Bob,

Yes, do it! Don't be shy, most of the time there is a lack of men and more single women at the lessons. Some of the "Big Dawgs" advanced group arrives early for the Intermediate lessons and fill in and dance with the single women so that they will have a learning pardner!

Not only is it great to get out and learn something new, but good exercise too. And on top of that we have meet many new friends in the process. And the best part is that we now go to some of the local taverns / dance halls and enjoy dancing the new steps we learned. Great fun!

Thoughts and prayers to all who are in need of health, wealth, and happiness!

Cheers,

Good morning everyone, the front came through overnight, it is only 61F with a Dew Point of 52F......nice dry air. No sun yet, the clearing line is still a few miles west of here.

BOBK: No sweating today Bob, you should really enjoy the next FIVE days in fact, all low humidity.

CAPE JIM: Canon Printer huh !!!! That is why we use HP. LOL

JEFF: Sorry to hear about Mom's liver damage. Do the doctors feel that her liver can regenerate?

How many of you guys were able to watch the History Channel last night? The Boneyard was on at 9, 10 central time, and was all about railroads. It was amassing to see the things that the scrappers can do.

Time to go the wife says, grocery shopping to do...see you guys at lunch.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good Morning - cup of coffee and a ham, egg & cheese croissant, please, Zoe. Thanks!

Oh yeah, don't want to forget some of Ed's OJ, too.

We're supposed to have some chance of rain (bit more of a chance) today - we'll see.

JR, good to hear from you again. Good that your driver is recuperating from the accident. I imagine you haven't had time to get to your layout, with as much time out on the race circuit as you've been spending, though. Getting your 'groundwork' done on the layout, huh? Wink [;)]

Jerry, it sounds like you've been making good progress - you have me wanting to see some pics on your mine, too. Can you fire up the camera this weekend?

Jeff, now that they know about the liver damage, sure hope they will do all they can to ease things for her and minimize its effects. Thanks for keeping us informed on her, and remember to take care of yourself, too.

Dave, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to the Diner - how've you been doing?

I am planning on getting the dining room table cleared off and get some hoppers assembled this weekend. Possibly I'll make some coal loads for some of the hoppers, if I have time. Want to get some means of taking pics again soon. The camera I had (Polaroid 35mm.) had too many 'little' glitches to be usable, so I trashed it. Problem is, right now I need to watch the My 2 cents [2c]My 2 cents [2c], so the camera or most new purchases will be on hold. But what I already have, I can work on.

Better get myself going. Everyone take care and dodge any thunderstorms in your area, if you'll be having them. Prayers going out for all the family members (and Diners) with health needs, and for comfort as well.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

You should see what happens to particle board and untreated plywood down here when they're not stored properly. It gives a whole new definition to water damage!

Good Morning All,

A regular and a blueberry bagel please Zoe. I'll just sit here in the back corner and try to catch up on a months posts.

Jeff - sorry to hear your mom's still ailing - she remains in our prayers.

Finally called enough and stayed home from Mid Ohio to try to catch up on the shop load of gearboxes I need to get done. Plus a couple of other small projects I have been putting off for other customers. If possible this is the second weekend of the museums big fund raiser with the Little Engine That Could mock up out of Strassburg(sp?) so if I can I'll put some time in there as well.

The last few weekends were a blur, but Mosport was a real bummer. Nice weather, but two problem motors (we don't do the motors) and one of my drivers crashed in someone elses' mess and ended up in hospital with a concussion but thank God no other injuries. We all know racing can be dangerous, but we've only had a couple of wrecks out of here in the time we've been open and this was a big one - wrote the car off. At any rate the driver - Bob Baker is doing well now and is back in Idaho recuperating. At 77 he's still a tough old bird but I think he'll be a couple of weeks before he gets back behnd the wheel of a race car (though he's already making plans).

Spent last evening mixing plaster, celluclay paint and ballast to mud up some bare areas on my layout. Nice relaxing mindless work. Once I finish off the "earth" I'll add ground cover and debris and then finally the trims and fascia between levels so I can get ready to scenic the lower level.

Well time to stop holding up the line at the register and shuffle off to race car world. I'll check in later. Cheers, J.R.

