Mmm... Let's see... Other than trains and model railroading, what else do I enjoy doing in my free* time ?
  • reading;

  • cooking;

  • movies and television (sci-fi, comedy, drama, diy);

  • sci-fi (star trek; battlestar galactica; star gate; andromeda; etc.);

  • spending time with friends (either in person, or chatting on the 'net);

  • puttering around the house and yard (recently laid new floating wood laminate floor);

  • windowbox gardening (trying not to kill my roses (and other plants)); and

  • (apologies to Aggro) adult things.

  • * The term "free" is used loosely. With work, errands and other "essentials", I don't have that much time that is "free". [:(]

    I've got 3 guitars myself. I've got a custom built Fender Stagemaster, an acoustic Fender 12 string and I came across the deal of the century a couple of years ago. I managed to get my grubby paws on THE prototype for the Godin Radiator! It has special pickups in it that they were not allowed by law to use on the regular version because the people from Rickenbacher said that the design was too similar to their own patented design. It's a cool guitar though!

    What years are your strat's? Are they Squire Strat's or regular?
    I bought mine new at Guitar Center a year and a half ago. It is a Mexican Fat Strat. Supposed to be the same parts as an American only assembled in Mexico from what I was told. I like it and that's all that matters to me.

    Amateur Radio... It's a great hobby, and you get to meet a lot of good people. I got my license in 1998. I enjoy the emergency communications part of it. I like helping people, for instance, we have been put on stand by, waiting on hurricane Dennis.

    I do woodworking, and can hardly remember when I went to seminary and tried to build a pike on no money.. I also drag raced back then. Now I am practicing getting old. I hope I am good at that.

    By Larry the Lounge Lizard do you maybe mean Leisure Suit Larry?

    As for the guitar, when her teacher saw the case, he opened it with great reverence. It's got the best action of all the guitars in the house (3 total with the wife's acoustic) and a narrow neck, so it was a lot easier for a 12-year-old to hold down the strings.

    I collect books. Sinclair Lewis, Bill Mauldin (Up Front & editorial cartoons), Studs Terkle, but mostly mystery writers first books. I like to meet the authors and get them signed. I have met, Walter Mosely and Lee Child among others.

    Gardening, flower and vegtable but the deer have about put me out of growing vegtables.

    My grandfather got me started collecting stamps when I was about 8. I still have them but haven't looked at them since I was twenty something.

    Please don't tell anyone but the wife and I collect vegtable shaped salt & pepper shakers.

    Forgot to say that I do Legos too!

    The more two-by-eights, the better. Don't like the building pieces that are so overspecialized; the kind that only make action figures or vehicles.

    You got a problem with that? [#ditto][#ditto]

    I also collect coins; right now I'm specializing in Buffalo nickles, Liberty Dimes, and modern one-ounce of all kinds (Canadian Maple Leaf, U.S. Eagles, Aussie "Kooks," etc.) [2c]

    I must be a very old-fashioned not-quite-fifty year-old:

    Bridge (both kitchen-sink and tournament);

    Poker too;

    Photography in general, esp. action and candids;

    Movies, more old on DVD or revival house than brand new;

    "Critters" (small animals);

    Read like a fiend and like to collect good-looking "spines";

    I used to commit free-lance journalism a lot but health and other issues have pretty well nixed that for the past two years. [?]

    Outside of model trains and railfanning, my family and I like to travel (Western Canada and Japan last year), I enjoy photography (favorite subjects beyond trains are close-ups of flowers and barns) and I play synthesizers in my church's worship band. Here's the keyboard rig:

    Well with the possibility of getting thrown out of this forum I will share. I have two other hobbies that take up much of my time. Ar-15's and Tomahawk/knife throwing. No I am not a psycho I promise. I spent 23 yrs in the military and grew up with guns. Spending a day at the range throwing lead downrange is good for the soul. As far as Hawk throwing..It is a blast and not that difficult to learn. Living around all these hurricanes lately I have an unlimited supply of wood slabs for targets.
