3 guesses and the first 2 don't count! [(-D]

I was so positive this name would generate an "already-in-use" error message, but - surprise, surprise - it didn't! If I could do it all again I would choose the name "prometheus" because I'm a pyromaniac and I love steel mills (esp. the hot-metal processing part). But I'm with tWhite, I don't want to lose any of the pretty little stars below my name...

(Why am I always dead last in these things?) "ValorStorm" is a short story I submitted to the "Strange New Worlds" contest in 1998. I was... not among the winners. It's a great story, and I've posted it permanently on my web site. Go read it, NOW!

One of the contest rules was that nothing in the Star Trek "bible" could be changed in the short story submissions. I didn't actually replace the Starship Enterprise with the Starship ValorStorm, but I don't think the judges bothered to read that far.

Since then my web site title, its URL, my email, and nearly all my user names are ValorStorm. It just felt like a cool name for an ancient starship. I coined it myself.

All very rational explanations. I wanted to use my first name, Andy, but of course it was taken. I already had Andy typed in so I remembered an episode when I was a teenager. I was picking apples with a crew of guys from Jamaica, lots of singing and joking going on. I told a joke that got everybody going and one of the Jamaican guys said, "Awww, Andy...mon...boy..." I wore that handle for the balance of my teenage years. Strangely enough, now that I'm approaching 50, nobody calls me that anymore. Again, not very trainy but easy to remember. Now was that obscure enough for ya?

Guess I'd better throw my 2 cents in here- philnrunt-
phil is this guy I know, he seems really cool and bos and gear and fab...no wait, thats Paul McCartney, I'm phil! Yeah, thats it. Sorry, sometimes I get a bit confused.
-n- a cheap way of saying "and"
-runt- My best friend, my puppydawg. She comes in to work with me, she pretty much goes everyplace I can get by with taking her. She is our department K-8, still practicing to get to K-9. If I show up anyplace without her, I never hear the end of it.
And this is a good post, seems like there are quite a few creative folk out there, Then again, when you take 2x4s, plaster, and moss and create a miniature world, I guess thats a given!
Hope to hear more.

WD45 - I took that from my other fascination; antique tractors. It was a 1950's model from Allis-Chalmers, and I began using it on a tractor board, and just use it for everything so I don't have to continually come up with different names.

At work a clean QA sheet indicating we did our job right is often unofficially referred to as an 'attaboy' or 'atttagirl' depending on who gets it. The day I signed on I had received more than the usual number of "Attaboy" sheets so it was the first thing I thought of.

Real name is Cor Bos and in Europe we (used to) call 4 axels locomotives "BoBo" and six axels "CoCo". So leaving two letters out of my real name would give a nice link to railroading.

Well I guess this is a no brainer: Great Northern Rail Road
They were the trains I grew up with and loved since I was old enough to run out the track and see them. That I guess was since I was about five or six years old. To see that flag fall was truly a heart breaker. It was almost like someone died in the family. :(

chateauricher = Chateau-Richer ... the city in which I now live -- bought a house and moved there in Sept 2004.

I am a night-owl/vampire (I work full-time nights) and could have gone with something like that for a username, I suppose. Oddly enough, I usually sleep best when the sun shines...

I could have chosen CFCR, for chemin de fer de Charlevoix (a shortline CN subsidiary) ... the railroad that passes my house.

I could have gone with IslandViewRR... the name I have chosen for my layout (because I can see the Island of Orleans from the window in my layout room); but I only decided on that name after signing on here. So I use it instead as my AOL address reserved for train-related correspondance.

My wife has a lot to do with my screen name.
When I go down to the local MARC station to watch trains, my wife would say,
"are you going choochin again?"
I thought that would be a unique name but lo and behold.
choochin1,and choochin2 were taken so I would be choochin3.

Cheers,
Carl T.

Allegheny Central is the name of my model railroad (got the idea from Tony K. of RMC and MR Magazine who called his freelanced railroad Allegheny Midland). 46 is the year I was born.

5415 = the # of the first locomotive I bought when I got back into the hobby in 1997 which happens to be an Athearn SD40-2.

My two hobbies; Model Railroading and I collect Rock N Roll Oldies (was a radio disc jockey for years). Railroad tracks and rock & roll tracks. My first name is Jack. Could've done JacksTracks, but i thought the "RR" in "trrx" was cute since it captured Railroads and Rock n Roll. If I was doing it over, I'd just use my name.

Well, almost solves the memory problem. I have a Very Local Home Page (it lives on my C-drive) with user names and passwords for most of the sites my wife and I visit frequently. THAT really solves the memory problem.

Seamonster is an in joke between my daughter and me that started when she was just a little girl. No, I won't go into the details and embarass her because she's all grown up now and has a daughter of her own. She's very artistic and has drawn many pictures of Seamonster, including the one in my signature.

When I was in college I was very good at a number of different things:
illustrating (realistic & cartooning), model building, soccer, basketball, academics, singing… I'm boring, yes I know. Anyway that's for real, I do not in any way limit myself, once the interest is there I'm going all out.

Way back in the second grade, back in the early 1960's, my Grandmother gave me some old Tarzan books with really impressive dustjackets and I discovered I could buy books in school from Scolastic Press. My best friend started calling me a bookworm. It stuck. I still have the Tarzan's and have added a few thousand other titles.

I can't spell. Thats another trait I have embraced.

BigRedneckRob

This has stuck with me since high school. I'm a big redneck, and my name is Rob. Not railroad specific, but then, that means I am the squrare peg that can fit into the round hole. I am a tried and true Central of Georgia and Southern Railroad fan. My all time favorite locomotive is the EMD E and F units. Primarily because I rode on the last outing of the famous Nancy Hanks II in 1971. I was only six, but it is chiseled in my mind like words on a tombstone. Although at the time the Nancy Hanks was part of the Southern Railroad, at one time it wore the beautiful colors and proud badging of the Central of Georgia. Although not including either of these road names in my layout, that doesn't mean they might not make a surprise appearance right along side of a Shay or UP Challenger.

Tried all the names I liked/wanted which were taken (some by people who have posted once and never heard from again) and then discovered by misspelling I could get something.

Unfortunately everyone assumes the Texas part is more significant than the Zephyr part. While I think Texas has a great heritage for her citizens to be proud of, and I did spend some time at UT in Austin, I totally disown it. Unfortunately the C&S train that ran from Denver along the front range has Texas in its name..... Colorado Zephyr would be better. Hmmmm I wonder if I can change my user name?

Selector- first because I started off in old Centurion battle tanks, and the first drill in the turret when coming up to battle readiness is ensuring the armament selector lever on the gunner's controller is in the 'off' position.

Later, when I decided to change my work in the Canadian Forces, I undertook training in Personnel Selection, among other things do do with Industrial/Organizational Psych. At one point, several years back, I was responsible for Selection Policy for the CF.

"Selector" tied both career-paths together. [8D]

Ironrooster from a book title "Riding the Iron Rooster" by Paul Theroux . It's about railroads in China. It's all caps because I fatfingered the Caps Lock key instead of the shift key.
When I tried to change it I could not access my profile (my password was all caps also). Eventually, I realized what I had done, but then found you can't change user names ....
So it stays.[:)]

jc5729...because I'm one degree off of tangent. Really...If you know how railroad curvature is layed out in chords of 100 feet, by so many degrees offset from tangent, the actual radius in feet can be determined by dividing 5729 by the degree of curvature. i.e. it is the radius in feet of a 1 degree curve.
