Morning all, Joe, Just bring me a couple of flap jacks and some black coffee.

I see everyone went home early last night. We didn't get much of a storm, so I was running my steamer for a while last night.

I took these pics and thought Joe might like to start a wall of pics somewhere in the Barn, anyway here they are, do what you want with them.

Here you see the giant Iguana decending from the mountain for his evenging feeding.

Here you see the cave that Big Foot lives in. (This is a very rare pic, never before been photographed)  If you look closely (Behind the dead tree) You might get a glimps of Big Foot in person.

I might to have to have another pill and lay down for a while as my back is not doing well this morning.  Have a good weekend.  See you all later.    Mike

Evening all, Joe....Well if that isn't service, had my beer on the way when I came in.  Thanks.

I did have the MRI done today, won't know anything til Mon. or Tues. They ask if I had ever gotten metal in my eyes and when I told them I had several times in the past, they took me down for X rays of my eyes. Then back to the MRI. I wasn' liking going into the small tunnel as I am clostriphobic (SP?) but all went well, now to wait til next week.  He said the electro magnet in the MRI machine would pull a pipe wrench through a piece of 3/4 inch plywood, How's that for an uncupling magnet?

Sue, I took some pics of some little things on the layout and will post them here maybe tomarrow, I can already see I am going to like the new Tripod. I might get to sell a new engine tomarrow and if I do I am thinking of getting a new digital camera. I was looking at them at Wally World today and they have some really nice ones for $200 or less. I want one that I can take close-ups with, I got the one I am using now at Wally World probley 4 or 5 years ago and paid like $350 for it. I was amazed at how the prices arg comming down.

Joe, set us up with another round, this one is on me.  I am out to the train room for now, There is a storm comming up from the West that might get pretty bad. I'll run some trains til then.       Mike

Another round of Strumpet Pale, if you please, Joe.  Oktoberfest in Moose Bay is approaching, and the brewery has to make room for the fresh-hops dark batches next month.  So, it's fire sale time on cases of the stuff.

Sue, that brick color comes from a cheap rattle-can of rust-colored primer from Lowe's.  I used Hydrocal for mortar, and then a light India-Ink-in-water wash to tone down the brightness of the mortar.  Then I Dul-Coted it, and went to work with the weathering powders that I learned about at my LHS's seminars over the summer.  It came out darker than I would have liked.  That's a lesson learned.  I also had trouble getting the decals to set nicely.  I should have put them on before the Dul-Cote, but I put them on after and that doesn't seem to work as well.  I tried to cover up the decal edges with paint and powders, but it came out a bit heavy.  Live and learn, though.  The next one will be better, or so I keep telling myself.

Mike, I hope the MRI can pinpoint the problem for you.  I've only had one of those - on my shoulder from skiing.  The resulting conversation went like this:  "You need rotator cuff surgery."  "OK, when can we do it?"  "How about Thursday?"  "OK, what time?"  I was ready to get the use of my arm back, you see, and I saw no sense in wasting time about it.

Do you think that I could have a root beer float, please? Beer Frau

MrB,  Thanks for reposting.  I keep going back to it because I love the weathering job.  It really looks like it has been there for a while.  I think when I get to painting our RH, I would like the bricks to be that color.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike,  I agree.  After the previous weekend, I sat back and watched what was going to happen.  My feeling is that if you ignore things like that they usually go away.  I feel safer posting here and at the Diner for now.  Friends are truely interested.

Morning all, Joe I'll have some ham and eggs with black coffee.  Thanks.

Sue... I did see the remark and am glad you enjoyed it and I always like to here that someone likes my work.

I have a Dr. appt. this morning in Lawton for the MRI on my back, sure hope they can find out what the problem is. I am tired of taking pain pills and laying around the house, I WANT TO DO SOMETHING!!!!.

I am getting to the train room and running some trains this week, man I really do enjoy it. I am going to try to get in the shop this weekend and do some scratch building in N scale.  I will TRY.