It turns out that she has extensive liver damage, on top of other things.

Bob,  Glad you stop by regularly to share what is going on with your life.  We are here for you.  We seldom have your humidity.  It was a little muggy at the rock gym last night. It tends to get quite hot near the ceiling.  I am sure that it was not as bad as down your way.

Layout wish, we have been running in different directions.  I will probably start weathering herefords again.  Everyone seems to think that I a crazy, but they are just too white to be natural for me.  Larry is getting ready to start the bridgedeck for the second tressle, but he can't do much until I get the lay of the land.

Philip,  I am glad to hear that you are getting some track down.  I have not seen any photos since you were working on your benchwork.  What gives?  Please share.

Pssst! PC! Did you notice that Bob K.'s computer hiccupped and double-posted for him? So if you sweet-talk him into deleting the duplicate post, you won't have the TOP...Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] (...and guess who gets the TOP then...?)

Bob K., good photo of the Geeps (and the club layout) - and Chessie's not even one of my favorite roads! Wink [;)] Maybe the support and/or dancing group might be a help for you. That, and a lot of Angel [angel]Angel [angel]Angel [angel] from the crew in the Diner.

I'm a bit frustrated with my Canon printer (or more exactly, with their designers) - dang ink tanks are too small, and if one of the color tanks runs out, the printer/software won't even let me print black-and-white documents. Banged Head [banghead] I wrote an email to Canon earlier tonight to let them know what I think about the design (and limitations). Plus the smaller tanks cost $18 each - Black Eye [B)] Censored [censored] dang designers... Oh yeah, after I ran by the store and picked up magenta and yellow ink tanks and installed them at home, the thing tells me I also need a cyan tank (and the store's closed now)! (mutter, mutter...) Sigh [sigh]

Well, news is on, so time to start getting ready for bed. Glad tomorrow is Friday!

Bob K.,

I'm sorry to hear your having a tough time.  You need to know that we here grieve with you.  You've suffered a terrible loss, and you need others around you.  Stop in here any time, and find some people to be around in your town.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been laying track like a madman today!  Matter of fact, I've been doing it all week!  I've almost got the mainline of the class 1 finished, and the staging yard isn't far behind!

EDIT:  RATS!  Top of the page again!  Chloe, is my credit card still back there?  What do you mean, "It's ashes"?  You mean it got so hot from overuse last time that it just self combusted?  That's incredible!  Look, here's a couple of $20's to hold you til I get back from the bank, OK?

Just had to stop in, haven't been here in a while.

Thought I was feeling a bit down these days, but so many of our fellow diners really need our prayers.

Jeff: I do hope the new hospital helps for your mom. Has anyone actually found the problem? In a way it's good that you were so busy at work, I also found that keeping busy does help somewhat. If I let my mind wander a little instead of concentrating on all the measurments and cuts, I will be thinking of April. Try to keep your spirits up and we are praying for you and mom.

Luc: Sorry to hear about Gloria. Normally knee surgery is common and nothing to fear, but her heart condition does cause some concern. I hope things work out. You and Gloria are in my prayers.

Duke: Those are some great pics.

Brandon: Welcome, I don't do CSX, My modeling stops with Chessie. You may have some of the same power only the Chessie paint is only underneath. CSX is still running these 3 SD50s

Colby: Thanks for the heads up on the History Channel Train boneyard.

Philip: Congrats on a successful decoder install in your 2-8-0. I have installed many Digitrax decoders but only in HO, I don't know if I want to tackle N scale ones. This may give you the push to get that yard done now.

Cheese: Nice to see you back, was starting to miss some of your little friends in them crazy pics.

der: I see what you mean about Photobucket, I was moving some pics around making folders, and it was changed midstream. I don't know if it's the new format of the rearranging I did, but the links are different on some of my older posted pics.

Ed: Sounds like a nice trip so far. So you're heading further north, You shure do get around. Now I know why you don't seem to have the time on the layout. Have a safe trip.

Jim: Hope all the hassles of the club move turn out in your favor. So now you can relax in the AC comfort. Normaly, the weather here on the ocean isn't too bad, but when that humididy kicks in like the past few days it's brutal. No AC at my work, just dripping and soaked while trying to keep the finish woodwork dry. Got to watch those slippery tools.

