$500 dollars doesn't go too far nowadays since the new Bigboys and Challengers would eat all if not most of it. I would get a couple of Genesis locomotives, Proto's and Atlas's.

Maybe MR should think about increasing the winning pot since prices on new locos and cars have increased. Not only because of rising prices, but would create more competition in the sweepstakes.

I posted to a similar question on the Garden Railroader fourm. I would invest the $ into my grandfathers Lionel layout. New benchwork with track upgrading (with used track). Now if I had $500 (instead of $100) then I would also try to get new transformer(s) and as much else I could streach out of that money. Probibly hand build a work house to "FIX" those old locos....then again who knows how far I could streach that kind of $. I usualy only have a $30 limit!

I always wondered that. Since the MR sweepstakes lets you buy through your local store, and my local store has the business card of a layout repair specialist, I think I would take $500 worth of services from him to get the !@$#%^& wiring and some of the @^^%%$## out of guage tracks reguaged, not to mention the $###@! switch machines operating, so I could run the trains I already have in a more relaxing fashion.

What would I get?
Maybe start with some computer interfaceing ; sheetrock for my train room; and the last choice would be Alco's in Ho.