Sue, as for the little ''odd'' things on the layout, I have several that I will try to get some pics and post them  pics and post them here. not sure if I will mess with posting on WFP til things cool down a bit.  Maybe we need to start our own little ''Show & Tell''  here at the Barn.

Got to go get in the shower and then to Lawton.    Later,   Mike

Here's the Brewery.  It's a Walthers Background Building, originally called Arrowhead Ale:

I didn't like the decals, way too plain, so I thought this would be a more fun name.  I made up my own decals.  The building will actually be hung on an outrigger a bit far back, as there will be a new siding going in there to service the brewery.

This is a background flat, so it's only an inch thick, but I've got a walk-around table.  So, I did some work on the inside (not quite finished yet) and made one of those "sliced-off" buildings as viewed from the layout edge:

Basically, this was the first entry in WPF for Labor Day.  I did politely ask that people not post nasty criticisms, but that's about as inflammatory as my entry got.  Eventually, the whole thread got so unpleasant that I edited my original post, putting a bold font "open message" to Bergie, saying that it would be fine with me if the thread went away, because it just wasn't in the spirit of the hobby.

Good morning:

Thought I'd stop in for coffee and the breakfast special this morning before heading for Lancaster and points north.

Seems I missed a lot of activity at WPF while I was away at Whispering Wings over the holiday weekend. I do go there every now and again, but didn't even see it (I was all the way back at pg. 8) while checking on the forum last Tue.

With Sue's post, she makes it sound as though Mr. Beasley got something started with posting a picture? I can't believe Mr. B would start a fight......I'm just being curious.

Well, I'd better head off and get packed for the road-trip. I have last minute "stuff" to get done around the house and some paperwork to finish up too, before taking off for town to pick up my mother and then hitting the open road.

I'll check in with you all when I get back home.

Good morning.  Coffee please.

Looks like they pulled your WPF, MrB.  Will you post your Strumpet Pale Ale photo here, please?  I was wondering how you came up with the town name of Moose Bay.  You must be back to MR hobby season, because you are sure turning out the scenes.

Mike,  Did you see Larry's reference to your roadkill scene? I didn't respond on the other thread because things were getting nasty over there.  We are trying to do odd things on our layout as well, and I am always looking for ideas.  Thanks.

I always enjoy everyones sharing of photos.  Progress on the layouts of others motivates me to keep moving.

Later,  Sue

A Strumpet Pale Stale Ale for anyone who can stomach one, Joe.  Strumpet is the brewery in my town of Moose Bay.

All I did tonight was the computer-to-decal-paper transition.  I made up the decals for the water tank - "Moose Bay" and, in a slightly smaller font, "Elevation 572."  That's about the elevation of Lake Michigan, appropriate giving the preponderance of Milwaukee motive power on my layout.  I stretched the lettering of "Moose Bay" by a few pixels vertically, because it will have to span one of the horizontal ribs of the tank.  It will take a couple of more days to prep the decals, and then I should have them on the tank for the weekend.  I think I'll pass on WPF until I'm sure things are back to civilized.  Somehow, just putting the picture up on the wall here behind the bar is more satisfying, anyway.

Evening all,  Joe, I'll have a cold beer.    Thanks.

How is everyone tonight?  I got out to the train room last night and ran the 2-6-2 steamer some, didn't pull any cars mostly just forward and reverse to get it broke in and then I will clean & lube it. I removed the front wheels for now til I can get the chanch to add some weight to them so they will stay on track.  It sure runs well, I took it up the 2.5% grade just for thrills and it really did a fine job, of course there were no cars behind it. When the 2-6-2's were in service ,did they pull a lot of cars? What I have seen on TV in westerns they seem to be usually shorter trains compaired to todays. Is this right?   I think I will have this beer and go see if it will still run.    Later,     Mike

Dry spell- guess you can say.

I did keep tabs on WPF, and didn't like what was going on there one bit. Keep my hands to myself, though.

I don't have a camera, so I don't have some of the problems as those member(s) who are being picked on. I wanted a camera, but my wife wouldn't let me buy one.

Bought a car with so many problems, that it in itself has turned out to be another hobby- and using up all the money I need for my trains etc.; not to mention all that good beer money going to waste.