Paul: I never knew it rained that much in TX. My sister and mother live in Round Rock outside of Austin. I know it gets darn hot there. My brother got caught in a hail storm w/ his new Tahoe- what a mess: looked like he left it at a driving range for a week. I guess we all get our share of whacky weather. Here in the Northeast we get Hurricanes, 'Noreasters, some wild tides, crazy wind storms but not really tornados and that dreaded "white stuff" and blizzards.

Dick: The weather here has been bad with the heat and humidity lately. Been working in Lexington for a few weeks. Beautiful addition to an already georgous house. Its a kitchen, 2 bath and master suite job. Another great customer, they love the victorian and the new addition is being done the same. I have been installing all the matching woodwork and hanging the antique doors and fireplace. Love a challenge, but working with those old doors can be a bit much. It was so humid yesterday and today, I thought I'd have to quit. The sweat was pooling on the floor under me and soaking even my tools. The cordless even slipped right out of my hands. Reminds me of a time when I worked for and old Italian carpenter, we were doing red oak stairs and nosings. I was sweating so bad- He hollered at me  "NO SWEATING ON THE HOAK" Actually it was funny, we both were miserable and the sweat stains were everywhere on the wood. So I think we're going to get a break from this stuff, I do need it. Keep that cool spot handy just in case.

CSX guy: You're making me jealous, Off the Yellowstone, what a great trip. Next to Yosemite and Hiking the Grand Canyon  that's right up there with the best. I think it's probably the most unique of any of the National Parks though. When I was in the Navy (a million years ago) I used to take my 30 days leave and always did a road trip- National park to National park accross the country. I pretty much kept up the tradition until having the kids. Then you can olny do short versions and the occasional "Big trip" every 4-5 years. For quite a while, I spent every Thanksgiving hiking the south rim trails of the Grand Canyon. Thanksgiving dinner was at Rods Steak House in Flagstaff - Not a bad feed either. Have a great trip, take lots of pics.

Fergie: It's nice to hear the seas are calm for this trip. Make for a steadier hand for those off time modeling sessions.

Sue: So what's on the agenda for layout work these days? You do seem to keep yourself rather busy. I'm surprised you find time for the layout at all.

Jerry: You do know we're all waiting to see those pics of the mine. How much more still to do?

Ryan: When I read your posts about the dancing, it makes me want to try it. I've been really contemplating needing a loss support group of sorts these days. April always wanted to do the dance lessons, I wonder if it would be good therapy for me.

Well I had so much catch up to do, I know I forgot someone. I still can't find the desire to get back into modeling. Six WM F units and 2 Chessie GP40s are still in the same spot since before my wife passed away. I just go down to the workbench and  look at them. The guys at the club are great companions and are there for me. I know that they would want me to get back into the scenery mode, but my heart still isn't there yet. I don't mind plugging away at the job- getting lost in the project- I can do the finish work like second nature after 30 years of doing it, but the creativity of the scenery really takes your heart for an outstanding job.

I haven't heard anything from Michael and Kim. I have noticed some hit and run from him on the main page. They're both probably feeling just as bad as I am, so it's no wonder.

Been real quiet around the house these days. My youngest is off on tour with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps. They wrap up the trip with the finals in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The other 2 are working or off with friends. Never thought I would feel so bad and lonely, That feeling you always have toward the end of the day. Like a need to get home, well it hit me, that feeling is gone now. Something that never bothered me for the last couple of months is starting to almost haunt me. It is the day I watched April pass before my eyes and take her last breath. I did have that absolutely beautiful goodby just 15-20 minutes before, but to watch her slip away is really hurting. I guess I do need a loss support group or just get out and do the dance thing like April wanted to do.

Have a nice evening everyone,

Good evening ....we dodged another bullet today, all the storms passed North and South of us once again and I am not complaining. I do not like lightening.

