Weekend Photo Fun!
Posted by grandeman on Friday, July 1, 2005 11:22 PM
Happy Fouth of July weekend, everyone!!! As a long holiday weekend, this should turn out a good quantity (and quality, considering the talent ya'll have demonstrated in the past) of pics. To kick it off, here goes...

Industrial switcher hustles Platte Canyon coal at Public Service Company of Colorado's Cherokee Station generating plant in Denver.

The loco is an old Athearn we got at a train show for $5. I removed the "guts" (motor) and added the headlight, windows and weathering. It's for display only at the plant.

Ma and Paw cattle operation on the Platte Canyon spur.

Grande mixed freight approaches the CB&Q interchange south of Sedalia. The consist is a mix of old and new. The lead unit is a GP30 followed by a GP7 with a new GP35 bringing up the rear.

Here are some photos from my Father's Day trip to the Monticello Railway Museum.

Front view of the Wabash F unit

Side view of the F unit

The 0-4-0 at the entrance of the museum (looks kind of like the Varney Dockside, doesn't it?)

The museum was small, but I had fun there. The Wabash F unit pulls a passenger train that's there. I got to ride on the caboose and in an air conditioned passenger car.[:D]

They are resin stumps from http://railway-recollections.com

A friend is associated with Railway Recollections, and gave them to me to do something with for the manufacturer. They are hollow cast resin, really neat. They have some more smaller "rotten" stumps on the way so I can try something out with them too. Will post some photos when available.

The stumps are new, not on their website yet but they do have other interesting resin item such as conversions for HOn30 - engine bodies for N scale engines to operate on HOn30.

local RR pic's (Finger Lakes, Upstate NY)

old deck girder bridge over Barge Canal (Waterloo):

note the metal covers on the piles and green water

(the water level never gets higher than this, but is

empty in winter)

I want to model this, but someone will say the water

color is "wrong"

close-up of the notched timbers and lap joint

a VERY TALL and MASSIVE bridge abutment (Geneva); each

stone is about 3'x2'

These just show that you could model almost anything

and it probably exists somewhere.

It sure is. It is one of my best. It is super quiet and smooth. Nice slow speeds too. I have had it for about Five years and have had no problems with it. I don't know why some people are harsh on bachmann.
