WHAT NEW H-O LOCOMOTIVE SHOULD BE PRODUCED?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, August 28, 2005 10:02 PM
I keep hoping that one of the better makers of H-O trains will put out the following 2 models. One of the C&NW "crandall" units (converted U.P.E-9 B-units placed in commuter service in the 1970's) andeither of the 2 the Rock Island AB-6 units #750 or 751. these are unique locomotives and need to be produced. WHAT DO YOU THINK NEEDS TO BE PRODUCED??? MAYBE SOMEONE FROM ONE OF THESE FINE MANUFACTURERS (he says sucking up) WILL READ THIS AND MAKE US HAPPY WITH A GREAT NEW MODEL WHILE MAKING THEMSELFS SOME MUCH NEEDED REVENUE...(still sucking up...lol)

I'd like to see a good small 2-6-6-2T logging Mallet, along the lines
of Weyerhauser #110 or 111 or something similar. I'd also like to
see BLI do a couple of plastic-not brass-GN steam locomotives,
perhaps an S-1 Northern or (!) an R-2 2-8-8-2. I fear, however, that
I'm dreaming.[sigh]

I'll second that GN R-2. And I'll say a GN O-8, SP F5, and DMIR M4.

ALL of them. In mass quantity, in every road name available. I'm getting sick of seeing "temporarally out of stock" when ever I go looking for Canadian road names![:(]

I'd settle for several tank engines...2-6-2T and 2-8-2T, and I must say that that Mantua model is pretty good looking, Rick, so a good one in HO would be cool.

I still want a B&O EM-1 or "Big Six" steam loco in HO. Maybe one will be available by the time my layout is ready for it.

I can always hope...[:-^]

Oh, I'd also take a 4-truck Shay as a third choice.

A good 1890's-1900 era 4-4-0 (preferrably a Baldwin). That was the GP engine of the previous turn of the century and there are very few of them available.

A 2-8-0 like the NP F-1. Larger than the MDC engine but still smaller than the Bachman engines.

A good 1880's, 1890's 0-6-0 or 0-4-0. There are no early yard engines available other than a few brass engines. all the 0-6-0, 0-4-0 engines readily availabable are post WW1. And yes Virginia, they did switch cars during the first 75 years of railroading.

Not going to happen. Too few made. It would be a waste of tooling money.

It's an easy kitbash. There are plenty of E-8 or 9 available by several manufacturers.

HO Scale:

New York Central "Streamlined" Alco J3A Hudson. These were the 100 mph bullet heads that pulled the 20th Century Limited.

EMD SD40T-2. Would love to see this from P2K.

EMD FL9. Offered by ASModels but never produced. Went out of business.

GE U36B. Hoping that P2K jumps on this one.

GE New Haven EP5 "Jet". Unlikely as it was limited to two railroads (New Haven and Penn Central) but one can still dream!

Southern Pacific MT-5 (skyline casing, naturally) with a whole load of tender variations, like 120C-3, 120C-5, 120C-8 and 160C-1. The MT-5's were built with 160C-1's, but SP liked to play musical tenders.

Tenders available separately.

I want to see a MP36-3S. I think that if walthers can sell Metra F40PH's they should be able to sell plenty MP36's. If they came out with the '36-3S they'd probably also make Caltrains '36-3C model.

Selector, I'm not a big fan of Mantua's 2-6-6-2. For one thing,
it's too big for my tastes and the type of 2-6-6-2T I'm looking
for is a saddle tank type, not a side tank. I really like the looks
of the small Mallets like the Weyerhauser engines I mentioned
or White River Lumber #7 or similar. I'd also like to see Bachmann
do a Pacific Coast Shay. The one they have now is really beautiful.
but it is a very early prototype. Just my[2c]+[2c] more.

C40-8M (Overland doesn't count-too expensive)

SD50F and 60F (Kaslo Shops make them but I haven't heard much of them so I don't know if I should trust its reliability)

Have they made Acela sets?

Nope... I'm down south in LA-LA land. Torrance actually. Not far from the Lomita Railroad Museum.

You're all close to the California State Railroad Museum. That's pretty cool. I need to get up there and visit again as it's been a few years.

Walthers made runs of H10-44s and H12-44s years ago. Some can be found on E-bay occasionally and maybe on consignment at hobby stores.