Had a successful trip to the favorite LHS, good conversation with the owner, Robert Buck, and, I picked up 2 locos, an Atlas Alco RS-1 ( New Haven ) and an Athearn RS-3 Boston & Maine. Then it was off to Palmer RR Station for lunch. No action today, not one train came through the Diamond on the Main line east/west. The north/south line had action though, two New England Central Diesels were ready to pull out with a freight and tanker consist.

COLBY: Thanks for the reminder on watching the HISTORY CHANNEL tonight at 9 EDST, I almost forgot...headed there now, see you guys later.

Inch

St. Lou,. We may have to slip over there and check that place out.
It would be well worth the trip and there was quite a bit that I didn't take pics of. They have a couple 4-4-0's from the late 1800's as well as Pullmans and other coaches and for the price you can't beat it. It was $4 or $6 to get in but with my short memory I am not sure.

That's about it

Do you think that a root beer float would go with Chilli and cornbread?  I hope that you all saved me some.  You know how we run a little later than you.

Afternoon all, I'll have barley pop Zoe, yes I know it's kinda early, but it's after 5 somewhere.

Still got rain forecast for the rest of today, but suppose to be nice tomorrow and the weekend. I'm sure glad, this weather had me down.

Only one kid today and he's 12 so not much trouble. Did get some time on the layout this morning and finished getting the ground cover down on the hill, still some trees n bushes to do, then I can move on to the next one and the next. Once I get the area between the main line and the backdrop done, it's on to other things.

Luc,, we've been keeping you and Gloria in our thoughts.

JEFF, hope your mom is doing better in the new hospital, and the desk job is over. Sounds like you could use a rest.

Duke, some more good pics from St. Lou,. We may have to slip over there and check that place out.

OZ, looks like your making good progress there too.

Suppose to go into the fair tonight for the barnyard scramble, Mac's chasing pigs and J Bird's going after chickens, n with all the rain it'll be a muddy mess. Best gets going on to other things, hope ya'll has a gooden

Another round of dance lessons last night! We learned the "Cha-Cha", the "Sugar Foot", and the "Courtney"! Then we practiced the "And 4", the "Stutter Step", and the "Daddy Rabbit" great fun and exercise wrapped into one!

Taking off work early today, my folks are flying in this afternoon and then I am off for the weekend! Yeah!

Just finished my Swing Gate - an alternative to the duck under tutorial - Part I and posted it on the web site.

Hey PC step away from the Cinnamon rolls and no one gets hurt. For I am the master of ka-chuck. Waaaaaa!!!! (shotgun comes out) *Ka-chuck* (sound of shotgun being loaded).

If you'll very kindly hand over the rolls now. You don't want to mess with a 14 year old fresh out of a 9 hour mini-hibernation and looking for food. Do ya?

ANOUNCEMENT EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Tonight at 9pm est, 8pm cst, 7pm mst, 6pm pst. The HISTORY CHANNEL WILL HAVE A SHOW ON CALLED "BONEYARDS, RAILROADS" IT'S A MUST WATCH!!!

I have movies to show later today.

Looks like a hot, sticky day down your way today Jeff!

We've got it a bit different here.

A cold front will move slowly through the state today generating numerous showers and thunderstorms. A couple of the storms may contain gusty winds and very heavy rain. The best threat for significant rain will be across the central and southern portion of the state as some areas may receive 1" to 2" of rain by late this evening. The showers should move out by late tonight.

After a wet Thursday, high pressure will clear our skies early Friday morning setting the stage for a great weekend. Temperatures will be very nice with highs near 80 degrees and lower humidity. A quick look at the long range maps indicate that the heat and humidity will build back in during the first half of next week.

Here's the weather as it looks right now...........

Lots of folks out there in need of prayer.  Just to let you know, I've stopped in from time to time the last couple of days and I've kept up with all thats going on even though I haven't posted much.  There are some very serious prayer requests out there and I've remembered them and prayed for you all.

Glad the A/C is working Jim!  BTW, I don't think those cinnamon rolls are on your diet.  I'd better take those off of your hands for you. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Coffee and cinnamon rolls, please.  Are we meeting at the corner table?

I will be raining or misting today.  I think that I will head out to feed the animals before it starts. I will have a quick trip to town this morning but will hopefully get some layout time this afternoon.

Later, Sue
