The JD folks needed another extra day to fill those tractor tires. They had to call one of the other shops to find out how much water vs air. (shaking my head)

Morning, Diners - Zoe, a JR regular, glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk, and some cereal, please!

...and I'll be over at the back table. Thanks. S'cuse the mask, Zoe. Don't want to give anyone what I have!

Yesterday, I had them cancel my afternoon appointments and left w**k early. I was feeling the aches in my lower back, in my legs, and suspected I had the flu or something. Got home some before two, and slept till a little before five. Had some veggie beef soup for dinner (I'd had the chicken & rice for lunch), watched the news and checked email, then went back to bed after checking my temp (about 102 F).Dead [xx(] This morning it was 100, so I told them I wouldn't be in today (I'm on-call for tonight, so hoping I'll be through with this by then. That, or that I don't have to get called out). And I had the flu shot several weeks ago. I'll be missing our w**k 'Thanksgiving dinner/lunch today, but I don't think I would appreciate it too much.

PC, good to hear your wife is coming home. Take good care of her, and be cautious with the pain meds. I have heard of some people who took the pain meds only as prescribed and still wound up having trouble getting off them after they'd healed. But I know she'll need them some, after those surgeries. Angel [angel] Ferrari's, huh? Wink [;)]

Our weather here today has turned 'more seasonal' (as the weather guy said) - 30's this morning, high of 50 (F), and cold wind gusts (probably in the 15-25 mph range). They were saying there probably would be a wind chill factor today (Oh, whoopee!...) Problem is, I'm out of milk and need to run by the store to get some minimal groceries that are easier for my system. Well, bundle up time.

Fergie, that's one nice loco - will you be repainting it in MESS(tm) regalia, or will the CP have trackage rights through?

Jerry, very nice job on the oil pump, and I wouldn't worry about the belt in iNvisible scale. As JR said, just put a fence around it and no one will even notice. Now, the fence may be fun to do, from what I've heard from some of our MRR club members...

RT, nice score on the PA! Good to hear that others are using their HL 40% coupons. Was your price 40% off the sale price? That'd be even better if they do that...Smile [:)]

Cary, that bristles idea on the hump yard might be a simpler way to slow the cars. Just make them so you can easily replace the bristles as they wear out. Thumbs Up [tup]

Dave, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back! Sign - Ditto [#ditto] what DerJohn said on more coming back, over the past couple of months, especially.

Well, I'd best get my liquids into me and mosey on out before I give somebody this crud. See you later!

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning all,

Hey Zoe, Front and center,  I'll have two par-boiled caraway seeds on toast and a large OJ.  I'm told that I should loose a little wieght.

Here is a good diner laugh The Seniors Breakfast Special
**********************************

I LOVE this one.....it will make your day. Send it to the Seniors in your life - I'm sure they'll appreciate it!!
It pays to think outside the box!

We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the "seniors' special" was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99. "Sounds good," my wife said. "But I don't want the eggs." "Then I will have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a-la-carte," the waitress warned her. "You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" my wife asked incredulously. "YES!!" stated the waitress. "In that case I'll take the special." my wife said. "How do you want your eggs?" the waitress asked. "Raw and in the shell," my wife replied. She took the two eggs home.

DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!! We've been around the block more than once.

Got to go for now, must deliver a dryer for my son who is at work. I have been off for three days, have to go in tomorrow though.

Have a great day,  Will catch you all on the back side.

Mornin' all!

Cooled off around here the last few days!

Today: Blustery, much colder, a few sprinkles & flurries possible...High: 43

Tonight: Clearing and cold...Low: 25

The Mrs. is home and as comfortable as can be expected for now.  We have two physical therapists coming over today.  My mom is also there.  Her wheelchair and stuff is due to be delivered any time.  I, unfortunately, could not take another day off.  The boss was freaking out.  I guess I should be thankful I'm so necessary to the company, huh?  Truthfully though, I just want to be home taking care of my wife.  Oh well!

I guess I'd best get at it!

Later!

