I would get the base of a DCC system, then take a couple thousands out of my pocket to get some decoders to work with it !

This, in fact, DID happen to me 6+ years ago!!!

The local RR shop also was an old PRR freight station/museum, and I bought a 'numbered'-calendar that gave away $25 each day (based on the 3-digit lottery #), except Christmas Eve, which was a $500 pay-out!!!

I never play the lottery; in fact, I didn't know I'd won until almost New Years Eve!!!

I bought a new Bowser T1, had him assemble, paint, and letter it (I had no knowledge of 'how' to assemble them at the time), donated $50 to the Museum, and spent the remainder on various other things.....

If I'd 'hit' now, I'd get a BWL M1-Class locomotive, and some structures.....

Wow! $500 all for little ol' me? That would almost buy a Broadway Limited Big Boy or a Lionel HO-scale Challenger. And notice that I say "almost" -- a lot depends on what hobby shop you hang out at. Some would require a couple hundred more just to let you in the door to drool over one.

Well if it were a couple years down the road it would probably cover a RTR loco or just a couple cars, the way things are going in the hobby! Sorry, that's my opinion on the matter.

I probably will use it to replace the wobbly plastic wheels with the fine metal wheel sets, upgrade the electronics to DCC, and perhaps some inprovements to the worktable. If there were any left over I probably will use it to pad the monthly allowance at the store.

Alcos, and a Spray booth.
I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.
