This thread has lead me to another project - photographing many of my models! While I probably do have color prints of most of them, I do want them in digital form as they look better than scanned prints.

Here's another fun one:

Made from plans in a very old RMC, it's a ficticious "mini turbine". Basic model is an MDC boxcab diesel with all sorts of diesel bits and parts grafted onto it, including a pilot from a plastic dummy steam engine. The tender is one I found at a local train show. Lettered for my Fundy Northern using dry transfers. I did a lot of this silliness when I first got back into the hobby, now I mostly do prototype stuff.

More to come!

BobBoudreau

It's ugly enough to have be prototypical! Despite being a steam only railway CEO, I love it!

It's got a tender...isn't that close enough?! [:o)]

Really, all of you, great work...very inspiring!

Awesome work Bob! I love the little detaills on your Climax, like the brakeman's lantern hanging off the headlamp.
I have seen the Canfor SW units and yours definetly looks the part.
Finally with the MDC boxcab chasiss under the turbine it was obviously built for pulling, not speed!

The thread seems to have swung over to deisels so I guess I have to re-balance it!

it's my MDC/roundhouse HOn3 2-8-0t (unpowered) they marketed this kit as one of their three-in-one kits where you could build a 0-8-0t, a 2-8-0t or a 2-4-4-0t (with some major kitbashing. I have picked up the NWSL re-gear kit for the little monstor but now I'm looking for a decent (and cheap) motor for it.

For my second steamer I have an old Mantua pacific that I re-built for a fellow club-member

I stripped it, added brass wire railings, sanding lines and conduits coming from the generator to the headlight. I also scratchbuilt the elsco water heater and added the lines for that. I painted and decaled it of Canadian Pacific and weathered it using a light over spray of grimy black. I looks better in person, the camera didn't get a very good picture.

Night Crawler, what the heck to you call that last little loco? I'd like something like that for my grain elevatior, how did you make it? It looks like two noses from a locomotive and a cab, with a milled frame underneath to me, but how did you do it?

Bob: Didn't you do a Point St. Charles "Sweep" conversion? Or did I imagine that? If so, could you post a pic. I'm thinking of doing one myself.

For those who don't know, a "Sweep" is a SW-1200 with a GP7/9 hood. I don't know why this was done, but, it looks cool. Here is the web address to a drawing of one, which is my total source of all I know about this puppy (which is not a lot[:p]) I didn't put in a direct link, cuz I'm not sure the site allows it. If anyone knows if I can show the websites address completely, let me know, and I'll edit this.

Start it with: http//:

paintshop.railfan.net/images/belanger/psc_sweep.html

Very neat site of loco drawings so you can doodle color schemes. Gets me through meetings at work.....

You read my mind. When taking photos of some of my other models, I intended to shoot the SWeep, but it got overlooked. Here it is:

I made this model after seeing one three-quarter front view in "Extra 2200 South" magazine. I used an Athearn chassis and cab, and a long hood from an Athearn GP-9 "Geep", similar to what the prototype CN did. Their SW-1200RS diesels were having cooling problems, so they grafed the long hood from GP-9s onto them. There were several made 5-10 or so.

When I made my model, I did not have a photo of the back of the cab, so I left it stock. I later found out the window arrangement was quite different. But I did not bother to change my model.

The second shot shows the roof details, how the dual exhaust pipes were installed where the dynamic brake fan used to sit. I borrowed a photo of the prototype roof and changed my model after it was built to this more correct representaion.

The truck sideframes are from a Juneco conversion kit to make an SW1200RS from an Athearn SW-7. Also in the kit was the bell, pilot filler, cab numberboards and lights, fuel tank sides and cooling coils and the walkway steps. I don't think this kit is available any more.

I did the 2-4-4-0 from the same kit! This one isn't powered either. I think I saw an article somewhere a long time ago where someone did power it. Here's my version:

Good modeling from all. I'm awaiting my Cannon Digital Rebel that was ordered through the Base Exchange so I can post some photos of my ongoing ON30 to S scale 2-6-0 conversion photos.

Just a few of the major modifications in progress. re- guaged drivers, NWSL for the pilot wheel and tender , Bachman cab, cut down and reworked/redetailed to S, reduced/reshaped domes, modified cylinder castings, running board modfications and removal of all O scale details.

Great little engine! I also saw an article on powering the 2-4-4-0t on Ebay with all the powering parts but it was a little over my budget and at the time building the articulated was beyond my modeling abilities, maybe later though! I am wondering though, how did you mount the two parts of frame and second set of cylinders under the body?

Fundy N. Bob, that Mini is great, would like to see more imagination like this within the hobby, it's certainly not silliness, I would call it creativity, and thinking outside the box. maybe if steam engine designers back then used their imagination instead of making all steam engines look sort of the same we would have radical looking machines (remember Burt Ruttan)--good work

This is a better site to draw at.
http://trainiax.0catch.com/mescaleloco.htm

He paints his own, and takes other peoples paintings of his engines.. I paint them myself, and since other people contribute, it gives opurtunities for a bunch of patch jobs. look for Alec Holmes in the contributed painting section I have WC stuff and ANS ( Alec And Southern) and ill be gettin a bunch of soo on there soon.
