I would, if you get a lot of locos, use a few tracks on the other side of the turntable, like a yard for engines. I wish I had one of these, it would make storing my 18 engines simpler.
As for a roundhouse, whatever looks good. And don't rule out scratchbuilding, it's not that hard, and you can add more details later.

Heyy Everyone! Im getting too the good part of my layout...the turn table and roundhouse. i have the atlas turntable but i need a round house. i looked at the atlas one and i dont like it. i want too create like a 5 or 6 or mayb 7 stall round house. i stocking up on engines and dont know where too put them! well my layout is coming home too me soon me and my uncle are almost done with it. when its here ill post a pic. so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Keith, www.discounttrainsonline.com are selling them at 86dollars and 10cents each. That's a good saving.
They are a bit slow but apart from that I have had no trouble with them.

heyy guys ya my lhs has an n scale layout and a ho scale layout. I tried out the conrail and it runs good. it doesnt take switches on his layout good because its such a big engine. but i think im going too get it when i get paid at the end of the month for the usual dog walking business. lol thnx guys!

I've seen the HO GP35s, had 2 of them for a while, didn't like them too much, but they ran ok even if the detail was a bit lacking. (The whole cab was misproportioned)

ya it is realy stupid too go around gates. me and my uncle where "train hunting" if u might and we pulled upp to a gate and they were down!!!! so we sat there and saw 3 guilford units with an auto train and this idiot goes around the gate and believe me i almost had too close my eyes because that guy was from me to my computer away from that engine! It was amazing! i mean thats called flirting with death! also i heard they guy that got hit by the mbta actually parked on the tracks! can you say SUICIDE!!! i dont believe it! poor engineer [V]

I get it....like the rare EMD F-10 [:)]. I love this hobby! Prototype is not a requirement, but a choice. My main "artistic license" is running 40's and 50's roads as if they were merged at that time; as in SP, C&NW, Rio Grande, like you see nowadays. (UP is dead to me. [xx(])

I just came up with a plan to start my railroad. I'm going to buy some foam and 1X4 & 1X3 and start a rural area that is part of my larger plan. The module will be about 8 feet X I'm not sure yet. Maybe a foot plus a few inches. The future urban area will be a bit wider.

I believe I did, but I'll have to ask my ex-wife if she still has any of them. I have a clear memory of an FP7 in bloody nose, sitting at the platform at 3rd and Townsend, that I may have shot. As for Richmond, there's a turntable and a gaggle of engines old and new. I was last there a few years back, so I don't know what's there and how accessible it is, but I'll give it a shot someday. I like going there. Once we were sitting at a cafe in Pt. Richmond nearby and a giant orange C44-9 (I'm pretty sure) pulled up and sat idling next to the patio where our table was. It was waiting for a switching move connected with it's train. Man, those are big! My group was nervous. I'm modeling in HO, its so much easier for the time/money challenged to find supplies and kits, and N would be a little blurrier for me.

My freelance railroad, the Alberta Pacific used exclusively FM diesels until the late 1960s when it bought SD45s, and SW1500s, as well as the new FMs, H30-66, H36-66 and H20-46 (or was it 64?) for branchline service. It is widely cedited for keeping FM in business until the SD40-2 finished it off.

Morning Mike, Keith, etc. I've heard it said that raising children is like being pecked to death by chickens, Mike. What do you yhink? Of course I love them completely, though. The gravity of it all.
When I came to S.F. in 1968, I saw SP FP7's, GP-9's, SD-9's, SD-45's, FM switchers and I believe FM Trainmasters that were on the commute line to the S.F. Peninsula. Bloody nose paint scheme, gray with red nose. My nostalgia is pretty active with those days, but I like modern also. I model 50's, and a little 60's. I wi***here were more bloody nose painted, quality plastic locos. I'll be building an FM H12-44 on an Athearn S-12 drive with a Cary body from Bowser. that seems to be the only way to have an FM without the rounded windows like the Atlas models. The SP's didn't have rounded windows. I like the way the FM's look, like a cross between a brick and an elephant in the SP colors. The rounded windows break up the look too much for my taste. I'm rather talkative after coffee.

Me? I think that double slip swotches are really cool, and really expensive. Less fabcy trackwork is better for us low budget types.

They ARE our future, after all. Model railroading can help keep kids out of things such as drugs, pornography, etc., and if adults shun then from our great hobby, then some would be likely to run to these things as an alternative.

Stick around and enjoy all the forum, and chime in whenever you want. This is a great place to learn about everything Model Railroading, and also a great place to share what you know.

Your age may put off a few of the more curmudgeonly folks here, but don't let that stop you. We have a mixed bag of members, and quite a few are younger folks.

I'm just short of 50 myself, and I sure have a lot left to learn. Maybe you know something I don't - don't give up on the forum before I have a chance to find out what it is!

Not that you truly bothered me, but I will repeat myself, this did happen over on the Garden Railways thread. That evolved into a topic about multiple coffee shops, which progress into a flame war. I've been in a few of these myself, and they just take away from the fun of the forum, so I'd rather not see that go on here. I can pull three topics off the top of my head that lead into flamers, and none of them were any fun...[V]

Normally I don't even bother opening threads like this but the title seemed rather "odd" and curiousitry unfortunately got the better of me.

I am still curious......why doe anyone need a thread "Lets just talk trains" when there are 88 cabillion threads here and at other kalmbach train related message board sites all talking about trains. People are already talking about them in every way shape viewpoint and aspec imaginable. Not only that the thread topics help define what is being discussed so one can choose to learn or converse on aspects of interest. "Lets talk trains" seems pretty generic and doen't really point to what kind of discussions one wants to have.

What is the purpose of a second Coffee Shop? We have one, and it has proven very popular. Why create a second one? If you want to talk about trains, there is a whole forum for you to browse. The Garden Railways forum went through this, and they had a multitude of "coffee houses." It got rather confusing, and annoyed many. I'd rather not see this go on here.

This was tried once before on here, the title of the topic even included something along the lines of a coffee shop, and it didn't fly. Why not just join with the currently existing Coffee Shop?

I agree with scott, why make a new coffe shop when the old is just fine and dandy
