It was a nice day for railfanning after work today. I planted three trees to make the wife happy, then grabbed my camera and headed out. The pics aren't the greatest, but here's just a couple.

Hi Gang: Just a short note here. I had planned on getting my dues paid to several organizations that I belong to and maybe cleaning some guns. We were getting some rain all morning and I figured it would last through the afternoon. Well it stopped raining and the sun is out so I'll quick do a letter and enclose a check to the club in England and head out.
Oz: Good to hear from you.
I'll be back in tonight so you all take care.

I went to the LHS today and picked up a Kato ALCO RSC-2, an Athearn PB-2, a Santa Fe Canadian grain hopper, a 3-quart bag of dark green lichen, 4 bags of fine gray talus and 2 bags of WS fine turf (1 weeds and 1 burnt grass). Total cost $186.14I got the two locos 30% off! How's that for some dealing.

Howdy All...Clouded up here this morning with maybe some storms this afternoon...but its a little cooler we had to turn the A/C on last night....I'll have a plate just like Jeff's man that looks good....Thank You....Got the place to myself caregiver took Sallie to Effingham for Dr. appointment.she is getting a power chair too....Good news yesterday they got paper work for my new lift chair!! Gonna replace Ol' blue! This puppy is much bigger it has 3 motors instead of 2 they say I might get it as soon as Friday....You guys been talkin about your cars with big motors it won't seem so big to you younger folks but I learned to drive and took my drivers test in my Dads 1956 ford it had been a police car and had a 312 intercepter engine If I remember right the other Ford V 8's where around 280 and of course chevy had the 283..
Colby...Congrats on your Whos who but you should have included your a regular here at the Dinner!! haha
RT..Hope things are going better for you..You are in Sallie and I's prayers...
Well I got a LL FA with a NYC cab making laps I need to check you all have a good day...Jerry
Well here goes a second attempt at writing this!!!
Sea-mail tends to be a bit contrary at times especially when we can't get the cable to run freely off the drum. Some cable had to be respliced this morning as it got snagged on a passing Iceberg. Captain was none to happy with that as he missed the morning news. I may even loose you towards the end of the trip as we might run short by 50 miles or so (Sometimes depending on current, temps and sea swell we can make the wire streth a few extra miles.
Ah yes the pink loco thingy... Well John and Paukl I don't really get all cranked too much over it as it still brings a smile to us when we need it but... We are getting needy for something new and improved! Yes we should start thinking of new pranks. Mmmmmm. I'll have to sleep on this one. BTW nice pics John.
Dick and John: I'll ask somemore questions for you but I will tell you this they seem to be very interested in CO2 levels in the air and water column as we have a CO2 monitor mounted above the bridge.
Well I thought hard on the colour issue last night and sorry to say the yellow running boards are out as masking is too problematic. Besides These engines are work horses not entrants in a Beauty Queen contest! So it's my favourite colour again. Black with red trim, hubba hubba get use to it!
Anyway that's my speel for this a.m. and yes we did see Icebergs on the radar at just above 43N
Later All

Good morning everyone, just waiting for the wife to get back with the car so that I can deliver the rototiller shaft to the repair shop. Ohh OH, May 1st, RE taxes are due, so that means a stop at the Town Hall too.
DER JOHN: I was watching a BBC contradictory to Al Gore's book and movie on Global Warming, and that is where I received the info on the oceans giving off tons of CO2 when the waters warm too much. I have the website address if you want to see this BBC presentation, but it is 1 hour of viewing on your PC, so you would need to go to a location in NS that has hispeed internet capability. BTW, looking at the satellite data, it is 60F (15C) at Hudson Bay, you should be seeing some of this warmth by Sunday or Monday.
MIKE: There is no way that I can take that race off without causing damage to the interior of the drive shaft housing, as I don't have the tools to do it, and the owners manual doesn't cover changing out that bearing..RATS !!!!! The sage goes on. Hopefully he can pull it and replace it while I wait, but from the amount of equipment that he had waiting OUTSIDE his shop, never mind INSIDE, I'm not going to hold my breath.
PC: !!!!!! You ate Colby's pie that Cloe made special for him !!! LOL...... OUT TO THE WOODSHED WITH YOU !!!
OZ JIM: It's about time you showed up in the Diner, rumor has it you were trying out for the part of Crocodile Dundee.

