The ICRy's lack of freight cars is bogging the system down. Hopefully that will change soon. I'm going to get this for my GP38-2 so i don't have to paint over it

This thread is making me home sick. I grew up in Homewood, IL and the IC ran right through there. I used to love just sitting at the train station there watching the freights come out of Markham Yard and the Metra trains coming to and from Chicago. I'd sit there for hours on end just watching trains.

However, when I began modeling earlier last year, the IC never even crossed my mind as a basis to model from. It was so obvious that I completely missed it. So, after much debate, I decided to go with what I know and ordered a pair of GP-40's in the Death Star scheme which should be here some time next week. Looking forward to getting started on that.

My wife and I ordered a new trackplan from Atlas, HO Code 100, #10005 if you want to take a look at it on their website. The only thing I'm wondering is what to make of the two spurs coming out of it. I'd like to add two industries commonplace to the line, just that I don't remember offhand what some of the biggies were out there. I'm planning on going the route south of the suburbs like around the Kankakee area which if I recall is a lot of farm land. It's been over 12 years since I've lived up there, so my memory is a little clouded.

First Hobby in Decatur, Illinois, has Illinois Central SD40-2 Broadway Limited HO scale with sound in stock -- I ordered one last night. They have 2 different road numbers available for those who can afford it.

atlas GP40's? I want 2 of them but can't find them anywhere. the Walthers ADM grain elevator may be a possible industry.

Yes, that's it. I forgot about internettrains. $103 is a lot but it's the only place that has them. If my LHS had them they'd be around $85-$95

Dingoix, I was looking at that Walthers ADM kit and it looks like it would fit quite nice with the theme I'm looking at. Thanks for the tip on that.

No problem. I'm going to have that on my layout too. I thought it was a typical midwestern industry.

Good to hear dingoix. ADM would be good for the Kankakee area. Good to hear that the GP40's are still being sold. Thanks for the information cacole.

I learned a lot from that video. I never knew GP40's were used ONLY for intermodal.

CACole, Do you by any chance have any shots of the MP Doodlebug? I live in Dupo, Il and was wondering. Also looking for shots of the Dupo engine facilities. As for the IC I grew up in East Carondelet, and the IC came through town and crossed the old M&O and went to the river. Does anyone know much about this line? It crossed the Mo-Pac and the TRRA in North Dupo then I believe it went on up through Centerville, Il and joined the St. Louis District at "CHURCH" where the East end of the IC yard in E.St Louis was.
The only good thing that came out of the IC/GM&O Merger was that the IC took so long to paint anything that there was STILL GM&O and IC equipment running around 15 years after the merger!

I like those dingoix. I like the forward. I think it looks like a GP11 but thats just me. I have an idea for building a new locomotive for my railroad. It will be a SD70RCW. It will be a combo of a SD70, SD80MAC, and a Dash 9. It will have the frame, trucks, and motor of a SD80MAC, body of the SD70, and the cab from the Dash 9. I dont know when production will begin but it will be later this year. I like your sig pic dingoix
