Good morning, Diners! Since Inch's buying, I'll have a cup of coffee and one of Bill T.'s chocolate donuts, please.

Thanks, Mike!

First frost of the season to scrape off the car's windshield today. Not too heavy, but dreading the thick of winter. Got to be looking for another place with covered carports, at least!

Paul, you realize that when they hit me with the Soc.Security out of my paycheck, I get less for my LHS trips, right? Shock [:O] Not sure that when I retire, if they'll still have anything left in the funds. Sigh [sigh]

Even though it was cold this morning when I got up (32 F/0 C), it's still supposed to warm up to mid 60's by this afternoon. Sheesh - this weather!

Well, I'd better get back to the grindstone. Working on a hospitalization this morning and need to check back with one place.

Prayers for those in need of healing, peace and strengthening. Angel [angel]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Morning folks!

Fall has finally arrived here with temps in the mid to upper 30's this morning and crystal clear blue skies too!

Another whirlwind weekend and it flew by so quickly too!

Went to the local Mexican restaurant Friday night to celebrate my soon to be birthday! Okay, I had to slip that in, but just to remind you folks I will be 46 on Wednesday!  Yes, I was born on Halloween!  I still have not taken off my mask....Ha!

Then Monique surprised us with getting some free tickets to the NC State vs. Virginia football game for Saturday, we had the pleasure of sitting in one of the suites at the 50 yard line and free food to boot too! It was a great game and lots of fun too!

And then yesterday we cleaned house and then Monique made some New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp with French bread too! It was fabulous and reminded us of the good eating from back home.

....and back to work today.....oh well....got to pay the bills you know...

No model railroading done this weekend, but have been reading the Dec MR issue and also got in Schrader's Railroad Catalog in the mail, never ordered from them but they sure do have some neat stuff. Anyone ever ordered stuff from Schrader's out of Fairview, Michigan?

Watched the WS game 4 through the top of the 7th inning and heard this morning that the Red Sox pulled it out with a 4-3 win over the Rockies and now WS 2007 champs! Congratulations Red Sox!

Hummmm.....it's about 9:00 AM EST and looks like the trains.com web site has gone down. Getting a page error "We're sorry, but the page you requested contains an error or no longer exists" I can get to the main pages of the site, but when attempting to get to the forums it is now giving an error in the title "Critical Error: SiteUrls.Config" 9:30 AM EST and still no service, now the whole site is down...Ah ha...9:45 AM EST and it is back up again...

Sue - glad you like the pits and the RH, thanks for noticing! And nice hill of trees you got there. I like that plan with a trail, some hikers, and campers, looking forward to seeing that progress.

Rob - good to hear that you got the shot, and so now no worries about that stuff. Nice pics too of the water tanks and your set up, looks good. Watched the Farmers Almanac on TV yesterday morning and they showed a similar cistern system on a new Idea House that holds up to 1,500 gals from rain water for similar uses.

Bet it felt good to get the paperwork done on Friday, eh Jim!

Paul - good news on the new tractor!

Der John - Sounds like a good plan with the talus and rock formations.

J.R. - Thanks for the answer on the backdrops, and they sure do look good there too! And I see you have found another use for clotheslines clips too!

Philip - Sorry to hear about the rescheduled date, but more time to prepare and more time for prayers too!

Dick - cut down a spruce tree eh, and 70' too boot! Oh, and I see two maples too! WOW, you guys really did save some money felling those trees yourself. Firewood for a while now eh! What about the spruce, can you burn that too, or is it too much sap to clog up the chimney like pine wood does? On the cholesterol topic, it's probably a combination of "all of the above" that contributed. That's a great deal on the solar panels, wish our utility did that kind of special down here too!

Jim - Great looking steak dinner and pumpkin pie you had there, oh and beef Stroganoff too!

RT - Nice you see you up and about again! How is the new job at the deli going? Oh, thanks for the update!

Jeff - Nice lights on the diesel, I need my sunglasses now! And you might not need any overhead lights once you outfit all the locos like that one.

