Whats your favorite steam locomotive? - Part 2!!!

Man, I must be out of it. I have 15 steam engines and not one of them is on the list.

Well, if you want to know. I like the old-time 2-6-0 with the funnel stack.

My favorite Steam locomotive has a least two cylinders and a maximum of four. It has at least four drivers and as many as sixteen driving wheels. The leading truck should be at least two and a maximum of four, except for the PRR S2. It should have at least two trailing truck wheels and as many as six to include the 2-6-6-6. In other words, I like almost any mainline steam.

I am glad to see us steam devotees are keeping the record straight relative to most powerful, et al. radford, I don't know that an Allegheny or a Blue Ridge might not have showed their heels to a Big Boy. More horsepower and similar size running gear. I think we need to get an Allegheny restored and run a Big Boy back East and duel it out South of Petersburg on nice straight double track NS right of way. Then we would know.

Sorry, Big Boys are the "biggest" because they are the longest drawbar to drawbar. They are not the most powerful reguardless of how "powerful" is measured. The NP and DM&IR Yellowstones among others would out pull them. I think the NW and other eastern coal roads had some that would out do them. Neither are they the biggest when it comes to weight. On the other hand, I would bet the Big Boy would be the fastest of the monster articulateds.
