HO Tenshodo switch machines

Are the twin-coil Tenshodo switch machines still available? How much should I expect to pay?

I don't believe so. I checked the Walthers web site and found that they still carry the NJ International Walthers Mfg # 525 at $14.99. That's what I have been using up until I started the switch to Tortoise slo-motion machines a couple of years back. I have one twin-coil machine left to replace.

I have used both the Tenshodo and NJ. Most of them I bought off of a 'used' table 15 years ago and they are beginning to wear out.

How timely, I have a request about these very beasts in the Atlas and trainboard forums. A buddy of mine says they are still being made and about the same price as the Peco power switch machines. But they aren't under the Tenshodo name, I will see what I can find out.

Way way back Tru-Scale, the track people, had a switch machine that was like Tenshodo but lower in profile. They might still be around.

How timely, indeed. Since I posted my original q. I came upon a guy that has about 21 or so in the original Tenshodo three-pack. If I can get them, what are they worth to you? I'll supply my email upon request.

I found the only hobby shop in Vancouver, BC that carries them and I am informed that NJ International now makes them. There are also new Tenshodo's around. In Canada, $20, so probably around $13 where you are. If you can get them cheaper, grab em. Also they show up at Train shows for around $5 here.

They are excellent machines. I have quite a few,thirty odd and have never experienced any problems with them. I suggest you use a capacitor discharge unit with them so you won't burn them out. Also lube all pivot points with a lite oil, not the electrical switch points though. I installed mine back in the seventies to give you an idea how long they've been in service. Never had to adjust them. Also, the truscale switch machine was made by Lindsay way back before truscale put there name on it. Again an excellent machine.