Flip - All it took was Rob's coffee special to get you back in the diner?  Actually, I like my coffee with some cream and sugar, my vodka with a little cranberry juice, and my women straight! So 1 out a 3 isn't too bad, considering it's the one I like the most!

Mike - BNSF drag looking crisp!

Cheers,

Best gets round, got two girls with colds and hollering for train videos. Wasn't suppose to have any kids after Leroy caught the bus, but plans change. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe.

Tall cool glass of water is all. Thanks!

***JR, my only real issue is funding the "upgrades" without selling off the old. Would prefer to keep the old and add the new, but that could take a very very long time. Confused [%-)] Oh decisions!

***Paul, I'm just hoping there is enough hay around when I need it this winter. Usually we stock up, but this year haven't the funds to do so. I'm buying either two rounds or 22 squares once a week (depending what condition the hay is in) and bring it home in our pickup truck. Once every couple months we squeeze out having 6 rounds delivered to the farm. (I need a major painting to sell or this will continue through the winter...yikes)

***inch, thanks for posting the photos. Those BNSF sure are beautifully painted locos. I have a sneaking suspicion that one day some N scale versions are going to start showing up in my loco roster Whistling [:-^]...but no time soon.

Off to do my nightly critter check and see if I can spot that skunk that has been eating the dog food every few nights (at least I think that is what it is doing). Take care all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening,, a barley pop please Flo.

Not going to hang round long, I be kinda tired stiff and sore after our trip [282 mile]. Did get a few train pics from Girard. The first one is from Jamie's front yard, bout a block n half off the main line.

It was a BNSF coal drag coming through, so I walked down n got a couple more. Turn out it also had a pusher too

PC,, I understand now, me n the wife have snoring problems and her's is the worst. She heard the rubbing Vicks on the bottom of your feet helps with snoring last night, so I got up and got her a pair of socks and the Vicks. It didn't help much, she just snored louder.

FLIP,, to bad bout the twister down your way, glad no-one was killed.

RT,,, great ot hear from you and the grocery/deli job is the one I was talking bout. Train room is looking good and even if the layouts small, you still get to run one sometimes.

I headin out folks can't handle this chair anymore tonight. Hope ya'll has a gooden

Rob- I don't know! I've read somewhere, an hour at differant speeds and both forward and backwards. My main is about 44 feet around and I push a track cleaning car while it runs. So all in all after an hour or so, over a few days, I add the hoppers, 3 at a time. All in all I guess it has run for 2 hours or a bit more. Runs great. Just can't run it with other dc locos.

Time to hit the pillow. Darn, should have been in bed 45 minutes ago. Prayers for all.

R.T.- anyone wants to know whats up, they can E you. Warm regards.

Looking over recent posts, I see people are eating well in the diner.

Philip said surgery is delayed for his wife, and I hope that does not add to probleml

Jeff's headlight project is doing well, RT is on board and i'm glad for that. Paul has a new red tractor; neat!. fergies now buying 4-8-2's, and I'm glad I already have a couple of them.

Duke might get to the Gratiot Valley train show, And I'm not sure if I can at this point.

Happy Model Railroading!

Evening Gang: The field north of the creek is baled. we only got 40 bales but for this time of year it's gravy. The quality of the hay is real good. That new baler does a great job. The bales are tight and heavy. I ws talking to a MRR budy and he said that he and a friend were going to be working on his layout tomorrow all day. He is rebuilding it to remove a duck under and get a hidden track out to where he can get at it. He is also going to add a paninsula for more running room. I'll try and get over there and see what's going on.

Flip good to hear from you. Good thing that you missed the F-1. They really mess up a layout. If that happened you'd owe Fergie royalties.

RT. We've wondering about you. Drop in more often.

JimCG: Thanks for going to wooooo. You know that place that some of us don't go to anymore. We need a raise in our SS to buy for more MRR stuff.

We had a bit of a frost here a couple of days ago. I looked out over the neighbors field and it was white. As we were driving into Ft Worth I could see a fog bank way off in the distance. It looked really neat. I haven't seen that in a long time. I used to see that on Lake Michagan all the time.

