I need some help... Please vote for my RR Name!

I went with Kiva Valley. Always thought "_____ Valley" sounded cool. In my mind it fits both a very small railroad (getting stuff down the valley to a major connection) and a Class 1 line (think Lehigh Valley).

When you do come up with an emblem for your railroad, pick a hopi fetish symbol of some kind. Found in a lot of their art work.

Although I like Kiva Valley Railroad the best, I didn't vote for it. Reason: There was a well-known and often-modelled railroad in British Columbia called the Kettle Valley Railroad; you will constantly run into confusion if you use KVRR. But if you don't care, that's your business.

I asked Jeeves and Kiva is a Hopi word. I don't know if this helps any with the naming, but the following are a couple of the definitions. The Hopi Indian Reservation is in Northeastern Arizona it is entirely surrounded by the Navajo Indian Reservation. The following are a couple of the definitions from Jeeves.

I like either Kiva Valley or Kiva Valley Central. Kiva is an indian word meaning? It used to be a bar on Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Flagstaff when I was driving cab there. I would check both the Navajo or Hopi languages for the true meaning of the word Kiva.

Kiva Central...........

Short, very catchy and easy to remember.

Consider a transitional history.
For the "early era" name it Kiva Valley Railroad then as the years pass, the company decides to freshen and liven up its image to the public as well as its customer..........hence the Kiva Central which has a modern ring to it. You can have a KVRR paint scheme that looks weather worn on your earlier era locomotives while your newer era units would feature a snappier more modern scheme.

Modeler Dean Freytag did this on his layout years ago that appeared in an MRR issue. His SD9s had a brown paint scheme with small roman style lettering, while his newer EMD units featured a cool looking green paint scheme with larger "Tahoma" style lettering. He was conveying that his railroad was in the middle of a transition and that one of the easiest ways to display this was with the paint schemes.

Since this is a local operation that was built to transport a local product to a connection I think the local name sounds good. Kiva Valley R.R. I hope that helps.

Funny you would say that. I almost did that before the poll, th combo of the two but i axed it for it would be too long. I even had a knick name for that road.. KV & NE "The Cove Knee"

Well, I have had been thinking about it off and on for the last few years goign back and forth with other names and ideas. In May we moved into our house and started with the new layout. Well, I have gotten just about all the track down and have been going full bore... but needed a name. I had the gist of it, but couldnt quite pull the trigger so i put it up here. I wanted the most honest to goodness "railraod" sounding name. I figure if thre ever was a group of people who know waht a good name was, I would find it here

Besides, with all the goofy polls going up over the past year, thought I would try and have one that was entertaining and that would actually matter. This name will be my road for long, long time ya know.

Your on to somethign I think. I have been going round and around with this name hting for awhile. it looks like Kiva Valley Rail Road is goign to be the winner. I can do the KVRR for reporting marks in the stock, and maybe the the KV letters on the modern engines. With the full name on the tenders.... ideas ideas....

KVRR? Kishacoquillas Valley Railroad? (Yes, it was a real railroad). I usually don't respond to polls, but this has been one of the more entertaining.

Remember, little railroads often had big sounding names. Owner's ego I guess. Of your choices I'd stick with just Kiva Valley (KV). Although, selector's Kiva Creek sounds good too.

I like the way Kiva Valley sounds. May even want to use a variation of the California and Arizona scheme and your line could use one of the former Santa Fe branches.

And don't forget the Black Mesa & Lake Powel is a big coal hauler in Northern AZ (all be it in a closed mine-power plant loop....and a bizarre electrified isolated line)....but it’s still a railroad that hauls coal in AZ.

I voted for Kiva Valley, but what about your 1955 being KVRR and teh present day just KV. It reflects a corporate change while keeping the heritage of the company.

Old style could be Kiva Valley Railroad

New style KIVA VALLEY maybe with an underline coming from the K under Kiva and a line from the V over Valley. (Think new BNSF logo)