That's definately a boat!
Sounds like your CHP Interceptor-powered car really drank the gas down. Had lower mileage than a lot of SUV's get today...
It'd pass anything but a gas station!
A quick good morning, Zoe - just one of Bill T.'s donuts and a go cup of joe, please. Thanks for paying, Jeff!
Colby - I missed your post earlier, but congrats on the honors (and ditto the others' comments on your accomplishment)! Do hang onto that letter for college, too. I would think on your loco that it looked more like an PA-1, as others said.
Good to hear you're still around, OzJim - you can get us caught up about what you've been up to this weekend. Any new railfanning?

Well, got to go for now. Think we may get some rain either tonight or tomorrow. They were saying this rain pattern will stick around a couple/three days, so Inch and Jerry, you may want to make sure your lawn's mowed today while it still can be.
Blessings and prayers,

And a side shot so you’ll know at once. Sorry about the focus, the camera said it was in focus on close up, but neither one looks sharp to me. I think it was Paul said PA1, and from your description of the long nose, that’s what I thought too, except I couldn’t remember the name. However, when I saw the photo of the SF loco in your shed, it didn’t look like a PA1 at all.

That old Polara was an ex-California high speed pursuit car. If you took it easy on the loud pedal it got about 8mpg. If you got crazy it was more like 2 or 3mpg. She was heavy though. Still had the bullet proof plating in the doors and everything. Had a CHP hopped up 440 Police Interceptor engine under that hood. You'd floor it and peel yourself out of the back seat!
Mornin, just coffee for now Zoe, I'll be eating with kids laters
Got most the yard work done for now anyway and the garden bout ready to plant. One more trip through it and start planting this evening, unless we get one of the spotty rain forecast for this afternoon.
JIM, was sure sorry to hear bout the Cards loss Sunday morning, their going to miss him, our thoughts do go out for his family and team.
COLBY,,, congrad on the award, it'll sure be a help in the future.

Evening Gang: The power went off at 8:15pm and was off for about an hour. Just one clap of thunder and poof. There are some storms west that are coming this way, so I will get this done and unplug.
Dick: So which 2-10-2 are you getting? I've got a Bachman and am happy with it. I will get a Life Like later when my favorite discounter gets them. I need to give him a call. That bearing may have been the culprit all along.
Ed: You should have told me that you were coming to San Antonio. It's a bit of a drive but Mary Ann and I could have headed there for a short vacation. Your bad.
Colby: Congrats on the letter. Very WELL DONE.
RT: Take care my friend. As they say " This too shall pass."
Der: Yup, I'm the one that ID it as an Alco PA-1. The nose and windows are definitely PA-1.
Yea Fergie may be getting tired of the pink thing but some of Mary Ann's cows are still blushing.
BobK: You asked about the outside railroad. It's not 1 to 1, altho the UP main line cuts our ranch in half. I've got a 7.5 inch gauge running on the place. I have both standard gauge at 1 5/8ths inch to the foot and narrow gauge at 4 inches to the foot. The narrow gauge is live steam model of a Kerr Stuart 0-4-0 tank locomotive. The standard gauge is an EMD TR-2 switcher. I've got about 1500 feet of main line down and will have about 1/2 mile when it's finished if it ever is. I do mow the UP right of way. They won't, so if we want to see what's coming when we craoo it I have to do it. We found out just last year the the UP dosen't own the land there tracks are on. We do. They have an easement. This could be interesting if they object to me mowing and clearing brush. I've tried to get them to send someone out to watch my back when I mow but they are short handed so I have to be very carefull.
Well I think that I'll get out of here before the storms get here.
Good Night All

