The El Paso& Southwestern RR went through southern arizona to the copper mines there before the mid 20's merger with SP. I came up with Kiva & Arizona RR, it sort of gives it a history flavor to it and it covers any part of Arizona...Opps! sorry I added more headaches for you! [:D] Ok , I like Kiva Valley Railroad. On the Humor side to this, you can call it the Kiva System (just like the Chessie System) but instead of a 'cat' on your rolling stock and motive power, you can put a 'Buzzard'! [tup] All kidding a side, I know this is a something that's important part of your railroad and I wish you the best of luck! [^]

I went with the Kiva Valley Railroad.

But, Kiva Canyon Railroad has a good ring to it as well. A valley is sort of like a canyon.[;)]

Whoops.... I ment to say coal was never mined in AZ that I know of. But lets not get hung up on little details? Let say copper... there ya go![:D]

Coal might be brought in to fire boilers in factories and to keep trains running. Or if you're up around flagstaff you might need it for heating the house in the winter. It can get kinda chilly up there.[8D]

I'd go with "Kiva Valley" being in the name. Since "Kiva" isn't a well known name, it isn't clear if it's a town or an river or a valley or what.

I voted "Kiva Valley", but I would have gone with "Kiva and Central Arizona".
Both Kiva Central and Kiva and Central are just lacking something.

I'd go with the Kiva Valley Railroad, or maybe Kiva Valley Railway.

You said the name never changed from the beginning, and being in Kiva Valley at the beginning, that seems appropriate.

Well coal is no longer mined there. I had in my mind that it was very small RR and lost coal and replaced with everything... LOL And actually now that I think about coal is mined in AZ... hence the small mine then[:D]

Kiva Valley Rail Road

Railroads that started out with a limited purpose, such as hauling coal from mine to interchange, usually had a local name like Kiva Valley Railroad (or East Broad Top, Chesapeake Beach, etc). And Northern, And Eastern, etc. were usually included only when the railroad was formed with aspirations of expansion

I actually thought about the "Pacific", but I figured beig so far in the southwest, that would be kinda limiting. Hence the Northern or Eastern as options. I thought about, more for humor than anything, was "Kiva and Atlantic". But I figure every one would be pretty stumped and being in Arizona well 3500 miles to the east coast is pretty biiiiig stretch for a "regional"[:D]

Ok, so this may be bit of an odd problem but for those of you that have been there, you know how tought this can be. Argh!


The Problem[V]....


I need help coming up my freelanced railroad name. I have a good idea of what I want, but cant make the final decsion on it. I just keep goign back and forth. My fiancee can only help so much ' cause she knows as soon we come up with one, I wonder if it will be good enough. And I keep going back to the drawingboard. I know I am driving her nuts ...

Where you can help me out...[:)].

So, I thought I woud post it to the one group of people that will have a good collective opinion on this. if it is one thing this group has, its experience with these things and plenty of opinions and adivce. Pick the one you like, the one you think is most fitting or just coolest.

Ok here is a bit of history on lay out.[8D]

The town, railroad, and even locaction is pretty much completly fictional, allthough it is very loosey based in Arizona.. The location though, is Kiva Valley. (Kiva is the name of the street we live on, but it was catchy) Hence, the root of the name. The actual layout serves in two era's. 1955 and Present Day. It also works with all other railroads so it allows me to run just about anything I freakin want too. Wether it be serving with other RR's or there is just a vistor on the network. I like trains. All of them. So this was the best way I could come up with something to serve all my desires. Ha ha ha

The Blank Rail Road started in the 1920's doing coal, but really took off in the early 40's during WW2 to help with productions, materail movement, and the general surge in traffic. It then picked up biz as the war ended, as the market took off with everyone coming home, and the economy booming, including the main town of Kiva Valley, with folks setting up shop and heading to the rural life in the subburbs.
The Railroad had its up and downs, but kept going. It never got big enough to picked up by a class one, and as a decent size regional road, they were able to fend off buyouts and to provide enough confidence in shippers and business, that they always be there. Hence, the modern industry load they have today.
The name never changed... What ever I pick will have to serve in both era's . As some of my deseils that will serve in '55 will be brand spanking new, will do double duty as old workhorses in the pressnt day that the RR's wont let go.

Hope you guys dont mind the poll, but I couldnt think of anyother way to do it. Figured this would be a good reason. And thanks for taking part. I dont even know what is going to happen with colors and schemes..... it gives me a headache.