Well I guess I'll say good night all

I have a Tomar Drumhead Kit for te C&O George Washington. It comes with that Ballast bulb to shift current off. But seeing as how the Spectrum car it's going into is already lighted, do I need the BigFrikken' light and or the resistors?

(I am sendignn them an e-mail, but I expect it to take a while)

Nice lights on that loco, may need to sell Sunglasses though. heehee

Just finishing up my dish of orange sherbet. Yum!

Jeff, thanks for the additional pics. I guess the downside of not having any current jobs for you is it limits your LHS purchases. So hopefully something else will turn up before long.

Dick, excellent job on the tree - you sure you don't sideline as a tree trimmer, or do you just have a lot of experience with other trees on your property? Good job, anyway. Oh, and Janie said there's more of that Stroganoff in the kitchen that she can get you. Dinner [dinner] Smile [:)]

Time for me to head out tonight. Tomorrow I have to go to work and earn the money for Dick and Paul and the rest of the ORF's. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Rob,

You probably answered your own question. The newer stuff is so much better in so many ways you almost have to upgrade. I keep scrambling around when New Haven stuff comes out and have retired most of my Athearns and all my Tyco stuff. Still have it in boxes and the Athearns will be used when I try my hand at detailing/weathering locomotives. Same with structure kits too. I keep looking at the better laser cut wood and more expensive stuff and have retired all my old kits one by one to the point that I was gripeing to Jerry the other day about the clunky window frames on the DPM kits and I only got those last year. The hobby is changing so much I suppose the only real question is how far do each of us want to go? J.R.

Good evening.......two of my sons came over today to give me a hand taking down the last two maple trees against the house that were dying due to "global warming?" or some other fungi due to excessive warm winters up here. The  biggest was 70 feet tall, 32" in girth and 10 feet from the SW corner of the house. Tree guys wanted $1200 to take it down. I figured that could buy a lot of MRR equipment, so son #1 climbed up the tree from a 20 foot ladder and tied off a 2" dia rope which we ran back to son #3's tractor 100 feet away. One hinge cut and one back cut along with two steel wedges and 5 minutes later we had a perfect fall directly inline with the tractor.....now we can relax, and we have two years supply of wood from these three trees.

ROB: The name on the info that they gave me was "SUNSINE" solar panels, they AC photovoltaic panel, the inverters are up on the panels, so AC is fed directly down to the house wiring via a meter that registers the amount of power that the panels are providing. As long as the sun is out, or, cloud cover is not too thick. the panels are making power. And, more panels can be added easily by just chaining them together at the plug-in connectors.

JIM: Stroganoff, one of my favorites !!!! Yum !!!

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Well, I suppose I'm guessing wrong, Jeff, since more experienced heads than mine don't think it looks that bright. My Oops [oops]...

It's bright alright. Have you ever looked into the light of an oncoming locomotive? (prototype, not model). It'll have you seeing spots afterwards.Wow!! [wow] As for how I get my modelling done more quickly than some others, I'm home all day. There's only one place in town where I can get work. Right now they have no contracts that I can work on, nor does it look like they'll be getting any soon.Eight Ball [8] On top of that, the carpenter retires in January and they don't have a replacement for him to train yet.Question [?] Not that I'm complaining, SS pays the bills so I don't have any problems there. There's just not much work that I can do without getting hurt in the process,Oops [oops] so I have a choice. I can watch soap operas {NOT!Censored [censored]} or I can surf the internet and work on the layout.Yeah!! [yeah]

Here's acouple more shots, just to stun you again.

refill, please & thanks.

***Flip, glad you didn't have to dance with the F1. Congrats on the BLI SD-40-2. Curious, how long does it take to safely "break-in" a loco before loading it up with lots of cars?

***Cul, J.R., thanks for the offer. I'll post the numbers & a photo of the bearings if I have no luck with the manufacture.

