TooLate4Weekend Photos - Re-Done in the SUN! (pay no attention to that ugly roadbed...)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 12, 2005 10:09 PM
Sorry about the redundancy, but I was totally dissatisfied with how last night's indoor photos turned out (the shells "faded" paint didn't show) - so I decided to re-shoot them in direct sunlight. So, the links are the same, but the 5 loco model photos are different.

I did some actual modeling this weekend, but I didn't have time to snap pictures of my work in time for the weekend photo thread. I'm going to take these models to the 2005 Steel Mill Modelers' Meet next weekend in Medina, Ohio.

The first 5 model shots are of some Kato SD38-2 units painted for my fictional short line, the Iron Belt. I weathered them, but because of the crappy indoor lighting the weathering doesn't even show[banghead]. (I also included some shots of EJE prototypes used as weathering references.)

The next two shots are of a Kibri front-end loader adapted for handling red-hot slag in steel mills - I added protective chain-me***o the tires using a material called "tulle" from my 9yr-old daughters' discarded ballet tutu.

The final two shots are of a Kibri model of a Terex "off-road" [read: oversized] dump truck.

Anyway here they are - I put them in as links so the guys with slower connection speeds wouldn't get annoyed.

Great pictures, glad you got some late results from the weekend's work. One comment, the front of your engines could benefit from some vertical dry brushing of "black dirt" like the proto type photos. Give them a little more inservice look!
Will

P.S. I for one really appreciate having the links to the photos, speeds up access to the post so much faster. Thank you!!

P.P.S. Does this mean we won't see you in your tutu any more? What a sacrifice for the hobby![:D][:D][:(]

Good point Will, I plan on doing exactly that - after I get back from Medina.

Thanx Carl! Do you have any 'J' motive power running on your layout? If so, how about some pics?

Super work, Ken!! The paint scheme on the models is just terrific--work that good is almost enough to make me consider diesels, so STOP IT!! Just kidding--wonderful job.

Thanx for sharing that Carl!

Even though I'm not a Chicago native like yourself, I'm growing mighty fond of the 'J'! First, I like the simple elegance of their paint scheme; second, they are the closest real-world example of the type of road my fictional Iron Belt represents.
