Maybe not the best time of the year to visit from the sounds of it. It just looks like a really neat country to visit, and my wife can visit her "roots". Appearances are deceptive, is all I'm saying. I hate the place, from the bottom of my heart. Every sordid square mile of it.

That sounds a little dissappointing. I was hoping that it would be a nice place to go on holiday.
Westchester County, NY - just outside New York City. New York Central and New Haven RR territory. Home to the abandoned Putnam Division and my favorite Senator, Hillary Clinton. NOT!
Did you know....the famous Rockefellers had the Putnam Division re-routed off their estate in 1931 relocating over 150 families and eliminating 3 stations? Must be nice to be rich!!
Agamemnon wrote:I see. It's actually rather dismal here in Christmastime, dark, cold and more often than not, raining (water, that is). To add insult to injury is the neighborhood habit of stringing epilepsy-inducing christmas lights at every godsdamned tree, bush, lamppost or twig along our street. I suppose it's ironic that I should hate wintertime, being born to a country with a copious supply thereof.

Sorry about that. That seems to be something the Fins in the Upper Peninsula of Michagan came up with. Heiki Lunta is the "snow god", and supposedly there is a dance you can do to bring on the snow. I wasn't sure if anybody from that area would catch that or not. My wife is of Finnish decent (she is from Ishpeming, MI). I have been wanting to take her to Finland, but am waiting to see where the Air Force is going to send us next. I would love to go there during the Christmas season.

As my profile says, Colorful (but drought dry) Colorado. I am one of the few people of my age who are natives of the state. In the last 10 years we've been overrun by people from California & the East coast. Pitty they don't want to move here and become Coloradians, they expect Colorado to become LA or NYC.
