Weekend Photo Fun(9/30/05-10/02/05)

Art--as to the Yellowstone, it will take a short radius for its length (most older brass has more sideplay than the newer), but 24" is about as small a radius as I've ever tried with it, and even then it just tiptoes. One problem is the tender, it's a pedestal-type 4-10-0 and the sideplay isn't as pronounced as the tenders on either the Lionel or Genesis Challengers. Brass articulateds aren't 'double' articulated like the newer plastic ones, the rear set of drivers is fixed under the boiler and only the front set swivels, like the prototype. Even on my 34" radius, the Yellowstones have a pretty fearful overhang (I have to be VERY careful where I put my tunnel entrances), but it looks kind of neat and scary, LOL!
But even at that, my brass articulateds will go around curves that make my non-articulated brass 2-10-2's and 4-8-4's squeal.

One of my fellow club members called my ALCo ugly! GAH! IT IS A THING OF BEAUTY![:D]

Quick suggestion for coal hoppers: Heavier on black, lighter on rust. But regardless, they look good.

An ALCO with an SD60M and ROADRAILERS? Hehe, well, whatever works! [:D] Personally, I like ALCO's. I agree, their styling can be a little...y'know, but come on..AMERICAN Locomotive Company. (Hence AMERICAN)

Scott, one thing that would look good would be an intermodal train going in "single file" with the SD60M leading and the ALCO pushing along. I don't exactly know why they call it "single file," or why they do it. But it would look good!

Ahh, that reminds me...I forgot to state as I did on e...Nevermind(I keep forgetting I'm not on on the other forum)...That this was a mess-up that was slated for the model train underworld...well, okay, maybe it wasn't that bad in its lifetime[;)], but then I decided to try Rich Divizio's rust technique. That lead to several findings, and as it turns out, I have a photo(Film) of a hopper that is just as rusty and looks about the same. Can't tell the roadname(duh), because of the rust. It was caught in my local yard back in '99, in the middle of a freight train, heading south(Out of the yard.) I STILL have not gotten my scanner fixed, so I can't post the photo, or I would. I need to learn to use photos off of Fallen Flags from now on so I can show them[;)]

Missed the WPF because of the lockdown. Went to the Brampton Train Show at athe Brampton Fair Grounds in beautiful Brampton Ontario (Did I say Brampton enough?...LOL). Big shout out to the Orangeville Short Line club...Loved your layout!

UPSCSX, that hopper is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over weathered, even if it got that rusted, they would still need to see the reporting marks. I've seen covered hoppers that sat on sidings for 25 years and looked cleaner.

Nice work, everyone. I hope to make some changes and improvements to my layout over the winter. I'll post some pix when I get some new scenes. In the meantime, I sure enjoy all the fine work you present here. Thanks.

More progress on the Railbox. I added a coat of dull yellow chalk, then Dullcoted. Compare it to the neon yellow color "before."

Very nice. It's a great little kit and full of personality. I painted the full kit by hand. I thought the plastic colours were not very good. I also added clear plastic for glass in the windows which was not included. When I get to the super detailing point on my layout I will definitely look into lighting.
