John,
I usually spend time on the forum while I waiting for paint or glue to dry.
Lisa actually got me started. My husband saw her thread; told me about it; and here I am.
I have had lots of advice and encouragement.
Well, back to the paint.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good morning all, MIL's about the same they're not sure how long she'll last, she's not eating and we won't use a feeding tube against her wishes. My husband went for an MRI and the discovered slow blood flow in the frontal lobe, put him on asprin therapy for that, now he has an appointment for an Echo Dopper tomorrow. I'm trying not to worry, these tests could just be because his dad died young(49, a year older than my Tom is now) but I'm still having concerns. I'm sure I'll be better once the tests are over.
Sue, I am glad to hear that my thread got you into the forum, You have a lot of great(money saving) ideas, I wish I could show you some pics of the trees that I made from garden cuttings.
Finding the MRR mag in with the womans I am sure was just a fluke( or else someone is picking on all you men out there).
What is a woman? I won't even touch that one.
Thanks to all who have me in your thoughts and prayers, I know it helps, and I know that all this will pass in time.
Have a wonderful day.
Lisa, If you have a digital camera, or a scanner, you can use www.photobucket.com to transfer your pics. I had lots of help from the guys here on the forum. I was such a rookie with the camera/computer thing, but I think that I have it figured out.
I hope that Tom's Echo goes well. Be thankful to know early so that he can get care.
Sue, biggest problem I have is a combination of slow dial-up, even slower comp. combined with very little patience with up loading. I know how but it takes so long!
Up date on my MIL and husband, MIL passed away Wed. Funeral is in morning, in some ways it is a blessing that her pain is gone but I know the pain of loss will be present for a long time to come I still miss my Dad and he's been gone over a year now. I need to get some sleep long day ahead.
Lisa -
I am sorry to hear about your MIL. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this time.
Please don't forget about us in the CS. I know of a few who have asked where you've been and how your back is doing. We'd love to have you stop in for a cup of joe and some conversation.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Life is simple - eat, drink, play with trains!

Lisa,
Larry and I, would like to extend our condolences on the passing of your MIL. Our prayers will be with you and your family during this trying time.
I was thinking about you working in your shed. The temperature here is going down to 19 degrees tonight. How does your heater hold up to that? Our high today was 48 with a cold wind out of the NE. Burrrrrrrrr.
Hope your life is getting back to normal. I hope that Tom is not fretting too much about his test results.
Chin up, Sue
George,
We only have occasional cold like this. Usually, the winter low temp would be 45 and high temp 55-60. We do, however, have lots of rain that often starts November 1st. Looks like the rain might wait until the 2nd. The thing about the Pacific Northwest, is that the temp is mild not too hot or too cold. Lots of gray days that do nothing.
The best thing for the cold is insulated coveralls. I do not know how I managed without them. I guess I was young and didn't know the difference.
I stopped by the LOL this morning. The owner was there. I usually miss him because he is at his regular job. When he is there, my purchase of exacto blades and paint takes at least an hour. Fun guy. I am going to try HULL RED for my brick color on the RH.
I did go back to the rocks. I am starting over on a section that I am painting.
Back to work. Sue
Lisa...my wife, as I was in the train store on day one..."no...I dont like N...you need to do HO". and "I have some ideas about the town...." basically...she is building it with me hehe Somehow I kind of think its becoming her layout....recently she said "you need more brown on that mountain" and "thats not what I was thinking for the town area...I want all buildings side by side...and I want them old...."
hehe so you can say she is part of this too hehe

Dave Vollmer wrote:Wow... Other than lamenting all of the work I'd put into my HO stuff, I think my wife was secretly pleased when I sold off my HO and switched to N... They take up less space! But I think she was also surprised that the price didn't shrink with the trains... I still hear about the $25 (Bowser N5) caboose! "How can something that small cost that much?" Funny, I asked myself the same thing when I bought her diamond!
For the sake of your marriage DO NOT GO THERE!!!! When I am asked why I spend so much for anything I have a stock answer. "At my age what am I going to spend it on a girlfriend" Works every time.
Good Morning and please don't talk about the weather, We get some nice Temps.(50 or 60) this time of the year but that's just a tease because anyone who lives in NE knows that winter is around the corner.
