I'll admit to getting a circle of track up and running first. Now I alterante between quickies and great looking stuff. Some take weeks, I spent two monthes on the Bertschal bridge. I have to change the track now and then but it is nice to run a train when I get too frustrated with my lack of artistic skill.
If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/ARTHILL/ Art

I overwhelm myself by doing a little bit of everything instead of all of one thing. It is like reading three or four books before finishing one straight through. Another nitch I fall into. And with mrr there are so many different aspects, and so many various things I can do, look out. But this is also really cool because I don't get bored, I just start something else for a while and then go back and fini***he other thing/s later. Unfortunately I get overwhelmed when the thing/s I left undone pile up.
I have more unbuilt kits then built ones. And think, "oh, I'll build that Accurail car this afternoon," then before getting started something else catches my eye and I spend an hour reading about freight cars. Go figure.
Yeah, for me it can be overwhelming.

Painting. Colors that come with models tend to look fake to me. So I change the colors--sometimes only slightly as in brick colors. Mostly I change it to get rid of the plastic look. Then I weather them.

My kits tend to have two speeds--I crank them out in an evening or I stop halfway through and they remain unfinished for months.

If ever there was a hobby to develop patience...

I've spen the last month building models for my layout. The first two were Suydam models and they took about a week apiece. The third is a cheapy Life-Like plastic one-stall engine house. I figured after the craftsman type kits, this plastic sucker would fly together. Wrong! I have now spent two weeks on this kit and I still haven't glued two pieces together. If I'm lucky, I'll fini***he painting next weekend.

How does anyone get anything done?
