Train show THIS weekend: NE Ohio
Posted by tstage on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 11:37 AM
FYI: For anyone interested

What: NMRA Division #4 Train show

When: Saturday, October 7th - 10:00AM-5:00 PM
          Sunday, October 8th - 11:00AM-4:00 PM

Where: Cuyahoga Co. (Berea) Fairgrounds
           164 Eastland Road
           Berea, OH
           (440) 243-0090

Directions

Anyone going?  I went last year and thought it very good.  A few of the manufacturers at last year's show were Marklin, Tichy, and Funaro & Camerlengo.  Looks like Marklin will be there again this year.  F & C is usually there every year.

Tom,

Thanks for the heads-up. I forgot about the show altogether. I'll be going if I can pry a few hours loose on Saturday. I might even take my grandson along.

Thanks again.

Remember its your railroad

That show is IMHO THE BEST in the Northern Ohio area..Alas I won't be able to go because of my driving restrictions and none of the club members or personal friends are going..Sigh [sigh]

Tom

Thanks for posting information on this show. I think my wife and I will take a ride up there on Saturday. It should only take about 2 and a half hours to get there from Pittsburgh and looks easy to find. Nice time of year to enjoy the scenery too.

Perhaps I'll be able to make this as well...

(I hope I don't get too much homework....)

does anyone know what it costs to get in?

EDIT: nevermind, found it on the fairgrounds site... $5 isn't that bad

Just like last time. Smile [:)]  Actually, my wife may accompany me to the show this year.  That'll keep me out of trouble.  I hope that big N-scale layout is there again this time.  That was quite impressive.

My wife will be in tow also.  Is it worth bringing my camera for any pictures of the layouts ?

Sounds like this is going to be a good show... now if I can get through today without getting homework piled on me, I'm going to be able to make it as well Big Smile [:D]

Laugh [(-D] Actually, I'll have my own "lunch money" for the show.  I went last year and only paid for the price of the ticket to get in.  It's just fun to look around, see what's available, and get ideas for my layout.

Jeff,

Yes.  If you have a small camera that you can just stick in your pocket, I'd bring one along.  I may do that myself.

Just got back from the show - picked up some nice (well, to me) loot.

I got some of the photos that were being sold in the building where the N/HO/Lionel sets were being raffled off (erm, i think that was Building 20)

Also got a Mantua 0-4-0 for pretty cheap... its gonna need some work though...

I drove up from Pittsburgh and got there a around noon. An easy drive too. I thought it was a pretty good train show, especially the club layouts. Some very nice work there. Also picked up a couple of items at a decent price. I'll be back next year.

My wife and I also made the show, got there around 1pm.  Enjoyed the Marklin display as well as the beautiful layouts.  Picked up some German industrail kits for my Marklin layout as well as some parts.  We will definatly be back next year.   As a reminder, the Erie, PA show at Rainbow Gardens will be the first sunday in November this year, I will have my Marklin M track layout there as it stands right now.    Cheers   Mike

My wife and I helped some friends from church move in the morning so I didn't get to the show till after 2 PM and stayed till near closing.  It was very similar to last year's, with a number of the vendors and club layouts in the exact same spots.  Funaro & Camerlengo and Marklin were there but Tichy wasn't this time.

I thought it was a good show again.  Saw a few good deals that I was tempted to pounce on but didn't:
  • BLI Erie SW7 - $58.44 (w/o sound)
  • Trix 2-8-2 Mike - $199.00 (only UP, no NYC)
  • F & C 40' gondolas (BOGOs or Buy one, get one free)
I did splurge: Spent a whopping $3.25 on a New York Central pin.  Even so, I still enjoyed myself.

I saw the BLI as well... though it was just a bit out of my price range.. oh well...

The model shop (the name excapes me at the moment) in building D had a LOT of things - almost bought a Mantua Mike from them as well, though it ended up coming down to buy the mike and not have any money for anything else, which would have not gone over too well... especially since I wanted to buy most everything I saw (good thing a lot of the dealers don't take plastic... and the ones that did didn't have anything I wanted....

Got there about 11:00 today and left just before Tom got there.  I agree that it was a nice show.  I went to the Dupage Fairgrounds show in Wheaton last month and this show was definetly better.  I picked up a 5 unit Well car set for 10% off, some Boley dump trucks at 50% off and finally joined the NMRA at $18 off the normal price.  I passed on two Atlas Dash 8s with DCC and sound (a first for me).  There was a nice crowd and it appeared a lot of folks were buying as well as looking.  It was the best show I've been at for finding less mainstream landscaping stuff.  I picked up lots of things like dumpsters, wooden crates, barrels etc.  I consider those finishing touch items for a scene.