Good Morning All,

Rainy and in the high 40's this morning. Went in for more blood work this morning so we'll see how that goes.I'll have that twisty donut thingy of Bills' and a regular please. And maybe some of Eds' orange juice. Even though Phil might not agree, I doubt that strawberry ice cream counts as a fruit dish. And gee I really thought that laser would have been a good idea for the diner. Besides we could use it during down time to cut out parts for our model railroad structures. And just think we could use it to cut our racks of ribs apart without getting all covered in sauce! Aw come on guys won't you reconsider?Whistling [:-^]

PC - hope everything continues to go smoothly. The CFO has had four knee surgeries and will eventually require at least one replacement the result of playing catcher in fast pitch softball for 16 years. At least now I know what to prepare for.

Jerry - awesome oil pump. We used to drive through the Kettleman Hills on our way to the coast and see hundreds of those bobbing away. If you put some fencing up you can get away without the rubber band drive belt.  I have a lighted magnifier I use for checking spark plugs here at the shop I keep thinking would do for close in w..k on the N scale stuff. Maybe santa could bring you a magnifier and tweezers?

Fergie - there's nothing wrong with pink rolling stock. Here's what happens when you use non UV stable floor wax to clean a red caboose.

Well, gotta go and this morning, I'm changing tires so I've put it off longer than usual, but it is time to pick up tools.    CUL, J.R.

On the paint scheme, I borrowed a concept from the early light-weight streamliners, less is more. By keeping it simple it's easy to reproduce. The decals are all of my own design. I made them right here on my printer. I use decal paper when I can get it, otherwise I print them on airmail paper.

Mornin, coffee n a couple doughnuts Zoe.

Cold this morning [36] wind chill 26, expecting a high of 47 with gust wind 25 to 30.

PHILRUNT,,your bout right on what rail fanning is. It's taking your camera n going out looking for trains. I take a camera most anytime we go somewhere. Sometimes I get lucky and catch one or two. Me n mother have even chased them a few times to get a shot. Other times it's like you there in Muncie, not one train around.

JERRY, pump jack looks good, you n Andy did a fine job.

RT, good score at HL. Guess I need to get over that way one of these days.

JR,, probably not the best for the diner. Can you imagine what it would do to the turkey or PC's pie?

PC,,, glad to hear the wife's home.

I just had KC yesterday and she was in a hold me mood, sure was a pain, but I got plenty of hugs n kisses. Today I just have Jbirds maybe, her mommy may not have to work. Either way I got a bunch of chores, getting things done for our turkey day along with other the chores. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

Whistling [:-^]

Hi Gang,

Sure is quiet in here tonight.

Jeffery must have scared everyone with the threat of that storm and all have gone home.

Jeff, I want you to know that that Canadian blow passed through here yesterday. It was powerful. All the way from Calgary to Winnipeg. 60 to 75 MPH winds.  Blew some vehicles off the roads. Flipped an RV. near Saskatoon, broke lots of trees, tore some roofs off.  Moved my utility trailer beside my garage about 8 feet back until it hit the gate into the back yard. Good thing or it probably would have ended up in the storm channel. So it sounds like it has pretty much blown itself out if its down to 25 mph.  So hang on to that lightining rod Jeff and you should be OK.

Did lots of work on the layout the last two days. Completed the sub-roadbed for the branchline and reverse loop.  The loop starts at a point where there are twin bridges so it took quite a bit of fiddling to get them lined up and elevated properly. But looks like it is going to be just "dandy".

I have just left plywood roadbed in for now over the gorge, sometime in the future I hope to get brave enough { skilled } to replace it with a tressel.  But more important things on the list right now.

Did a little train running , but thought I would drop in here and have a dog & suds before bed.

Eyes are having a hard time staying open and when that happens the spell check gets a work out.

Prayers and blessing to all in need, So glad to hear that some are on the mend and back home. Be sure to take good care of her, I'm sure she would do the same for you.

Sweet dreams all.

Johnboy is headed for the pillow..

Water storage tanks, tubs, buckets...ALL are overflowing...YIPPY!

