Although, people are getting $600 for empty XBOX 360 boxes...

Amazing how the most responded to threads are those concerning what an ebay seller wants for an item and what an ebay bidder is bidding.

Perhaps, but it sure is fun.

And it's cheap, too.

I just saved $5,000 by not buying a Tenshodo Crown Big Boy that's non-functional. The frosting on the cake is, I get to laugh at the person who has s $202.50 bid on a Rivarossi FM A unit that was done for Lionel in Texas and Pacific colors back in the 50's. What makes it even more delicious is that the bid is still under the reserve.

OTOH, that's not nearly as funny as the guy who paid $360 for the same unit painted in SP "Golden State" colors.

Beanie Babies anyone?

Andre

I saw that Big Boy on eBay a few days ago. I was amazed at the price too![:O] I don't think the OMI Big Boys even retailed for that much when they came out! I've seen some nice Sunset Big Boys go for less than $500.[:D]

Here's another ludicrously priced item. http://tinyurl.com/bhn3v

It's a piece of junk. Despite that, it has 2 bids on it.

It may be just me, but I really don't care how rare it is. Junk is junk, even if it's the only piece of junk of its kind still existing in the world.

Shoot, I have a Rivarossi UP FEF-3 from from the initial1981 run in two tone gray. Not only that, I have the "Overland" cars to go with it. The loco runs quite well given the the 3 pole motor in it.

I should sell the set on eBay.

With a reserve of $20,000.

Andre

That guy must be crazy! Who would pay $5K for a brass loco that does not even run! There have been a lot of these types of things on eBay the past few weeks. I don't get it!

If this model is, indeed, a "Crown" series, maybe it should advertised in the jewlery section instead of toys and hobbies. $5,000 pieces of jewelry are locked up in a safe and never displayed for fear of theft. That is where this model would have to go if anyone purchased it.

I admit I'm a sucker for older brass locos buuut not quite that level of a sucker that would spring for that piece. I bought 2 Key Import Big Boys, 1 off of ebay the other from Mitchell's and neither one hit more than 1,000 CDN after exchange, customs etc. Your right I was thoroughly disgusted at how both ran right out of the boxes no problem and with tenders no less! What is this world coming to?!!!!

It sure is a great deal, it's just not a great deal for the buyer, only the seller.

It makes me wonder how much he's gonna ask for it when it gets to his restoration bench and he gets it running. THEN he's gonna ask for some real money!!![:D]

What does the book say a Serial # 2 signed is worth? I have no idea, but it may be reasonable. Remember collecting and model RRing are NOT the same thing, AT ALL.

Of course, for the $2500 Keys, you are probably deprived of the fun of getting it to run. Crazy thing probably runs right out of the box....who would want that?

I saw this thing up there before and obviously no one bought it. I really can see the logic in it. Even thinking from the mind set of a rich man, I still could'nt grasp it.

Maybe this guy has put it up for sale so many times that he needs the $5k just to recover his selling expenses. [:D]

Only an idiot would pay that much for a non-functioning brass loco even if it is a Tenshodo Crown.

Unless, of course, the price of raw brass ingots go up to around $2,000 an ounce.

Near as I can tell from this (see diagram toward bottom) http://www.rand.org/publications/MR/MR1377/MR1377.appd.pdf, the price of brass ingots is running around $800 per long (i.e. 2240 lb) ton. That's a lot of brass Big Boys, Crown or otherwise.

No thanks.

Andre