***Jeffrey, thanks for the info. Added it to my "notes".

I've decided to designate the Concor 4-8-4 S2 Northern to the Union Pacific passenger train, instead of the old Concor E8's. Was breaking in the S2 today and it runs quite nicely. This brings up yet more mental wrestling in the ol' noggin: Considering how beautiful some of the new E8 offerings are, and how toyish my old Concors look by comparison (molded on horns...yuck), I'm once again looking at selling off even more vintage stuff to put towards purchasing new. And then there is my old Concor SW1500 cow/calf set. That cow runs superbly, but doesn't begin to have the fine details of modern offerings. What would YOU guys do in my shoes?

Hey all not sure what job I was talking about last time but what I did end up with was I'm at a grocery store in the deli/bakery seeing thats where I have the most experiance its kinda fitting just wish the pay was. oh well time will tell. Not really interested in looking for another job but need more pay and this whole area doesn't pay well so it would mean I would have to travel to get decent job not interested in that either so guess I'm stuck right where I'm at lol.

It seems every time I come its to let you know more bad news so I'm staying away from that a coulple of you know and if it get told I'll let them.

other than that I'm doing okay heres some picks of some of my trainds on the shelves on the wall I put up hope to do one loop layout at the ceiling as it will be kinda small in O gauge but it will be fine it will be about 7' X 8' X 4' X 4' basicly my room is 7'X8' and the door into it is right up to the ceiling. So have to turn prior to it and give enough room for it to swing lol.

All right, Red Sox fans - do you think they'll sweep the Series? They've been doing all right so far, from what I've noticed. Thumbs Up [tup]

I haven't returned that bulldozer yet - think I will need it some more. Dead [xx(] Sometimes it wears me down a bit when I look at the clutter here. But I just need to start somewhere (anywhere), if it's gonna get done. Think I'll tackle the dining room table tonight and put away stuff from it. Yeah!! [yeah]

But first, dessert!

Oh yeah, Janie, a refill on the coffee, please. Thanks!

Won the first playoff game, which means we're going to play tommorow at 3:30, which means I get out of school at 1:45. I can live with that!

Good Afternoon All,

Just an unsweetened ice tea please. Don't want to spoil dinner you know. Watched the Giants game between/during chores. A little too close for my comfort but at least we didn't have a complete collapse like last year would have brought.

Rob - the bearings should have numbers etched/stamped on them. If you don't have any joy with the manufacture, get back to here and I can try to help. We go through this ll the time with old cars especially Italian ones as most of the O.E. bearings are now out of production and the numbers often don't cross reference.

Flip - glad the twister missed you. What do think of the wackos chasing the funnels in an armored van as on tv?

Tried something new to day to clamp up my iNpossible scale building. Scraps of aircraft square tubing and clothesline clips. Long as the CFO doesn't miss the clips I'm home free, no?

and another view of the clamp up - the two pieces of tube are not attached to each other

Hi Group!-Hey Rob, I like my coffee , women , and vodka straight.

Well nothing much has happened. F1 tornado about 1 mile from my home. Many homes damaged one women hurt by flying glass and a man taken to hospital because of possible heart attack. Got a BLI SD-40-2 with sound but it is NOT dcc. Cannot run it with my dc locos as it takes more voltage to get it started. However it runs great and pulls a ton. Oh, its FEC and I have it pulling 18 Walthers Ortner hoppers. Getting ready to add more cars to the consist and see how the loco does.

Duke- You know why bikers don't ride at night?                                       Roos.

OK, how do I keep finding my way to the top! Well, for you coffee fanatics, the capuchino/espresso/exotic coffee bar is now OPEN. The regular brew is naturally still available as well.

***Jeffrey, looks just like the REAL THING to me...blinding. What kind of bulbs are in there (specifics please)? Impressive!

***Mark, Congrats on the WIN!

Just spent the last 1 1/2 hours working to get two frozen ball bearing sets off the manure spreader. Most of that time was spent pulling a gear that was in the way (without a puller). Half a can of WD40 & a couple squished fingers later, it came flying off. Big Smile [:D] The company we bought it from doesn't make this model anymore, so hopefully they still supply parts. If not, I'll search for a large bearing company. Will need the spreader for winter when our two oldest mares will be hanging out in the barn more often.

***Jeffrey, does having the extra lights on that diesel light up the track when the lites are out? Looks cool!