Hey, I took that turkey quiz thinking I must have done well...Only 13 of the 20 right (according to their answers). However, I dissagree with them on several answers. In fact, I KNOW some of their "correct answers" are indeed incorrect, so don't feel bad guys.  Remember folks, just because something is on the Internet, doesn't make it true.     Back again, it's like I just can't get enough of this great diner chow!

inch53- I don't know what it is, but if I have in my immediate vicinity a camera that has film, batteries, and the sun is just right, it becomes safe to actually to have a pic-nic or build houses on any tracks I might be near. Years ago, I took a day off work for a Dr's appointment, it took all of 20 minutes so I went to downtown Muncie, In, and sat for 6 hours beside the Conrail AND Norfolk Western main lines, (3 converging lines in total) and not o n e, repeat, o n e train went through. As I drove north through town on my way home at dusk, it sounded like someone had opened a train horn factory behind me. Sometimes I think it is a Twilight Zone kinda thing!

jeffreyW-Again, thats a good looking scheme, on both the hoods and the cabs. Simple, but striking. Very railroady (if thats a word), getting the most from less. I like the way the decals look too! Are they custom?

Heartland- I totally agree with you about this year being on a fastclock. Seems like just a few weeks ago we started the "year of '007" (read like Sean Connery would say it), and now it's pretty much over! Why do they go faster when you get older?

Cox47- You built that out of scrap? Thats a great looking pump! Most of what i build out of my scrap box looks like something Picasso did during his "Sangria" years! Good job!

rtarincollector-Good score on the G scale at Hobby Lobby! Careful, sounds like the beginning of MSD- Mutiple Scale Disorder-, a disease that creeps up on you and promptly dissipates your energy, depletes your finances and causes your focus to go right out the door! Especially after you see all of the really neat stuff that is coming out in G, like that SD70MA uhhhh.....see, there it is! Thats how it gets you!

Garry-That spinach deal is why I never eat anything remotely healthy! No sir, when you eat cheeseburgers and donuts, you don't have any false expectations about your food killing you! On the other hand, if you eat spinach and broccoli and it croaks you, ya gotta be mad! (and have you noticed that the last four letters in broc-coli...well, you get my drift!) Wean yourself off of that healthy stuff, pick up a Sara Lee cheesecake and bask in the safety of your selection! If you get the Strawberry Topped, well right there is your daily fruit requirements!

der-I use pencils alot in modeling, probably due to all of the doodling I did in school. You can add personalized graffiti, weathering, facial hair and wristwatches, all sorts of neat stuff! I tried to put windshield wipers on a car once with a Sharpie Fine, that didn't come out so good, though! O scale wipers on an HO Crown Vic. But if the Monsoons ever come, thats the car to drive!

Amyjo and I went to Hobby Lobby today, they are gearing up for C-mas, and they have a pretty good selection of MR supplies, sets, etc. But what caught my eye was in the crafts dept, they have pieces of colored cut glass that would make good slabs of steel. If you haven't been to a craft store-HL, Michaels etc,- you might check 'em out and see what they have. Alot of potential!

OK, everybody take care, and we'll be a talkin' to ya!

Good evening Diners:  Looks like it's my tab, so belly up to the bar! I'll have a toasted multigrain ham sandwhich with mayo please, and a JR regular. Thanks Zoe.

Nothing very much on the layout today, it was more of an outside chores day.  Did manage to get an old spray can (the first two I tried were no good) to yield a grey primer coat on three pieces of stripped corrugated cardboard I’m hoping will work for a modern steel piling-type face for that container dock.  Once it’s really dry I’ll brush paint on an acrylic red-brown, and see just how fuzzy it still is. The fuzz is from the fibres in the cardboard’s outer layer that has been stripped away, but still adheres to the corrugations.  It’s the corrugations that look like the pilings of the dock face.  So long as there aren’t too many left, I think that I should be able to dry brush them to look like seaweed.

Northern Phil:

der5997-Now this is only a suggestion, but when I was in N, I always added expansion joints with a #2 sharp pencil. It also made pretty good oil spill stains that looked like they had been cleaned or were old. I tried black ink, and it was too dark, it made the lines look about 3 scale inches wide.
…Thanks for these tips.Thumbs Up [tup] I used pencil on the Fish Oil plant wharf, and had really forgotten that. You are right, the ink would be very black, and I’m not sure just what I’d use for a pen that would be Normal scale for those joints.  I was really responding to Ryan’s great looking concrete floor of the roundhouse.

