC, thats alright, you only missed home by about 80 mile to far south. Jerry and me are bout 18 mile west of Terre Haute just off I-70. I did live by Peru IND. for a short, when I was station at Grissom, and me an Mother both have family round the Terre Haute area.

DICK, I do bout the same thing with the wife when she wants me to go shopping with her. There's not to many LHS round here, so I get to do some Rail fanning. Like this Saturday, she suppose to go to #3 daughters in Springfield. There's a LHS 2 blocks from her house, plus maybe get some pics going and coming.

Don't think it was the big game that got to Grossman. He just play like he did the last half the season. The whole team played poorly. The team played that way twice in regular season. Bears lost both those games

Best get ta chores, got things to do before the snow starts. Ya'll have a gooden

Good midnight everyone, 9.2F right now with a wind chill of -7F....and we have an other week of this cold at least. But the woodburner and the Pellet stove are doing a banner job at keeping the house very comfortable.

PAUL: That must have been very rewarding for you to call in to the former boss with that statement..LOL. Now remember Paul...stay out of Mary Ann's kitchen !!!!!!! BTW, don't you think you have time now for a companion? Like a nice Border Collie to help you round up the cattle while you swing on your hammock with a soft drink and MRR in your hand?

What commercial on the SB game did you guys think was the best/worst?

See you guys in the morning, bon soir,

Evening All:

JimCG: Actually there are 2 LHSs near the doc's office. Not much more then 5 min to one of the m and 10 min to the other. Actually the doc is a great guy and a gun owner and shooter. We have a bunch to talk about besides Mary Ann. Now my urologiset is a model railroader. He's in O gauge. I was going to make a smart alec remark but Bergie would have deleted it and me.

I hate to mention what our weather was today. Well OK you talked me into it. Try 61F and sunny no wind to speak of and sitting in the sun was great.

When we got up early this morning I called my former boss and told him that I wasn't coming in today because I had a bad case of retirement. I can't repeat what he said.

Jeff: Nice job on the E unit.

Well it's early but I'm going to hit the sack. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Good Night All

Just to let you know what I've been up to

I've been doing a bit of paint work today. Sorry about the blurry pics. My camera sucks!

Before trim work and decaling.

And after.

Here's another one I just decaled. A GP40P-2.

I just converted an Athearn F7A BB to DCC. It's always been a good runner but couldn't crawl well. Now it can crawl, and it's top speed is so fast that the cars derail. I'm getting more of these NCE decoders. Walther's part #524-139, NCE Silent Running 2 function decoder.

Good afternoon everyone, has everyone recooperated from watching the big game in the Diner yesterday? Mike went home sad, PC was doing the Irish jig on top of the counter until Cloe gave him a swat, no one has seen Fergie since halftime, we sent Der John out to look for him with Luc, but they never returned either!!! Then Cloe discovered that the entire box of Rum Balls was gone.........now we all know how Der John likes those Rum Balls.....so that ended the search for all three of our Canadian friends. Mon Dieu!!!!

Well today it is 12.4F, with wind gusts to 40 Mph. The wind chill at the moment is reading -3F. I had to bring in more firewood, and believe me I made that trip in record time!!!

JEFF: Hope the ultrasound come up negative buddy.

CAPE JIM & PAUL: Guys, after being married for 47 years, you need to learn to be ONE STEP ahead of the wife. I have a "war" map in my computer room. On this map, I have a circle around all the places that she frequents to shop and then some. I then have puch pins inserted where all the LHS are located. So, whenever she wants to go somewhere, I have a plan already in place. ( Military training does come in handy )

MIKE: Tsk, tsk, tsk, that was a sad performance by the Bears, and they started off so well with that runback on the opening kickoff. Grossman was really intimidated by the big game. Next year Mike!!!!!

So what is everyone up to today ?

GMT, we know what most the problem is with our power. 1 it's a co-op, 2 there's only 16 houses on this line and none of us are bigwigs in the area [and I was told that by one of the bosses]. So, they don't keep the trees trimmed way back and don't replace poles, unless they break.

Best get back and bring in pellets and corn. Was waiting on the temps to rise some, it has now it's 7 above.
