Usually in April (Late September and just before christmas too) there's a show in Maumee at the fairgrounds.. It's always been pretty good with the disclaimer I haven't been there in about 5 years. Your experience seeing the sea of orange boxes is why I quit going to most train shows. Club sponsered shows use to be full of what I called garage sale items. That is, club members and other venders selling off unwanted items for whatever reasons. Very few stores, traveling distributors, etc.. Not that they weren't there but I can pay the same price online (or less), do it from the comfort of my own house, and I don't have to pay for the privelage of dealing with a crowd of grumpy old men and dealers who would rather carry thier junk back home than sell it. Shows pretty much suck anymore. That's my opinion anyway, yours may differ.

Train Show Disappointment!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 22, 2006 11:48 PM
On saturday on my wifes insistance we went to a Model Train show in a suburb of cleveland. Me and my wife have been to several over the last several years and all have been very disappointing mostly large scale stuff like lionel and larger very little HO and what is there is either too old or too darn expensive like higher mark up then MSRP. No structures or scenery pieces (unless you count plasticville building structures. I went looking to buy some rolling stock, buildings and some much needed Locomotives. I left with 9.00 less in my pocket and no train stuff. I was also looking to stock up on track but the only pieces I found were 9 inch pieces thrown in a box and they were rusted.

Where in Ohio can a person find a good train show! I cant afford to go to anything out of state unless it is less then a couple hours drive like less that 3 hours. I think I see why others can get disillusioned with hobbies.