Oh man! Is that what that was? I'm never going to live this one down! Don't worry, I'll take myself to the woodshed.
CapeJim: I thought we had buried that Teffy / Fergie loco colour business. I’m sure Fergie must be way past tired of it now, but is too much of a gent to tell us what he really would like to!
I know the Northeast has to be careful 'bout that...
Bill: Hope that stomach thing clears up for you soon. Not a great way to diet!
Dick:
I have heard that the ocean gives off more CO2 than the population of the earth ever can...very interesting statement by another scientist in England.
I see it’s bedtime again. So, Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Good Evening All,
Back from my trip up by Watertown to deliver a gearbox to one of my northern friends. Nice trip and I took the thruway back to do some train watching but didn't see but one (CSX) and it was headed the other way so no pic.
Colby - congrats and well done.
Speaking of picks you all have been busy. I haven't done much of late except try different combinations of paint to try to get a better concrete look than the WS stuff.
I'll be back tomorrow once I catch up with posts more. CUL,J.R.

I'm gonna be off the net for a little while. My computer crashed today and I had to reformat the hard drive. I'm in the process of re-installing everything. I had to come down to my parents place to get the Win98 IE6 Setup program.
FERGIE: Ask the scientist if the rise in temperature of the ocean causes the ocean to release more CO2. I have heard that the ocean gives off more CO2 than the population of the earth ever can...very interesting statement by another scientist in England.
MIKE: The shims came in, but when I took the rear of the shaft off, the bearing were falling out of the rear roller bearing set...NICE!!! S o now I am screwed because I have no way to drive off the retainer. So I am bringing the tiller mechanical section to the repair shop tomorrow.
It cleared off nicely this noontime, the winds are blowing hard from the NW, but the temp is a dry 65F, very comfortable. The weather forecasters are predicting at least 12 days of nice weather.... garden planting time !!!!
I was wondering if any of you guys in the Diner have heard from Mountain Tom ( Georgia ). They are having the worst forest fire in the history of Georgia. It has been very dry in the entire SE U.S., and the entire Okefinoki (SP) swamp is on fire. I think that Tom lives far enough away, but the fire is spreading every day.
Hey Fergie. I think the twins need some help with repainting the kitchen a certain COLOR. I'm not responsible for this post. talk to Cloe and Zoe about it.
Colby
Stopped in quick and couldn't help notice the great post from our Lewiston hero.
Colby, congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment. Should help with college applications too. I see your HS band and colorguard perform along with the others in competition NESBA.
Last season, my town of Weymouth, MA, hosted the NESBA championships and your school was there. I don't remember what the placing was only know that I talked with quite a few of the kids parents. Sounds like you live in a nice town.

Uh, oh... - for a minute there, Fergie, I forgot that you were talking about the question of the red and yellow trim or not. Had a minor flashback of Teffy's painting Fergie's loco a certain colour, and then of Teffy's house, and the mighty Lancaster dropping that major load of PINK paint onto it (the cows, the grass...) But luckily, you weren't talking about getting the Lancaster out of the hanger again, right Fergie? Fergie? You were talking about the engine colours, right?
Moral of the story - DON'T MESS(TM) with Fergie...
Not to much happening didn't go to work today as been still sick think I caught a flu as man did my bones hurt. Feeling a little better but still haven't eaten scince yesterday morning. (been afraid to )
Not much train items being done lately been going every which way but loose but hope to get back to it soon. take care all
oh chole I'll have another pink medicine again as still a little upset there in the stomach.
Good Afternoon All!
Colby: Well done and kudos!!!
Inch and Richard: Well it's all about temperature, currents, conductivity and salinaty. In other words whats happening in the deep blue sea. I had a chat with the Chief Scientist today to get a take on Global Warming and here's the basic scoop the sea temperature is on the rise as the Labrador current is warming up. as he put it the Water in the Labrador Sea has risen 1.0 celcius in the past 10 years. One degree doesn't seem like much until he told me "It's the equivalent of the air temperature going up 10.0 C. WOW!
Later all as it's supper time and I'm hungry
