My own Clinch Valley and connecting roads - L&N, SRR, N&W, Chessie (C&O, B&O,WM) DT&I and V&O. Connecting power mostly only into and out of staging.

Right now nothing but I plan to run almost everything including my own railroad the Great Lakes and Atlantic.

At my club we run mainly CN, CP, NS, VIA, Trillium Railways and Amtrak but we also use run through power including Conrail, CSX, CEFX, CNW, UP, SP, SOO, STL&H, Wisconsin Centreal, Ontario Northland, GT, Algoma Centreal, BNSF, Chessie System, Montana Railink and GO Transit. Now that CN bought BC Rail we will use that too.

I do have my own railroad, with a paint scheme. But since I can't paint worth a darn I stick with a lot of different road names, though I try to concentrate on a few.

I approach it a little differently. I have a small table top layout, so for variety, I use different sets of locomotives/cabooses for different operating sessions. One time it will be a set of Southern engines circa mid-'80s, the next will be a set of Clinchfield engines circa mid-'60s, and there is C&O, Blue Creek (a freelanced road), and other leased engines from other roads that will participate from time to time.

On my new layout currently in production I am modeling BNSF in summer, 2000 in North Texas, so BNSF interchanges with UP, Fort Worth and Western, and Wichita, Tillman and Jackson. I have much more variety in rolling stock as well.

Anything which ran around Chicago in the late 80's and early 90's, mainly BN, CSX, NS, KCS, IC, SP and some belt /short lines, with occasional visits from a host of others - too many to count.

With a little bit of deft swapping of buildings, I can also run Alabama based companies (see as above, but with different shortlines)

I also model the North Eastern Railway (UK) during the first world war.

I guess I have that collector gene. Because I have more equipment than could be practical.
I recently hit 400 because of tax refund check and Greenburg show.
Therefore I have divided int6o six regions.
In my world NYC and PRR are still independent. Some PC thrown in.
Central of NJ, Erie, Erie Lackawanna, Delaware & Hudson, Reading, Atlantic Coast Line all become the "East".
I like BN with GN mixed in.
I have N&W mixed with Southern and NS like it's a short time after the merger.
Finally CP, NP, UP and SP all become the "Pacific".
I think the plusses of this system are: each region gets assigned an industry and a corresponding car type. Therefore, BN has grain storage and consequently, covered hoppers. PRR is my coal carrier. NYC is TOFC etc.
I like to rotate the roads through the year. Two months at a time and thus I don't get tired and bored of one set. I also concentrate on the industry and scenery of the current road and match region to season.
A wild scheme but works for me.

I run anything under the sun and my own railroad (Sheboygan & Lake Superior). I used to by anything that looked good, but now I am mostly buying modern equipment unless a model catches my eye and undecorated models.
I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.

beside a quite large swiss railway collection I run only one american RR: IC, as a souvenir of my study timesin Illinois. I started because models in the US were so cheap compared to european... for the price of 4 european engines I brought home a full railroad!

lately a few 'foreigner steam engines (N&W, UP)' sneaked in.. i just could not resist!
