What is your latest project?
Posted by Trainnut484 on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 4:14 PM
Alright, cooler weather is here [tup][yeah], or will be for some, and the urge to get some projects done is strong. I'm going to weather a P2K GP7 and touch up a Walther's caboose. That should keep me busy for about a week.

What is your next or first project?

Take care,

Russell

When you say cooler weather, yes, it did snow yesterday(LOL)
I plan to get another decal set, finish numbering 2 SD40s and a GP35, then decal the new container crane, and after that, draw the lines on my N railway, and maybe get a little ballast/track laid. I have nothing else todo...
Oh, one other thing, I am planning to bike down a road to see if it will allow me to circumvent the Bearspaw Resivior, and alow me to bike to cochrane along the right of way.

Getting my Bachmann 4-4-0 to work properly. It's an older one with a pancake motor, and doesn't have the power to run smooth unless everything moves freely. But I like it anyway.[:D]

I have a SD-9 Athearn that needs a new set of (reduction)gears. I already weathered and added details ( Mu hoses, Strobe light, Nathan 3 chime, speedo cable and Bell complete with air line)to the Powered and Dummy Units.
Pay attention to what you read here, you may actually answer someone's question!

Have something running by Christmas 2005, not 2006! Pictures under my signature. Anybody know what loco I have a picture of? Bought it in a hobby shop, it is from the 1960's or 70. It is on the page.

I'm going to fini***he last of the carpet and paneling in my train room, then begin the new layout.

Also, I'm going to get started kitbashing a PRR H10s using a couple of Minitrix locomotives.

Currently working on finishing up the locomotive service facility I started on back in early September. Here's a few pics of it. I think I'm getting pretty close to calling this section finished.

That looks great, Eddie!

I usually have two or three projects going on at the same time, so in no particular order:

1) Finish laying track for the 'upper' level of my layout, including some train detection blocks and a reversing loop.
2) Install decoders in my passenger F-units, including wiring for separate headlights and Mars lights.
3) Master my new Paasche H airbrush and get some more weathering done.

And after that, start building the sub-roadbed for the last part of the track, the 'lower' level where another reversing loop and the staging yard will be.

Got tired of waiting for SOMEONE to produce an RS-36 - so I decided to go at it myself. As per usual, I figure by the time I finish building a couple of these, one of the manufacturers will announce one for production. [;)]

I am going to tackle a secret project [^] that I've been waiting to do for months now. I finally have the base materials I need. You guys will have to wait until it is finished before you get any of the details.[}:)][;)]

I'm currently working on my Mustang but I need to get back to assembling my 0-4-0 switcher. I'm at the valve gear and I just got the last tools I needed to put them together.
This is my first engine kit so I'm taking it slow.

Nice Job! I hate to break the news to you, but white metal RS-36 kits are available, (and have been for 20 years) from Tiger Valley Models, (http://www.lynnet.com/~tigervalley/), powered $ 120.00, unpowered $55.00.
These monsters weigh in at about 27 oz ! Don't feel bad, I built 3 of them before I found out about Tiger Valley!

TVM's units use the Hobbytown style drive (with a Sagami motor) and while they will pull the wallpaper off the wall and run at prototypically correct speeds, they can't be MU'd with most other comercial drives, so I buy the dummies and repower them with Atlas/Kato drives.

I have made molds for the correct dynamic brake, the pilot hose pockets and coupler surround, contact me if you want castings (see my profile)

Eddie that is one nice scene, looks like you put some major time into it.
Has for me i am in the process of completely switching railroads. Going from modeling the Soo Line to modeling the NYC. I was getting really bored, has soon as my old layout made MR i said now what do i do? I had met my main goal, getting in MR.
Bought a book on eBay for $10.00 on NYC lighting stripes and then i was hooked.
Now i have a whole new drive pushing me again. I get to resreach a new railroad, repaint awhole lot of power, and rolling stock.
So far I have a FA1 ABA, 1gp7, a fairbanks switcher, rs11, and 2F's AA painted and striped. Now what part do i want to model, nyc was much bigger that the old Soo Line.
This has been a very refreshing time for me. If you have been thinking about anew layout, railroad, maybe a whole new gauge go for it. It may work wonders for you to, and get the wheels up stairs turning again with a renewed drive and desire.

Wow, Eddie, you sure have the eye! Very nice setting, and nicely captured in the photo, too.

Well, let's see....I have been running my new layout since late March, and it needs some improvement in order to last me another 24 months or so. Here is what I hope to do over the next five months:

1. Remove a silly S-curve on my mine spur....what was I thinking!
2. Somehow... still haven't figured it out...I have to build a staging area or a yard, plus a
passing track near my station, or this layout's days are really numbered;
3. finish building a Harriman Combo car, and a Barber Shop, plus adding more trees.

I am currently researching a set of F3s or F7s to build an ABA set of Great
Northern passenger Fs as they appeared in the mid 50s. My starting point
is Highliner shells to be placed on Stewart/Kato drives. I have just finished
detailing and painting a BLI SW7 as GN 166-an MU equipped switcher, and
am finishing up reworking passenger F7A 280A.

Well, I just finished ripping out a 2' by 3' section of the layout. I plan to build a small meat packing plant on two tracks in this area. This also allows me to inspect a curve and make any adjustments the 'easy way' before I put scenery back in! I guess this will be the W/E project.

Jeff, I got the As from my LHS after about 3 months on Walthers' back order.
The new run came and went in a flash. The B I had gotten last November at
our local Boeing Model Railroad Club swap meet. Believe me, I would like to
get more of them, they are the best ones available. I might try an Intermountais
shell at some time if Highliners continue unobtainable.[swg]

Thanks.. Intermountains aren't bad, highly detailed but I think the detail on the Highliner is a little bit more refined.. I guess I'll just put the 3 IMs together that I have to complete the F fleet..

My latest club project is a curved steel viaduct. It is a kitbashed MicroEngineering tall viaduct w/ many add on sections. The main problem with building it is, it starts with straight track that eases into the 42" radius about half way through the bridge. Templating and abutment placement was very critical. It is tempararily positioned into our mountain div and wired w/ feeders for our fall open house in 3 weeks. The next phase is to remove the bridge for scenery behind and below it.
My latest home project is detailing 6 Stewart F units that were special runs for Bessimer Hobbies- These were the last of any run before the sale to Bowser. The units are in Circus paint and includes 2 F3s updated to F7 specs. The only B unit #408 was also part of the run. the others are F7 phase 1s. Still have a way to go but enjoy every minute of it.

Right now, I'm working on a trio of ex-PRR P70 coaches. One is going to get PC green, while the others will get PRR tuscan, but with gold PC worms. I also have a nearly-finished NH "American Flyer" coach. But, the new thing I bought tonight was a seriously easy project...one former PRR class POS21 sleeper-observation car. Since all I have to do is take a Rivarossi smooth-side car, and repaint it, I'm tempted to model the entire class. Good thing there are only 2 :D