The oil spill idea is intriguing, I must try that out on some scrap pieces. Pity the garbage was put out tonight, as there are a couple of test pieces for the concrete paint mix in there!

Dick:

Cary:

(by JR) - IIRC there was mention of using bristles from a stiff nylon brush poked up in the track to slow the cars as they came down hill.
…I’ve used that tip to hold ore cars on a grade at a mine site (Campbell River layout).  That was static, but it’s certainly worth a try with a moving car, and way less complex than either my suggestion or CapeJim’s.  You’ll probably have to experiment with just how many bristles, and exactly what height.  I’d keep a log of the attempts, so you can see what the good choices are.

Welcome back Dave.  Holding up pretty well, and there are more old clients dropping in all the time lately.

PC:  Glad Mrs. is home. Lots of TLC will keep you away from the layout I shouldn’t wonder. Drop in as you can with updates though. We’re praying for you both.Angel [angel]

That’s it for tonight. Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Just a quick check-in tonight as we're still in the midst of packing for the trip.  we'll be gone almost three weeks.  During that time, while I will have occasional access to the net, I don't know if I'll have a chance to post.  So if I just drop out of sight for a while, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.

Jerry - I like the pump.  Turned out really nice.  There are so many different variations on this theme.  I don't think the lack of a drive belt is critical.  We're talking N scale here, right/

RT - great price on the train set.  Nice going with getting a good price and using the coupon.

Gotta run.  See you guys soon.

Regards

Ed

Hello everyone .....

Here's what happened. We just had our spinach salads an hour ago. Then I see the Forum thread telling about spinach being recalled for E Coli.  Well, then I pawed through the trash to retrieve the bag, and found out it was Dole brand and not on the recall list identified on the linked article in the thread.  I get back on the comouter, and I see Jeff spotted the dates were over a year ago. Thanks Jeff. What happend, Dick?

I'll eat something else tomorrow.

RT .... good news about the deal from Hobby Lobby. As I mentioned, there are train shows in the Nashville area early in December.

PC ... keep taking care of Mrs. PC.  Make sure she does not rush recovery and she follows instructions. I feel great that prayers are being answered.

I had a little fun.  I posted a thread in Trains Forum asking people thoughts about if they think BNSF should go back to the warbonnet and also the Santa Fe name.

Happy Model Railroading!

Now would I go and do a thing like that?  Esspecially after I waited until she was jacked up on Morphine before I convinced her to agree to matching his and hers Ferrari's? Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] Well, I might......but only if I was alone or with somebody! Shock [:O] (Now I just have to come up with a spare couple hundred grand.............Black Eye [B)])

I just received a severe weather warning for my area. It seems that tonight and tomorrow a Canadian cold front will be moving through pushing wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph ahead of it. That doesn't sound like much unless you happen to be out on one of the area lakes at the time. Wind like that can really drive the chop up, making navigation hazordous as small craft can be prone to capsizing. About the only way it'll effect me is to blow tree limbs down and/or put a tree over onto the power lines. In that case I'll have to go and help remove it.

Evening Gang:

RT: You are a sneaky devil. That was pretty good plaining.

PC good to hear that the Mrs is home. Now don't take advantage of her condition and buy a bunch of train stuff.

The cows are fed and we visited with one of the guys from Shell who was checking the well. I also got the ears glued back on Mary Ann's two rabbits. The only RRing I got in was watching a couple of UP freights go through. Yesterday I saw a BNSF train go by. It was evedently a unit coal train. It was empty and headed west. The intire train was made up of GATX bottom dumping hoppers. That's the first unit train I've seen go through here. Could be we have some new traffic. It's going to be colder here the next few days and then back to unseasonably warm. I have to replace a few light fixtures in the shop. I'm also going to add some.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Well, we're all home!  They released Mrs. PC today, though she's pretty jacked up on pain meds!

Thanks for all of the support everyone!

No we have to many playing with it trying to cut everything else they could here in the dinner heck if you don't watch it and we have one of those parties that flip and fergie are know to get a little crried away they'd start cutting the bottles open just to watch the bottle explod from the heat to see if the lazar could light the liquior and shoot the bottle like a rocket.

Here's an odd-ball SD40-2 I'm currently working on. It's still pretty rough.
