I agree with the premise of applying your own window strip. [:D] It should be possible to do this with either a heavyweight or a streamline. And definitely allow for replacement of the roof on a heavyweight to represent cars rebuilt to blend with newer purchases (like the GM&O and several other RRs did). I model primarily in HO scale so that is where my lobbying is pointed. N and O scalers might just be looking for the same thing, though!

I'm a PRR buff and there are no smooth side twin diner cars available. I've even checked replacing the car sides with brass or plastic strips with the correct window placement.

On a more personal level (to my needs, anyway), I remember Atlas in the late 70s-early 80s offered a really nice line of streamlined equipment, both smoothside and fluted. What I remember particularly was a Union Pacific observation car (made by Rivarossi for Atlas?) which had the prototypically correct blunt end for that era. It'd be nice to see someone bring those cars back into production.

Plastic Harriman coach, baggage, and RPO for O Scale/HiRail O. Nothing out there in plastic, but switching "express" trains is quite popular in large scales.

In HO scale, the Great Northern streamlined cars (there are many) both for the Empire Builder and the others (Western Star, Badger, Gopher, etc.). Especially the full length "Great Dome" cars, diners and observation cars.

Hoping for more P-S and ACF LW cars like Walthers Budd, PRR B70, P54, MP54, P85BR and modernized P70 variants (who has AlcoModels dies?), and a modern PRR diner. Nice PRR B60 baggage car kits are already available from Bethlehem Car Works. Hopefully Branchline is still planning that extensive line of HW cars. I like the one piece body with modular window panel idea outlined above, clean, undrilled roofs with separate roof vents and modular underbody details, NO molded on grabs PLEASE, and the LW skirts are alot easier to remove than they are to add especially if score lines are molded into the backs of the sides. IHC produced fluted side baggage, baggage dorm and coach that are Southern prototypes. I don' know about the diner and sleeper. The dome lounge doesn't have a prototype and that observation is a Santa Fe Vista series 4-1 sleeper lounge. I would like to see a 14-4 sleeper car used by the MP, KCS, UP, Frisco, Katy and B&O. [:D]

Forgive me if this is a re-post..The last one went off into the bit-bucket: In HO, I'd like to see the MU commuter cars that ran on the Morristown-Boonton NJ line. I remember making the trip, a long time ago, to Denville and still have memories of the smell of the pantograph-powered coaches, the feel of the rattan seats and the dull ugly flat green paint. I think Walters had something, back in the early 70's, but I never picked any up.
