Weekend Photo Fun(9/30/05-10/02/05)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, September 30, 2005 9:43 PM
I decided to start up Weekend Photo Fun this weekend. Due to trolling, the MR forums have been locked down. Hopefully it's only temporary. But let's make ourselves a "hotel(?)" here on the trains.com forums. I don't have anything really new, but here's something from a little bit back.

My first weathered model for eBay.

Okay, those pictures are lame, I know, but I'm just trying to get thing's up and running again.

[EDIT] Relocated back to MR forums.

Glad to see it, now lets get some more pictues up. I would post some, but my model railroad still has pink ground cover, I just need some paint that has been on backorder for weeks.

Whoa, am I relieved! At least a little bit--I tried to get on the MR forum and it was locked and naturally, all of my well-honed Catholic Guilt set in and I thought it was MY fault and I was the only one locked out. Whew!
Hope Bergie and the crew can get the Trolls weeded out so that we can get back to something approaching normal.
Anyway, I'm still having discussions with my sony, but I shot a few pictures of my newer Yellowstone. I took off the Worthington feedwater heater and replaced it with a PSC Elesco bundle-type, then replaced the old Akane pumps with some Cal-Scales. So here goes:

#3903 on Dark Canyon Bridge, east side of Yuba Pass.

Thought I'd be different and take a fireman's side view--there's always more neat things on the fireman's side, anyway.

The Peoria & Pekin Union, they are an OLD railroad, sort of a smaller version of St Loius Terminal or Chicago Beltway, they are now the TZPR, being leased by G&W

Here are my other contributions for the weekend.

A pair of ex-Susquehanna Dash 8-40B's lead a hot shot intermodal train. (Blurry)

My layout. It is a MESS! [:P] Please excuse the burrliness, as my camera's battery was running low(It seems to take blurry photos when the battery weakens.) I am planning to create a dog-bone shaped layout. It looks nothing like a dog's chewing bone, though, as many of you probably know.

A freight goes by as a trucker approaches. Notice the green and blue markings?[:D] Well, you know how layout-planning can be.

Oh, I forgot to mention. The speed limit's 40 and the train was goin' 5. [:D]

And next up on the chop-block... I MEAN weathering block...hehe..

An Athearn RTR PS 5277 RailBox. Thank you Athearn, I love that prototypical overspray on the roof![:)]

Tom--them Yellowstones are lookin' lovely. I miss working in the steam era. Most of what I've done lately is modern.

UPSCSX--I need a shorter name to call you by. Isn't your name Matt? That PS Railbox ought to be a good one. Speaking of Railboxes.....

Yeah, it's Matt.

Aggro, that RailBox is looking great! Already got it on my watch list. That other one looks good...although I don't know why you haven't seen any action on it as of yet...look for that to change[8D]

One more thing: Aggro, you need to join us over at modelrailroadforums.com until the lock-out is over. I've started a weathering thread over there and it is already a hit! I also plan on doing a step-by-step on my RailBox over there. I will post it over here if the MR forums are unlocked soon enough. I plan on staying there, but trains.com will still be my primary home...IF the MR forums are ever unlocked.

Here's a thread I started over on Model Railroad Forums. I would start it over here, but the lack of a MR forum seems to be an issue![:(!]

Aggro-May I be warranted a critique? The Railbox looks great, however, almost every Railbox I've seen that grimy has lettering like mine:
You know, faded to heck. I'm not saying I'm doing things better than you(We all know that's not true[:D]), but just some creative criticism.

About my Railbox: I scraped away most of the lettering with my trusty Xacto. It gives it the look of faded paint. Also, if you don't believe that, I saw a Railbox on Friday that looks very similar to this. Unfortunately, Mr. Camera's batteries were dead. I also saw a Railbox on Fallen Flags that had lettering very, very close to this as well.

That some good letter 'erasing' on your PS though.

[banghead] (Bangs head against wall) Well, I just embarrased the daylight out of myself. I guess I need to frequent Fallen Flags more often [8D] But really, that's the first I've seen that is that grimy with little fading of the lettering. Once again, I was not trying to downplay your work.

Good luck! (eBay)[:D]

I was out chasing the challenger last Sautrday here are some shots I got with Dad's trusty 35mm. Click ont the photo to enlarge, then you can see the detail.

I took this one from overhead on a bridge.
On Sunday it was parked in Boise here are some shots of the Boise depot.

Here is a couple of the parked Challenger, these remind you just what a beheamoth this thing is.

Now I am really thinking about those Athearn Genisis models.

Looks like my layout. They say there is a protoype for everything, I cann't find a pink railroad anywhere. Your buildings could use some weathering too.

If you look close at the station, you will see its not even finished, there is hole in the roof, and top of the tower is missing. [:D] Guess I need to finish before I weather the buildings. On a second note, I'm not sure I like all the buildings anyways

Lucky. It's a wonder that, even after trains, we have monry for even basic supplies.

Here's a faked-up photo of part of my Milwaukee staging yard. The background is a replacement for my basement wall.

I did nothing to hide the cork roadbed, or fake in ballast. This was just an experiment - I don't like photo fakery, so won't generally engage in it.

TWhite, I love that Yellowstone. Will it take 18" curves? Aggro and Mellow-Mike, I love your weathering. I hope to get enough running soon, to start on some of that. I will be back for some advice. I especially like the rust spot that then stains down. That looks hard to do.
Here is one more shot of the hunting scene. More to come when I get the Mt Sublime control panel working.

If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/ARTHILL/ Art

My photo is much more mundain, but you wouldn't believe the sense of accomplishment. I had to move an RO filter 4 feet to get it out of an area. This freed up some space that will be where the entertainment center will move. This in turn will clear the space for my basement layout.
