I'm a train lover, and there's no loco that I really dislike, so I'm going to remain neutral on this one... ([;)])

Have fun.

I agree. They're just so ugly it's unimaginable. I don't hate U-boats but they're low on my list.

Tough choice. I'm torn between the BL2 and those god awfull Krauss Maufie diesel hydrolics that the SP used for a while. Truth be told though if it isn't strait electric I'm not all that interested anyway.

I'm gonna agree on the Kraus-Maffei, but the U-Boats aren't far behind, but for some reason I like the big Us in BN. The SD70ACe is also up there..and I'm actually more inclined towards widenose GEs now because of what EMD puts out nowadays..

Any of the modern widenose diesels. I miss high short hoods. Or, I wood if I could remember that far back.

I always thought that the BL2s were kind of neat looking....

The SD70ACe, it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

No, you guys just haven't seen ugly!

Look at some recent rebuilds in the Czech Republic or some of the 1980s designs in Russia.

US locomotives are just elegant in comparison, even the SD70ACe!

Close tie between the Kraus Maffei hydraulics and the BL2.

In all seriousness, that's my answer too. Once you get past streamliners (Pioneer Zephyr, M-10000, E- and F-series diesels, e.g.) into the purely utilitarian, I don't care for them anymore. In more recent times, I am happy to see some more 'stylized' work coming back into play. Still blocky and chunky, but at least some consideration seems to have been made to make things look nice too (e.g. Genesis)...

Both of the newest 6 axle units from EMD and GE. They both look like they were designed by a committee and no 2 members of that committee knew what the others were doing. No style or beauty, just brute strength.

Both of those are nasty! I'm still trying to figure out what EMD was on when the BL2 was designed. Of course their parent company, GM, later blessed us with the Pontiac Aztek.... [:D]

EMD,

Remember, the race was on with Alco in providing an "all around" do anything diesel that provided good visibility for the crew. The BL2 was an attempt at this but fortunately the boys at EMD came up with the GP7 to compete with the Alco's RS units which were a hit with the railroads.

BTW: Someone stated that the U50 is ugly? Hmmmmm. To each his own. I always felt that the looks of GE's U-Boats and the U50 conveyed Horsepower Muscle!
