Nice work Jeff! I need to get brave and try that decal thing. I bought all the stuff but have not tried it yet.

I see we have almost the same scenery, I have a Latex paint can as the main focal point with screwdrivers and wire cutters for details!! I have to try the funnel out, a Little tin man from Alice in Wonderland comes to mind.

Jeff, great job on the decaling, it never ceases to amaze me the difference a little personalizing can make.

Just to let you know what I've been up to lately, I've been doing a bit of paint work today. Sorry about the blurry pics. My camera sucks!

Before trim work and decaling.

And after.

Gp, Thank You so much for your prayers and concern, As this is not a religios site we need to show care not to upset of offend those who may not share our faith but on the other hand it is good to be open and loving as I believe Christ would do. Once again it does my heart good to know there are others who not only share the greatest hobby ever but also share a like faith as well.

Lisa:

I have been silently following this thread and the previous thread "Some times I feel so..." and saw your request. My wife and I prayed last night and will continue to pray for you and your husband.

Dick, That's what I read as well but I listed the best and worst case, I realize there are levels in between, I'm trying not to think about it to much until we go to the dermitologist. They will most likely call for more testing both of the area that was biopsied as well as the nodes near the site. Tom is handling things the way he usually does, denial until he has something concrete, I wish I was better at that but I'm a worrier. We're still moving forward on the house situation as if nothing else is going on which is a good thing because it gives us something else to think about. We found that we're caught in a waiting game with my MILs house since it looks like we have no way out of the realters contract, which will be over in June. We're not sure how we should proceed, Tom wants to get our house ready and list it but I'm nervous about it because what if someone comes along and is willing to buy the MILs house at full asking price, we could end up without a place. I know I worry tooooo much!!

Lisa, there are three levels of skin cancer, the 3rd is the deepest and most dangerous, it is called Melanoma. The other two levels are Basal and Squamus (sp) and are very curable. Hopefully the abnormality is only 1st level which is the most common.

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask you all to keep Tom and I in your thoughts and prayers(if you are the praying type) Tom had a mole removed back in Dec. to be biopsied, we received the results on Fri. and it came back abnormal. I'm not sure if that means what I think it means but he is going to see the dermitologist a week from Wed. From what I have read this probably means malignant melenoma, best case seniario more surgery and yearly testing to make sure it doesn't come back, worst case it is in the nodes and....I don't want to think about it. I know it is in the hands of one greater than myself but it still worries me, there have been so many people in my life that cancer has affected and I don't want anything to happen to my Tom.

Well, it looks like Larry will make it home on Saturday after all.  I promised him that I would get things caught up so we can glue in the rickety bridge.  That means that I need to get the curtain up on the window side of the layout.   I think that I will use upholstery tacks.

I am working on tree trunks for large cedar and fir trees.  We thought that we should have a couple larger ones in the forest on top.  He is anxious to see some trees up on top.

Evening all,

Dick, I wasn't able to make it out to Springfield, alot going on lately (not train related either, to bad)

Sue, Yea between doing school with the boys and working on the house to get it ready to put on the market, not to mention the minor injuries and sicknesses, I haven't had a lot of time for the computer but now that everyones well(Knock on wood) and my back is feeling better(for now), I should at least be able to stop in once a day.

As I said previously a friend gave my boys an N scale engine and a couple of cars so of course they want me to plan a track for them and with the possible move coming up I told them I would. The room down stairs has enought room that I'm planning on taking about half for my trains and the boys get the other half for their play room well that room has a wide shelf that runs a long three walls so I told the boys that I would build them a shelf layout, of course the wanted a tunnel like mom's, so I made a recycled project-I foud a box that had perfect arches cut into it, you would have thought that they cut the holes especialy for N scale. I covered it with left over pieces of foam(from my last project) and carved a mountain. I don't want to put a lot of money into it unless they show consistant interest but I am willing to scratch build them what ever I am able to, at least until we move then I've got a layout of my own to finish (go thing I had the forsight to build it with wheels, so it can come with me as is with out damage), see you all later.

George,  The only RH & TT in our area besides Tacoma, is in Shelton at Simpson Timber.  It is still operating.  I have a friend who thinks that he can get us in to look at it.Yeah!! [yeah]

Our train show weekend on Feb 17/18 is filling up with other things.  One of my Dad's partners (who is like a big brother to me) is retiring which means that we will have to be very efficient with Saturday.  We have been invited to attend an open house at a local modelers home.  We may stay in Portland on Friday night to reduce the driving.

Lisa,  We miss your regular visits.  You must not have as much computer time as you did.  I will back on my work schedule next week so my time will be reduced.

Later,  Sue

Nice job on the valentine's day present.  I think that I will save the effort for the train show in Portland on the 17/18.

You have inspired me to come up with the names for all of our destinations on the layout.  Did you come up with those in the design stage?