I haven't posted here in a long time because I have nothing of interest.

You guys have done a fine job of keeping this old saloon going though. Thanks.

Maybe one of these days I can get everything situated and get back into the swing of things.

Good afternoon all:

I'm thinking that I need a TALL cold one, Joe. And while you're at it, a round for the house too.

Well, seems that Squeaky has been busy of late...This is good! He sure does go through a dry spell ever now and again.

I had a nice weekend at Whispering Wings (the cabin, close to Itasca State Park) with my hunting partner, Larry. Basically we got a lot of work done, in preparation for the construction of the new, larger cabin and the up-coming hunting seasons. More on that later.

Mostly, I've been catching up from being gone and going again tomorrow. My uncle's health has taken a very bad turn for the worse and I'm heading off to see him tomorrow. The auction (which I had said I would help at) at his farm is set for Sat., so I'll be gone until late Sun. or sometime Mon.

No work has been done in the Trainroom for a bit....But thanks to all of you with the pictures you have posted.

GUB, hang in there....The Trainroom will come about sooner or later. Just don't let it get TOO late. More on that thought later too.

Gotta' run. I'll check in when I get back home.

Whoo!  Time to duck and cover, the flame wars are getting heavy out there.  Sapporo, Joe, and see what the others are sippin'.

Jeff, Mr.B, nice pictures!  Maybe we could run a stealth WPF here in the Barn.

Haven't done much (except run a few trains) in the last few days.  Our mini-deluge earlier this week raised the humidity from almost nothing to the 20%+ range, which in turn raised the crack-of-dawn temperature into the high 80's.  Ghastly!  The weather weenie claims we'll be drying out and the morning temps will get down to the 70's (which I'll believe when I see it on the railroad space thermometer.)  In the meantime, dream-plan-build is restricted to dreaming and planning.

Mike, I hope your back problem will improve.  I can imagine how irritating inactivity must be for you.

Well, the chief cook just rang the dinner bell, so I'll be seeing you later,

Chuck (modeling Central Japan in September, 1964)

Hope everyone had a good Labour Day Weekend. I'll have a Scotch on the Rocks if you please. It seems a little bit nicer in here then is some of the other places I've visited over the weekend. Didn't get anything done RR wise, but I did get the doors done for my neighbor. They don't look too bad, a couple of mistakes. Oh well ... It has been a long, long weekend and maybe I need to get to bed. Goodnight all. Will check back in tomorrow.

Heap good, Running Bear.  Have-um fire water on me.  (Sorry if that's kind of dated, and if it offends anyone, please let me know, OK?)  That's one where the cloud background is shown off very well, and the lighting is well-balanced so the ballast color comes out true.

My digital camera has lots of megapixels, and very good optics, but it's really designed as a high-end point-and-shoot pocket camera, so I don't get much control of anything.  I can't set time or aperture, so I tend to use the "delay" trigger, which makes it easier to keep the camera from jiggling because I'm not pushing the button at the same time the shutter is going.  For a $500 camera a few years back, you'd think they would at least put on a tripod mount, but that's another extravagance I'll just have to live without.

And I'm drinking now (cause it's labor day -hope ya'll had the day off), while playing online poker noless. But this'll be it till the weekend. By then my latest order will be here; new SD 40 coming! Jeff nice to see your pics!

Mike,

My husband noticed your cool roadkill.  He mentioned after hitting a few full sized deer with the KW, that they seem to be full of more brown stuff than red stuff. ( Kinda like some of the posters this weekend )

ROTFL

Seriously, we loved it.

A round for the house, Joe, or what's left after this weekend.  Yeah, the bad guys have taken their toll over the past few days.  I didn't even bother reading most of the non-picture posts on those threads.  Didn't we have a shutdown about a year ago, just because of the same kind of activity?  Is it seasonal?  I don't mean the transition to the new forum software, but a real "go away and come back in a few days" where nobody could post?

Strong medicine, but maybe we need another dose.  Too bad a few bad clowns show up at every circus.

