Mellow Mike's advice is well meant, and Aggro says it is well taken. A good end to that slant on things.

Joe, that is a good story about Roman generals. I wonder if slaves were ever permitted to whisper in Ceasar's ear. He was in the same boat... [;)]

Now, what a great chance this is for all of the art critics on this forum to show their stuff. I personally am still doing paint by numbers so will have to get back to you when the paint dries. Aggro, you are a talented modeler.

With the time it takes per car (6-10 hours) , it wouldn't be possible to 'make a living' from it. I don't really have to, I still live at my parents house. [(-D] [sigh]

Actually, I'm saving the profit money to buy an Ionic Breeze. You know, that air purifier machine you see on TV. Then mabey I can breathe better.

working at it as if it were your job would mean you'd make about $75-$100 a day , certainly more than you'd make flipping burgers somewhere , and more fun . and i'm sure if you worked it out so you could do some parts on an assembly line you could get the time down . that's not too bad for someone living with his parents , careful they may start charging you rent !

realistically though , turning yourself into a model factory might take a lot of the fun out of it . maybe 4 or 5 a month would be better after all [:)]

When I first saw this I thought it was a "fool and his money soon parted" E-bay thread.

Nice work though

Okay. As I said in the beginning, I won't mention ending prices again. [|)]

And I didn't take it as a slam.

Thanks Joe,

It wasn't meant to be a slam, but as you said - advice from a compatriot.

Ouch ... but then I appreciate Mellow Mike willing to be honest. Aggro, don't take Mike's post to be a slam, just some advice for you to take and learn from. You do good work and no one wants to detract from that. However, there is a place for some good old fashioned humility ...

That's one reason why I'm refraining from posting to the recent "Joe Fugates's DVD ..." topic thread. It would be tacky and unprofessional for me to keep tooting my own horn in that thread.

I figure I'll just let the thread run its course. It means more if the thread and comments are completely unsolicited by me.

And one thing I like that the Romans did with their Generals that returned from a great conquest ... they had a slave ride with them in the chariot, and as they waved to the cheering crowds, the slave would ocassionally lean over and wisper in the General's ear, "Remember, all glory is fleeting ...". And about the Ionic Breeze, we tried one very similar out for a few weeks for free. It actually made my wife and son worse. I didn't notice a difference, but they were both noticeably stuffier and got better when we gave it back. The sales lady thought we were nuts, but we had far more improvement when we put laminate flooring in the bedrooms for about the same cost.

Good point! No matter how much to vacuum, and how good your vacuum is, and how many allergen filters the vacuum has, carpet is going to forever be a source of contaminants. A solid floor like laminate offers far less places for pesky allergens to hide and breed. Not to mention possible reactons to the materials used in the carpet and padding themselves (that 'new carpet' smell that is just annoying to some of us can be near deadly to others). The best thing anyone with severe allergies or other serious respiratory problems can do is replace carpets with solid flooring materials.

Geez, Aggro! Not bad enough that you post prototype photos on this forum but then you go and sell prototype cars on eBay! You're gonna be in big trouble now. [swg]

Seriously though, great work! I'll pay you my absolute highest compliment: I wish I could say I had done that work.

I've want one of those for quite some time.

Aggro, ozone is a powerful oxidizer, and binds itself readily to cellular material in your lungs causing damage. It has to be in significant concentrations to do that, and exposure would have to be over some time. I wonder if these machines are such a problem...? Would be worth checking it out.

Also, ozone is VERY hard on plastics and rubber, so keep the concentrations down in your home if you want electrical cords, appliances, rolling stock, etc. to last more than a couple of years.

Aggro, permit me an observation ...

Notice the cars with the photos taken from an oblique angle sold for far better prices and the one with the low oblique angle sold for the best price of all.

I think there's a message in there somewhere on how to present your work to generate the most interest and garner the best prices.

Very interesting ...

Actually, ozone is breathable - it's just poisonous! But there is controversy as to what level is really harmful.

I've had a couple of ionic breezes in my house for several years. They have done a great deal to calm my breathing problems. I used to get bronchitis at least once a year, and it hung on for weeks each time! With the ionic breezes the bronchitis is much less frequent, and much less intense when I do get it.

Sharper Image of course launched a HUGE lawsuit soon as the article ran. (Would make sense they would as this is their biggest profit item by far.)

(Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...I just want you to be healthy.)

On the good news side, I'm looking for your cars. When you start weathering C&O, I'll be right there cash in hand. :-D

Hey Aggro, put me on your want to know list as well.

Of course I am only looking for USRA cars (1920's) for my layout (hint, hint [:D] ) But who knows, I have friends who model using those modern diseasals and stuff and I may pass info on or look for some giftd for friends too. Keep up the fantastic work!

6-10 hours per car?

OK man, you have to get that time down so you're making $50/hr. Seriously.

Unless, of course, you're just doing this "for fun". There's nothing wrong with that either.