Sue

Sue I cheated, I got a map of the area that the CNJ ran in Pa and picked some of the names that fit the idea. If I was SMART I would have reasearched more and tried to model the EXACT towns at the railheads. Why? It would have been cheaper since I would have bought just the buildings that I neede (not 132 that I have) and the scene design would have been a no brainer, make it like the picture. Free lance is good but when you are juggling time coming up with the settings for each buidling will drive you nuts!

Hope you find some good stuff at the show. I am going to one in Atlanta, I think, if I am not at a car show.

Dragging feet?  I don't know anything about that!  (I haven't done much the last few weeks)

How are you doing with your layout?  How about some update photos of your work?

Not much to show right now, but the wife just left for Florida for 2-3 weeks, so I foresee great things in the very near future!

Sometimes we think about N and think "Could you imagine larger sweeping curves".  I find HO is plenty small.  On some tiny projects, I use my loupes from work.

Thats what hooked me.  Well, that and the fact that the buildings are about half the size so you can make a city look like a CITY!

LISA, great news on your new house. We have a split level also, and that really gives you a nice lower level for space. A few tips, if you haven't already thought about it....watch out where you place your layout. Makse sure that you don't construct it under utilities that can leak, or utilities that you may have to get to in the ceiling for repairs or maintenance. Some people who have table layouts, have placed them on wheels so that the layout can be rolled out from the wall for easy access to plumbing/electrical repairs. Leaking water pipes, or sweating cold water pipes in the humid summer will raise havoc with your layout underneith.

Did you get to the train show in West Springfield, Ma this past weekend? It was very crowded but well worth the trip, we were there on Saturday.

Jim,  As you know white is not really white in the animal kingdom.  For springtime, some mud is also a great idea.

Philip,  Thanks, I have been dragging my feet on the trees.  Once they are down, access is limited.  My drizzle of a waterfall will probably need another layer of water effects.  How are you doing with your layout?  How about some update photos of your work?   Sometimes we think about N and think "Could you imagine larger sweeping curves".  I find HO is plenty small.  On some tiny projects, I use my loupes from work.

Lisa,

What great news on the plans for the new home.Yeah!! [yeah]  We all like moving forward.  The WP & Y will be fun to model.  That should be easy to research, and there should be lots of chances for humor spots.  How great to be actually warm, or cool as the case may be.

I am working on a little corner of our layout.  I actually poured some water and water effects.  Yesterday, I put in some trees and bushes.  I am working on clothes to hang on the bushes.  Paper seems stiff, but it is a start.  If I can get that done, we can put up the rickety bridge permanently and place some track.

Great news on the new house and a genuine, indoor layout room.  Almost as good as indoor plumbing, huh?  Of course, if you're modelling 1900 then you'll be right back to the outhouses.

I live in one of those Houses of Estrogen, myself.  Officially just me, the wife and teenage daughter, but that means lots of other teenage girls, too.  (Yeah, we really do love being the house where they want to hang it.  Is it us, or the fridge with Dove Bars?)

This weekend, we were up north skiing with some friends.  The condo has two bathrooms, and I was looking for my daughter.  I found one bathroom locked, and then the other, where I found my girl.  But then I looked around and said, "Wait a minute, Annie's in that one, and you're all out here.  Who's in the other bathroom."

"Oh, that's Julie."

"Julie?  Who's Julie!?!"

Sometimes, they just come with the territory.

Skiing in New England, at least where they've been making snow, is absolutely fantastic.  Even with an almost snow-free winter, technology can give us an awful lot of snow.

Lisap,

Good luck with your new house and the under-the-weather male members of your household.  My wife occasionally observes that the "men" in the house (that's me) always seem to completely lose their ability to function when they get the sniffles, while the "women" (that's her) continue to work the rock pile with multiple broken limbs, fever exceeding 110°, and her water about to break........I think she's exaggerating, after all, you can't have more than four broken limbs.

The WP&Y is one of those sites I'd like to visit, after having seen it on Tracks Ahead last year.   I can imagine it will be a real hoot to model.

Yea, I figure first things first-1. get the house sold 2-get the move over with 3-finish my New England layout 4- begin my dream layout. I've done some planning already on which sections I want to cover, the track plan will be fairly easy as it's just a straight run up and back, I need to do a little more research  as to the stations on each end, I would like to stay as true to the route and era as I can so I've been doing research on the actual route as it was in 1900 or so, I'd like to capture as much realism from when it first began it's run. I may have to switch to N scale in order to fit all that I want into my layout and I may switch to digital control as well, who knows one step at a time.

My sons wanted to share about a gift they received Sunday, some friends gave them an N scale engine, a box car and a logging car, low quality but they where happy about it, I'm just not sure how long the engine will last and I'll need to get them some track nothing big at least until we move.

Another good thing about moving is they have DSL in Exeter so I'll be able to post pics.without waiting all day(the reason I don't post them now). Enough for now, see you all later.