Well, summer is unofficially over.  The last cookout at the swim club (unless, of course, we go back and grill again next weekend) and school is back in session tomorrow.  Poor Annie has had assignments all summer for AP Biology, and she's got a test on the first day of school.  Whatever happened to the concept of "vacation," anyway?

I usually leave the camera in the 1 megapixel setting, even though it goes up to 5.  I don't really need the resolution, and the camera's memory chip fills up too fast otherwise.

I've been working on my Walthers water tank kit this weekend.  I want to add some decals for "Moose Bay" on the sides, but I can't find my decal paper.  It's in an "unfinished" part of town, so I had to choose my camera angle carefully.

Even so, the ballast isn't done out at this end of the world, but there will still be one more track change on the main line to the right, so I don't want to get ahead of myself for the photo.

I finally have a camera I can do something with. For 1.3 megapixels it isn't bad.

Morning all, I guess it stil considered morning.  Joe I'll have some lunch, Maybe one of your Misquete grilled rib eye steaks and a baked potato.  Thanks

Mr.B   I can sit at the work bench for a short time and have been doing some scratch building, mostly playing around and learning to use all that styrene I was given a few months ago. I have nothing that I would want to post a pic of yet.   I have a few things I would like to do on the layout but I don't want to do much there because I hope that in the next few months I will be tearing it down and moving it all upstairs to the new trainroom.

My back won't let me do any drywall there so I an kinda of at a standstill right now.  I did get to the train room last night and run the trains some, They sure did run good. BTW  How are the P2K steam locos, are they as good runners as the diesel units? I would like to have a steam loco just because I like the way they look.

I guess I will talk with you all later.     Mike

Good Morning Everyone;

I'll have a coffee and a Blueberry Muffin to start.

Thanks Mr. B for the words of encouragement. Sometimes I think the attic will never get done or the other rooms for that matter and then in a couple of weeks I'll make all kinds of progress. It is hard to get anything done when I work the hours that I do. By the time I get home at night I really do not want to start any construction projects. But I digress. Thanks again for the kind words.

I probably should finish up here and get my day started. Maybe I'll do a little MR this evening when all is said and done.

Have a great day everyone. Will check back later.

Hi, everyone.  A round of Pinot Noir for the house, Joe, seeing as how that's what I'm a'drinkin' tonight.  With a steak on the grill, I found it was the last bottle of red in the house.  Ordinarily, I'd have gone for a Cabernet Sauvignon, but beggars can't be choosers.

Worked a bit on the water tower today, between computer upgrades.  Once again, the old machine bit the big one, and now I'm re-upgrading the hard drive.  The next time this happens, I'm getting a new computer.  Right now, I'm using my work laptop for my MR stuff while bringing the ancient machine back up to speed.

Walthers has a built-up of the water tower, with "yellow ochre" as the tank color.  I kind of liked it, so I've got a kind-of mustard tone to my water tank.  Lots of weathering powder on this kit, too, since it's right by the tracks, and should have a lot of both soot and rust.

GUB, I suspect you're doing the right thing by getting the room straightened away before you begin layout work.  Nothing worse than getting 6 or 8 months into a layout and having to tear it down again.  In the long run, it's better, believe me.

Sue, where's your arial view?  C'mon, I showed you mine, now you show me yours.  Climb up on Larry's shoulders and take a snap, OK?

JB, Annie is out for her final dinner date with her beau for a while.  He's going off to college, so it will be some time before they meet again.  A really fine guy.  He isn't an MR type, but he really liked the Strumpet Brewery.  There aren't a lot of true gentlemen left in the world, but Alex is one of them.

Mike, can you sit up at your workbench with your back the way it is?  If so, then this might be a good time to do some scratchbuilding and kit-bashing.  You will get over this, and you'd might as well be ready to hit the ground running when you do.

Gack!  Something's wrong with the Internet connection to my desktop.  It's gone to "Slowski" mode - you know, the turtles in the Comcast anti-DSL ads?  Trouble is, I've already got Comcast.  Well, time to get back to work.  Cheers, all, and Joe, refill those Pinot Noirs, OK?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