Sue, I won't be doing much on the layout unless we get a real warm spell, what I really need is a bigger house. As much as I miss my MIL one good thing for Tom and I will be the possibility of moving, it will depend on how much her home sells for the proceeds are to be split between the 5 siblings so it may be possible.
Glad to have you back. If I had to work in the garage or the tack room of the barn, it would be so hard to go out this time of year. With it in the house, I do something everyday, even if I am just planning.
I am getting ready for my wreath making project at Christmas. I usually have a wreath party for which I make the noble fir wreath and have friends over to decorate their own wreaths. I have 17 to make this year. The weather almost predictably will freeze when I begin building out in the barn. In the past, I have had the parties in the room which is now the layout room/weight room. I guess the living room will become messy this year.
Hint: We have E-Z track that we put under the Christmas tree. As least that would allow you to exercise the locos.
Morning all,
Sue, I have a bunch of power-loc track so I'll probably set up those to get my train fix this winter(Christmas is coming and I can set up my Christmas display Soon) That wreath making sounds like fun but I can see how it would make quite the mess. Got to go for now.
Spent the weekend working on the yard area. What a maze we have. You really have to pay attention to the direction that all the ground throw switches are heading.
Lisa, I got my wreath area cleaned up in the barn and a bunch of boughs cut. They should be dry enough soon to start making wreaths. I can usually make one or two in the morning before I go to work. It is warm now and we might have flooding. Seattle registered almost 2" of rain yesterday. We went up to Tacoma to see the Puget Sound Model Railroaders Club layout at the History Museum. That was fun.
Good morning to you to, Lisa. I originally started a small wreath making business. It became too complicated so I sell the boughs to a local company and just do a few for personal use. The big boys sell the high production wreaths for half what I would need to cover cost.
Back to trains. I am just about ready to start on some ground goop above the rock. I am also carving cedar trees. I could not figure a way to get the flaring stumps with our carving them. I have a lot of fire starter, which I might need. They said that the power might go out today with the heavy rains and high winds. Before Larry left yesterday, he started the generator to make sure that it works. The trials of winter are upon us. All the rivers are high, so I will go to town this morning and hope to be back by noon. If the storm is what they are predicting, I will probably not have the computer back on for a couple days.
Thanksgiving will be at my brothers, and Friday Thanksgiving with Larry's family. My MOL's husband's grandsons' wife (how many times did you have to read that?) is a dental hygienist also, so we always have a great time together.
Well, I had better head to town.
Lisa, No power loss yet, but I did come home to a leak in the roof by the chimney. Well, it a good thing that I had planned to go back to town. Picked up patching material. The first year that we were in this house, we had an ice storm. On the second day without power, they finially lost power in town, so that put us on the back burner. Larry came home from work and saw me huddled in front of a kerosene heater with a blanket. That's it, we got a generator. We were five days without power that time. Lesson learned.
My brother took the cruise to Alaska this last summer. They got to ride on the Alaska Yukon Rail. He took many rolls of the trip. That would be fun to model.
I did the rough carving with my husbands pocket knife. I need to get some carving tools to do the roots. Ask me later.
Pcarrell, Everyone is welcome to participate.
I am ok. I grew up on a flood plain and bought on a hill. With the high winds and heavy rain, I came home to a leak in the roof by the chimney yesterday. Lots of buckets until Larry gets home. I am not going up on the roof with the high winds.
This morning I was awakened to the smoke alarms at 4:50. Another leak allowed water to get in a smoke alarm. Now we know that the work with smoke, CO, and water. They sure did not advertise that.
Larry should be home on Thursday and they are predicting that to be the only dry day.
Thanks for your concern.
Hope Larry can get you all sealedup. You should patatent that no smoke alarm design that works with water.
I just got an Emaiil that RROC is having their National meet in Washingto State. They want us to do our seminar for them but since I do not fly that is a LONG drive from S.C.. It is in August so lots of time to make up my mind.
Stay safe and dry!!!
The rain has stopped, at least for a couple of days. He should get home, hopefully before dark. Maybe, when I get home from the rock gym, the roof will be repaired. He is not amused. That must be hard to be that far away, not being able to do anything about the mess.
August is a great time of year. Usually warm and dry, high 80's. Where is the meet? Usually when we drive that far, we schedule RR or logging museums along the way. In April, there is a logging-model railroad convention in Senora, CA. We had a great time this year and will probably make it an annual event.
Are you home yet? How are your new toys?
